Changes, some taking shape over years or centuries, and others arriving in the near future, are featured in Jane’s Walks in Scarborough this weekend. The timeline of “A Stroll Along the Shore: from First Peoples to the Arts and Crafts Suburb,” stretches back to aboriginal communities and the first French and British settlements along the area’s Lake Ontario waterfront. Jane Fairburn, author of Along the Shore: Rediscovering Toronto’s Waterfront Heritage, will join walk leaders Marie Belanger and Karin Eaton (Mural Routes executive director) at 2 p.m. Saturday from beside a mural on the corner of Midland and Kingston roads, near the Cliffside Plaza. As always, Jane’s Walks, named for renowned urbanist and Toronto resident Jane Jacobs, are free and open to >>>NUMBER, page 16

Scarborough Scouts are taking part in two community projects as part of a week-long initiative
to promote good deeds. Scouts Canada’s fifth annual Good Turn Week runs from April 26 to May 4. “It’s encouraging people across the country to do random
acts of kindness,” Scouts youth spokesperson Diana McBey said. This week, about 150 Scouts in Agincourt are collecting food for a local food bank with the
goal of filling two trailers to maximum capacity. “They’ve collected food and they handed out flyers for food donations, asking people in the community to donate,” McBey said.
