There’s fresh hope the City of Toronto is close to finishing negotiations with a private company to restore and reopen the historic Guild Inn. The city chose Dynamic Hospitality and Entertainment Group in April 2014 to operate the inn, closed and decaying since 2001, as a restaurant and banquet hall. Negotiations over the deal, now said to be down to a few issues, have dragged on, delaying a restoration and expansion of the inn building city officials hoped would begin this year.

Dynamic’s president, however, said he thinks the outstanding issues with the city may be resolved within two weeks. “Progress has been made, but it’s a very, very sensitive site,” Sam D’Uva said in an interview last week. “We’re very close. Highland Creek Heritage Festival celebrates 30th year It’s the 30th year of celebrating the heritage of Highland Creek with a full-day festival. Activities, including the popular parade, are set for Saturday at the Highland Creek Heritage Festival. The parade starts at 11 a.m.,

but the fun starts at 9 a.m. and continues to 5 p.m. Activities include face painting, a mutt show, petting zoo, street entertainment along with antique cars on display. The Scarborough Historical Society will be there with a

display and to answer questions about the history of the Highland Creek area. The businesses in Highland Creek will be promoting their wares, and crafters will be out selling their items. Local merchants in Highland

Creek and the community associations of the Highland Creek, Centennial and West Rouge neighbourhoods provide support to the festival.
