Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

“You cannot warm

the hearts of people with God’s love if they have an empty stomach and cold feet.

– William Booth (1829 - 1912) Founder of The Salvation Army

Mir anda As a teen mother, Miranda stayed in The Salvation Army overnight shelter to keep her family healthy and fed.

Impact in King County in 2018 Day in and day out, The Salvation Army of King County is working hard to help neighbors become, and stay, housed. We focus on each person’s and family’s individualized barriers to address the root of their struggles. It is our mission to stand by their side at each phase in their journey.

Lifetime Change Makers The Salvation Army salutes our most generous donors – the Lifetime Change Makers. These local donors have each contributed a minimum of $100,000 throughout their history of generosity. Their gifts enable The Salvation Army to have an extraordinary impact on the community.

Michael & Kimberley “Kimberley and I have been supporting the Army for a number of years. We are strong believers in their Kingdom work both locally and across the world. Our view is that the resources we have are from God, and it is our joy to seek out ways that those gifts can go toward work that will further His purposes in the world. We recently came across a quote from William Penn, the Quaker founder of the English North American colony of Pennsylvania, that we found to be congruent with our values when it comes to supporting worthy causes like The Salvation Army: I expect to pass through life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.” – Michael & Kimberley Mumford

R osie

“My hope is that my daughters learn to understand the importance of being strong, self-sufficient women.”

R osie is Hopeful Rosie’s marriage seemed happy in the beginning. But after their daughters were born, the financial stress turned their home into a hostile environment. Rosie soon became the receiving end of her husband’s verbal and physical abuse. For years, she stayed in the marriage, feeling that she had no other options. After learning about

The Salvation Army’s services for victims of domestic violence, she finally called and asked for help. Soon, she met with a caseworker and developed a plan to save her and her daughters from the abuse and transition to safe housing. Today, Rosie works in the cafeteria of the local high school to better match her daughters’ schedules.

William Booth Society The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 when William Booth decided to take his ministry into the streets of London where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry, and the destitute. Today, his mission continues throughout the world. In King County, we are honored by the generous support of select donors who give substantial gifts annually – to support The Salvation Army and our life-changing work in the community. Barry & Jill “My wife Jill and I have been very proud to support the compassionate and professional work of The Salvation Army over the past twenty plus years. I have visited many programs across the country and seen at first hand the diligence that The Salvation Army brings to help America’s most vulnerable and suffering people. I also have noted with gratitude the integrity and high standards of care and accountability that characterize Salvation Army leadership. The dollar you give to their vital work goes directly to alleviate the human misery of homelessness, addiction, disasters, and those neglected in body and spirit. We are very proud to support the work of The Salvation Army.” – General Barry & Jill McCaffrey

brent

“My hope is to graduate from college. It would make my parents proud.

brent is

Hopeful Brent’s friend introduced him to alcohol when he was only ten. By the end of high school, his involvement with alcohol grew into hard drug use. “I’m not sure where those next years went,” he says. “All I remember is always looking for the next hit.” Brent’s addiction led to lost jobs, damaged relationships, and homelessness. For two years he wandered around Seattle, usually sleeping in a tent near the stadiums in SODO. Finally, at the age of 30, he found the strength to tackle his addiction. Brent enrolled in The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center and completed the program in 2017. He is now drug-free, residing in a sober living environment, and working as a customer service representative. Next year, he plans to enroll in community college.

Our Adult Rehabilitation Center offers neighbors like Brent a six-month, residential program at no cost to participants. Last year, more than 700 men and women received treatment, including physical, emotional, and spiritual therapy.

“My hope is to reconnect with my children and meet my grandkids.

Randy is Hopeful Randy served in the Vietnam War in 1969. He returned home to Western Washington and began a career with a local grocery store chain. Five decades later, he still struggles emotionally with PTSD, and physically from standing during his job. He lost his marriage many years ago, and consequently, lost contact with his children. Now retired, Randy has struggled to make ends

meet and found himself homeless. Thankfully, King County Veterans Administration referred him to The Salvation Army William Booth Center. While living at the Booth Center, Randy worked with a caseworker to explore options for vets, including affordable housing and medical resources. Last year, he moved into his own apartment.
