The Scarborough Hospital, the Rouge Valley Health System and the region’s health authority will try to pick up the pieces next week from a hospital merger that failed, according to one of the prospective partners, because of insufficient provincial support. In a meeting on Wednesday, April 23, the Central East Local Health Integration Network is expected to approve the study of new “integration” measures between the hospitals

which would fall short of a full merger. The hospitals also hope to hear more about a $3-million provincial planning grant which, although not sufficient to make a business case for new hospital facilities in Scarborough and an expanded RVHS campus in Ajax, might contribute towards that goal. Blame is still being assigned over the merger’s last minute collapse, which occurred on March 15 when the TSH board voted against approval without the promise of $18 million in >>>SCARBOROUGH, page 14
