Whether we like it or not, Q4 2020 is upon us! I know I’m excited to see the calendar flip, but what I am really most excited about is to watch how Dawson responds to the demands of Q4 2020. We will see the most need from Clients we have had in a while, in the middle of one of the most difficult recruiting environments in decades — battling wage expectations, unprecedented employee turnover, and lack of qualified talent — all during a worldwide pandemic.

However, I know we got this. Each and every one of you have already stepped up, and I hope you know the impact that each of you individually has to our success.

You should all have an understanding of individual expectations that will help us attain our Q4 goals. We are all in this together, but we each make a difference, everyone’s contributions matter. What does Peak at Dawson really mean?

Every year a few of the largest retailers in the country count on us to staff their warehouses and distribution centers, so they can send holiday gifts and stock retail stores around the world. The people we hire pick and pack millions of soap and candles, drive forklifts full of clothing, and even load trucks full of undergarments.

Q4: GROWTH IS THE GOAL Our Q4 peak goal is to exceed the number of Q4 2019 starts by putting 2,600 Associates to work. Based on historical data, in order to start 2,600 Associates, we have to review at least 18,000 applications.

Something that really makes me who I am is my family. My paternal grandma had many kids, so my family on my dad’s side is very large. My mom’s side is smaller, but everyone is very loving and caring. We are Hispanic, and we are from Chiapas, Mexico. My big brother lives in Mexico, and I only get to see him a few times a year, so it means a lot to me when I get to visit him. My mom has not seen my brother in 16 years, and I wish that someday soon my mom can see him too.

I’m neither introverted nor extroverted, I like to just go with the flow in new situations and when meeting new people. One thing I know for sure is that I don’t have the same mindset as other people my age. I like to make future plans, whether is a trip, life choices, etc. Covid really messed up some of my plans, but I’m learning how to deal with change and adapt. I’m trying to stay positive and have some new goals and hopes for the future as well as my present.

Key Takeaways Q4 is off to a strong start and we are trending to hit our goal - as evidenced by the green line in the working associates graph - our increase is steep, but it’s possible, the opportunity is there!

While traffic continues to be down year-over-year, we are trending positive over last quarter. Virtual events have become a new applicant resource, contributing to our traffic increase.

54% of our Q3 starts first applied with Dawson prior to Q3 so using our existing database to continually touch base with your applicant pool pays off.

DIVERSITY

Developing a Diverse Talent Pool Through Community Partners We are committed to making Dawson a more diverse and inclusive workplace for our colleagues, clients, and job seekers. The road we are taking to get there is still in development, however, we are aware that this journey will be an ongoing one that reshapes our culture. As we work to solidify upcoming workshops and pieces of training, we want all of you to ask yourself: “What can I do right now to contribute to making Dawson more diverse and inclusive?”

For each of us, this will look different, but we need to start asking ourselves this question and define what proactive steps we can currently be taking.

Through our Community Workforce partnerships and programs, we have a unique opportunity to work alongside organizations that serve underrepresented communities. From a recruiting and hiring perspective, we are doing ourselves a disservice by not utilizing these resources.

We have compiled a list of our current Community Workforce partners that actively work toward creating equitable experiences for those they serve. This list is not only a resource to showcase what we’ve done but an opportunity to identify areas where we can do more.

COMMUNITY PARTNER: NCH & Goodwill Columbus

Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Goodwill Columbus, and other community partners come together to provide free workshops at The Residences at Career Gateway for its tenants and all South Side residents living in zip codes 43205, 43206, and 43207. A crucial part of neighborhood revitalization is the opportunity to obtain stable employment at a livable wage. The goal of these workshops is to reduce unemployment and poverty in our community by creating pathways to jobs at Nationwide Children’s and other area employers. Dawson has been a regular participant in their Career Bootcamps.

COMMUNITY PARTNER: Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD)

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) is the State of Ohio agency that empowers Ohioans with disabilities through employment, disability determinations, and independence.

We are a partner and support OOD in their initiatives to prepare individuals for success in the workforce by participating in OOD Career Development and Training Events. These events are beneficial as they introduce us to qualified candidates who we can help become valued members of an organization.

COMMUNITY PARTNER: Per Scholas

Per Scholas is a nonprofit that provides tuition-free technology training to unemployed or underemployed adults for careers as IT professionals. Per Scholas has A+ and Network+ trained professionals currently in the market for IT career placement and who need assistance in finding employment.

Dawson is a partner to Per Scholas, providing professional developmentopportunities to students during the 15-week technology training program.

Dawson attends Monthly Per Scholas Hiring Events, participating in mock interview scenarios.
