Looking back and looking forward.

It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through peak season and ready to wrap up 2019.

While the needs from our partnership peak Clients like L Brands and lululemon are down from previous years, I am proud of the work our Warehouse and Distribution team did to quickly secure more orders and fill positions at Abercrombie & Fitch and Eddie Bauer. With the continued strength of our MSP division and exciting changes to the leadership of our office and professional recruiting divisions, I am confident we will finish Q4 – and the year – with solid numbers.

Over the next month or so, the Leadership Team will begin planning for 2020: setting sales goals, determining the strategic direction of the company, along with the second Dawson Annual Meeting and other employee-focused initiatives.

We are excited to hear from our firstever Colleague focus groups and will be reaching out to all of you in the months to come for your open and honest feedback on what we’re doing well and what we can do better for you as an employee.

WORKFORCE SUMMIT RECAP

Central Ohio Workforce Summit provides unique perspectives on current trends in employment On Friday, Sept. 20, nearly 100 HR professionals attended the first annual Central Ohio Workforce Summit at Dawson.

The event, which was co-sponsored by the Columbus Chamber of Commerce and Central Ohio Workforce Development Board, was designed by Dawson to educate employers and help them embrace the changes of working with a multi-generational workforce.

The event featured two panel discussions where Dawson Clients and Community Workforce partners like OhioHealth, Hilliard City Schools, and South-Western City Schools; and major Central Ohio employers including Huntington, Nationwide, and AEP were represented.

Getting parents out of the “high school to college to career” mentality and understanding that there are many different options and combinations for a career path and education is a challenge.

David Harrison, president of Dawson Community Workforce partner Columbus State Community College presented a keynote address on the changing relationship between education, employers, and the modern-day workforce.

The way that education and employment work together is quickly changing – more people are working while finishing degrees and only attending class part-time.

Employers need to understand the needs of their employees and the different approaches that are effective with members of younger and older generations.

On-the-job learning programs and career pathway planning with Columbus State has become critical to success for big companies like JP Morgan Chase, AEP, and Honda.

We All Scream for Ice Cream!

Each summer, the Dawson Bus hits the road to visit Clients and share sweet treats with the working associates there. The Dawson marketing team uses Ice Cream Socials as a way to show appreciation to clients who trust us with their workforce solution needs, and the working associates who show up to work there every day. The Ice Cream Social series is a highly anticipated event by both Clients and working associates, and this year was no different.

A total of 14 Clients participated in the 2019 Ice Cream Social series, including Honda, Ryder, BMW, Epiq, and FST Logistics. Over 3,000 pieces of ice cream were served to working associates throughout the month of August. While every stop during Ice Cream Social season was memorable, there were a few that largely stood out. During the Ice Cream Social series, the office recruiters had recently filled a large order at Epiq, and they scheduled an Ice Cream Social as Dawson’s first interaction with the working associates there. Both Dawson and the Epiq staff were thrilled to be able to enjoy the social.

The Dawson marketing team also visited OhioHealth’s new David P. Blom Administrative Building where nearly 400 associates stopped by the Dawson Bus to enjoy some ice cream.

In addition to OhioHealth, the second largest social was BMW Financial Services, where the Dawson bus was greeted by a line of nearly 300 associates. Overall, the 2019 Ice Cream Social Season was just as sweet as the years prior! dawsoncareers.com | 5

Dawson is Expanding!

Dawson continues to invest in the growth of its staffing business with the purchase of a warehouse and office space at 3051 Delta Marine Drive in Reynoldsburg. The purchase was closed in late September.

Kristen Dutton represents Dawson MSP at exclusive health care staffing event Dawson MSP Director Kristen Dutton was selected

by LocumTenens.com to participate in their Customer Advisory Board last month in Sea Island, Georgia. The company is a supplier of temporary clinical staff for health care staffing agencies and hospital systems across the country.

The three-day seminar was designed for staffing professionals and physicians to learn best practices and share ideas to improve partnerships between locum tenens, supplier agencies, and health care systems and providers. Of the 22 selected to attend, Dutton was the

only representative of any Managed Services Provider, offering her the opportunity to network with potential business prospects for Dawson MSP. “The most helpful thing for me was being able to spend days with traveling physicians to understand their experiences and how we can be doing things better at our Client sites,” said Dutton. She also learned about trends in health care, including how Amazon plans to enter the health care market place and what that might mean for temporary medical staffing.

Locum tenens is a Latin phrase that means “to hold the place of, to substitute for.” Since the early 1970s, the term has been used in health care to refer to temporary clinical staff, including doctors, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Anesthetists.

You read that right, Dawson manages staffing of temporary doctors just like its staffing divisions place contractors at non-health care Clients.

Once renovation is complete, the Reynoldsburg hiring office will relocate to this permanent location.

The warehouse portion of the building will be transformed into a mock stockroom floor where Dawson can facilitate forklift training and other educational programs for its job seekers.

“Our Clients like L Brands and lululemon are constantly in need of certified forklift drivers, and there is a shortage in the market,” said Chris DeCapua, co-owner of Dawson.

“Offering this certification at no cost to our job seekers is a way for us to earn loyalty from them and really differentiate Dawson against other staffing firms.”

Third-party forklift certification classes can cost job seekers hundreds of dollars out of their own pockets. These classes will be branded as another Community Workforce Program from Dawson, adding to the list of ways Dawson is innovating to adapt to current market conditions.

The four got to network with Dan Sharpe, Vice President of the Columbus Foundation, and gained several insights about Dawson’s role in the community – both as a business and volunteer partner.

Their biggest takeaways included the effects that gentrification is having on Columbus neighborhoods like the Short North, Franklinton, and Merion Village, which includes displacing large populations of homeless or underprivileged residents.

In addition, Sharpe shared with them the importance of finding empathy for the job seekers Dawson works with, noting that many deal with very difficult life circumstances that are a product of their environment and beyond their control. *If there are community or networking events where you would be interested in representing Dawson, please tell your manager how Dawson can support your participation.
