2014 Chevrolet Reaper: customized Silverado
I seldom do custom tweak reviews as often the modifications are cosmetic and the manufacturer’s model has to be purchased stock and then upgraded elsewhere. But that situation is different with the new 2014 Chevrolet Reaper, which can be purchased in full tweak from 100 GM dealerships nationwide, those that carry the special Southern Comfort Automotive offerings. Also called the Lingenfelter Chevy Reaper, this uptweaked truck is based on the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado in LTZ mode. Reaper was codeveloped by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (Brighton, Michigan) and Southern Comfort Automotive (Trussville, Alabama) and combines the capabilities of the 2014 Silverado with rugged, muscular style and serious off-road performance aptitude. Engineered to deliver quality and performance both on and off the road, with some cosmetic adjustments, the Reaper is an innovative high-performing pickup truck with aggressive restyling and ramped up power.

Pre-Reaper power was from either a 4.3-liter V6 rated at 285 horsepower and 305 pounds per foot of torque, a 5.3-liter V-8 rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pounds per foot of torque or a 6.2-liter V-8 that thunders out 420 horsepower and 460 pounds per foot of torque, still 130 horses short of what Reaper delivers. I got a 6.3-second zeroto-60mph sprint in my text LTZ and you can expect 6flat from the Reaper, with a 14.5 quarter-mile.
Cabin overflows with space, tech and safety Before Reaper’s embroidery and enhancements, the LTZ cabin is spacious with 42.8 inches of front headroom and 40.5 inches in the cab. Legroom is a cavern-
ous 45.3 in front and 40.9 in the cab, while shoulder room is 64.8 and 65. The cabin and cab are both overflowing with luxury accommodations, high-tech amenities and comfort and entertainmentitems.Among the many interior refinements included in the LTZ are a remote vehicle starter, a driver information center, leather-wrapped steering wheel, steering wheel audio controls, leather-appointed seating with 10-way power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear-vision camera system, power rear sliding window with defogger, six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth for phone, and personal cell phone connectivity to the vehicle audio system. Safety items include dualstage frontal and side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger airbags, and head-curtain and seatmounted side-impact airbags. The front and rear outboard seating positions have a passenger sensing system. The truck comes with OnStar with automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, roadside assistance and turn-by-turn navigation. 2014 Silverado stickers start at $26,670 for a Regular Cab and a Standard Box and continue through five base price ranges including the Crew Cab and Standard Box at $35,095. The base LTZ Z71 bases at $42,995 including $1,095 in destination freight charges. The Chevrolet Reaper is available in three versions ranging from the mid-$50,000s for the base version to the mid$60,000s for the
