10 Years with Cristo Rey
We are so excited to celebrate our 10-year partnership anniversary with Cristo Rey Columbus High School! Since 2013, Dawson has been offering real–life work experience to underserved youth through their partnership. This year we are happy to welcome two students to work alongside and learn from our colleagues at both the Corporate and Reynoldsburg offices.
Located in the heart of downtown Columbus, the Catholic college-preparatory school prides itself on its professional work-study program, offering students the opportunity to gain work experience from regional employers. Their mission is to empower young men and women of all faiths who are in need of highquality, affordable education focusing on career and college readiness, as well as character development. All students receive real-life work experience beginning their Freshman year which helps to set them apart from other students as they prepare for next steps after graduation.
This year Dawson was recognized at the school’s annual Draft Day for 10 years of partnership. On Draft Day, all students at Cristo Rey are paired with a regional employer to complete a year-long work-study internship. Draft Day is truly like a professional sports draft – a cheering crowd filled with business partners, music, excited students and staff! When our students, Nneoma and Omar, were “drafted”, they were greeted by our colleagues with warm welcomes and Dawson swag!
Fun Fact:
Since 2014, Dawson has hosted 28 students, five who worked multiple years.
Check out the timeline of students and see if you can spot the five! ⊲

2022 Central Ohio Workforce Summit
Dawson hosted the 3rd annual Central Ohio Workforce Summit on Thursday, October 6. The hybrid event hosted 70 in-person guests and more than 90 virtual attendees and focused on topics addressing our local workforce environment. The event kicked-off with a welcome from Columbus Business First’s Editor and Publisher, Nick Fortine, followed by an engaging keynote from Brent Crawford, Principal and Founder of Crawford Hoying.
Connecting with Our Clients
In addition to the Central Ohio Workforce Summit, the fall has been full of opportunities for our team to build our brand!
ALA AT TOP GOLF
Thursday, September 22
Phil Freeman, Jeff Miller, and Brittany Deskins ACED the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) event! They networked with members and impressed attendees with their swings!
Brent’s message covered many interesting topics. He wasn’t afraid to share his opinions on Work From Home –lecturing the room on how it doesn’t work! The challenges of engagement, productivity, and growth are too great for Brent to offer Work From Home as a recruiting or retention strategy at Crawford Hoying. Brent also shared valuable insight about the lack of affordable housing for all the growth that’s happening in our region. There’s also a need to revitalize our downtown, which is key to being a prosperous city.
Becky Fromkes moderated the panel discussion featuring John Berry, President of Central Ohio Technical College; Darci Congrove, Managing Director at BGQ; Tom Poole, Talent Acquisition Director at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center; and Veronica Knuth, Chief People Officer at Quantum Health. Panelists shared insights on why their companies have earned best places to work recognition. A common theme they attributed to their high scores was their commitment to transparency within the organization. Panelists also shared how hiring requirements have changed. While everyone agreed that college degrees are important for obvious roles like CPAs and surgeons, many positions have been reevaluated and even reengineered to eliminate the college requirement.
The toughest topic that was covered by all of our speakers was the narrative building around a recession. Everyone is moving forward, but proceeding with caution. Jeff Miller closed the event with a final reminder, the only thing that never changes in staffing is that it is always changing!

Holiday Giving at Dawson
Dawson’s Annual Toy Drive
#Toydrivethebus
Since 2012, Dawson has been collecting toys from Colleagues and Clients with a goal to fill the Dawson bus full of toys every holiday season. Dawson has supported several local toy drives including ABC6 Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army Big10TV Toy Drive, and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
2022 Toy Drive Benefiting Buckeye Ranch
This holiday season Dawson will be partnering with The Buckeye Ranch for our annual Toy Drive the Bus. All donations will go to Ranch youth, young boys and girls receiving strengths-based, family-centered, and trauma-informed services.
About Buckeye Ranch
The Buckeye Ranch opened as a treatment center for 10 young men and has now transitioned into one of the country’s leading providers of emotional, behavioral, and mental health services for children and families. Each day, more than 2,350 youth are in Ranch care, receiving services designed to help them become successful within their families, schools, and communities. Today, The Buckeye Ranch operates from six different locations to better serve clients in Central and Southwestern Ohio. We pride ourselves on offering specialized programming designed to meet the needs of our clients and their families. Our staff of dedicated Ranch professionals is committed to helping each youth and family achieve their goals.

More Ways to Give
Dawson Adopt a Family from The Buckeye Ranch
For the first time ever, Dawson will be adopting a family this holiday season in addition to our annual Toy Drive the Bus. Continuing our partnership with The Buckeye Ranch, the family we are adopting currently receives special services. The Buckeye Ranch will be providing us with a “Wish List” of gifts the family would like to receive on Christmas day. We hope to check off all items on the list, but will need your help! We will begin accepting “Wish List” items beginning November 28.
Dawson's Adopt a Senior with Westminster Thurber
Back again this holiday season is the opportunity to adopt a senior! Dawson will be partnering with Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber, a living community located in the Victorian Village neighborhood. Though residents have the opportunity to take part in a wide array of activities on site, the opportunity to receive gifts from gracious volunteers really sparks the magic of the holiday season. Dawson will be taking on 15 seniors to adopt, each with individual wish lists.
