LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear RCDS Community,
As we reflect on the 2023-24 school year, we are, as always, deeply grateful for the steadfast support of our incredible community. Everything that our students accomplished and experienced this year—whether in the classroom, the auditorium, the fields and gym, off campus, or elsewhere—was only made possible by the collective generosity and strength of our community.
For example, your support enabled us to complete significant upgrades and improvements to our campus during the Summer of 2024, including the creation of a cutting-edge Innovation Lab, an updated Library, and a revitalized Woodshop. These new spaces have quickly become dynamic centers of activity and learning. Our students and faculty have embraced these enhancements wholeheartedly, diving into new opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and exploration. The Innovation Lab has inspired hands-on experimentation, the Library has become a haven for study, research, and reading, and the Woodshop has reignited a love for craftsmanship.
We are also pleased to present the 2023-2024 Annual Philanthropy Report, a reflection of the profound impact of your philanthropy. With 529 donors contributing a total of $843,832, we surpassed our goals for the fiscal year. Again, your support has allowed us to provide exceptional programs and experiences for all our students.
To our faculty, staff, parents, grandparents, past parents, alumni, trustees, former trustees, and friends – thank you. Your dedication to The Rumson Country Day School is evident every day, and your loyalty to RCDS allows our students to thrive and our School to strive for continued excellence.
Again, thank you.

Dr. Carson T. Smith Head of School

RCDS FINANCIALS THE IMPACT

Dear RCDS Community,
As we close out the fiscal year, I want to express heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated donors. This year, the Board of Trustees made a strategic decision to invest in the construction of several new 21st-century learning spaces through an exciting $2.5 million dollar self-funded initiative. The projects included a new Innovation Lab, Library, Woodshop, Nurses Office, Conference Room and School Store. While the project itself was self-funded, your continued generosity is essential to maintaining and optimizing these spaces to ensure they operate successfully and meet the needs of our community. Thank you! I also extend my sincere thanks to our Board of Trustees and Finance Committee for their invaluable guidance and expertise, which have been crucial in maintaining a strong financial foundation and ensuring the long-term fiscal health of RCDS. On behalf of our faculty, staff, and trustees, thank you for your continued partnership and unwavering support.
Michael J. Mannino Director of Finance and Operations

$730,320 INVESTMENT INCOME & AUXILIARY SERVICES
$843,832 ANNUAL GIVING* $11,666,620 TUITION

OF ANNUAL GIVING
Like all independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the full cost of a Rumson Country Day School education. Voluntary giving from the entire Gator community ensures our school is fully funded, allowing you to make a 100% charitable tax deduction for your investment in your child’s education.
Annual Giving impacts every part of the student experience at RCDS. Small classes, phenomenal faculty, and Signature Traditions like Family-Style Dining are all made possible by voluntary gifts that supplement tuition and fees. Like many independent schools, Annual Giving covers a percentage of annual operating expenses, which helps keep tuition lower than it might otherwise be. Your participation signifies your belief in RCDS’s commitment to providing a formative education that sets students up for a lifetime of success. We are grateful for every contribution.
Participating in Annual Giving is the most meaningful way to support the school and the people who make a difference in our students’ lives each day.

LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES PRESIDENT
Dear RCDS Community,

On behalf of The Rumson Country Day School’s Board of Trustees, I want to thank you for your incredible generosity during the ’23-’24 fiscal year. Your belief in the power of education and your commitment to RCDS have a tangible impact on our ability to provide a truly exceptional experience for every student. Thanks to your support, our school continues to thrive as a place where curiosity, creativity, and community come to life every day.
As both the President of the Board of Trustees and a proud RCDS parent, I’ve experienced firsthand the magic that happens here. From the dedication of our teachers to the enthusiasm of our students and the deep connections within our parent community, RCDS is more than a school—it’s a family. It’s a place where students are inspired to grow into their best selves, and that’s something we can all be proud of.
Your contributions make all of this possible. They allow us to maintain high standards in our academic programs, improve our facilities, and create opportunities that leave a lasting mark on our students’ lives. Quite simply, RCDS would not be the same without the support of individuals like you.
Thank you for believing in what we do and for playing a vital role in ensuring RCDS continues to flourish. Together, we’re building something extraordinary—not just for today’s students, but for the generations that will follow.
With gratitude, Kristen Masserio President, Board of Trustees P ’21, ’24, ’27

Gifts in Honor of: ANNE KERR

In June 2024, School Nurse Anne Kerr retired after 23 years of service to the RCDS community. We invited our community to join us in celebrating her retirement and honoring her legacy by making a gift in her honor. Thanks to our generous donors and the outpouring of support to celebrate Nurse Kerr, we raised over $16,000.

Mere words cannot express all that Anne Kerr has meant to the members of our community during her tenure. I do know, however, that what we have all learned from her, we will carry with us and impart to others, who will, in turn, do the same. For that reason, Anne’s legacy, both at Rumson Country Day and beyond, will endure forever.”
—Head of School, Dr. Carson T. Smith
FROM THE PARENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT
Thank you to all our parents who volunteer their time, talents, and efforts to support the RCDS Parent Council. To each parent who stepped up to be a class parent, chair one of our community-enriching events, or joined as a committee member, I am forever grateful. This year we saw so many new volunteers join us as we continue to build our school into the cohesive community we love. Whether you have a few hours or days to give, we are so happy for you to lend a hand. Nothing brings a smile more to our kids’ faces than when they spy their parent working in the gym at Rummage or setting up for Gator Bash under the tent.
The 2023-2024 school year brought us so much joy as we continued all our favorite events from Gator Cup to Welcome Back cocktails in the fall to Gator Bash in the spring. Besides working with so many dedicated parents, it was an amazing experience to work closer with our faculty and staff this year. I am overwhelmed by the thoughtfulness and care our faculty bring to our school every day. Thank you for loving and supporting our kids as you are what makes this school special.

We
are making sure that our practice is aligned with how children learn best. It’s important for families to know that teachers are adaptable and committed to keeping up with research about best practices.”
—Heather Parker, Director of Curriculum

Most of learning should be through manipulatives of fun. If students are not enjoying the process of learning, then they’re not going to make the connections that we want them to make. Our goal is to create this integrated curriculum that excites students and intentionally threads across different areas of study allowing them to make connections across subjects.”

LEGACY SOCIETY
The Legacy Society honors those supporters who have designated a portion of their assets in their will or through their estate planning to benefit The Rumson Country Day School. Individuals who include the School in their estate plans become members of The Rumson Country Day School Legacy Society. All names are recognized in our annual Philanthropy Report.
You can have a lasting impact on the people and organization that mean so much to you! One of the easiest gifts you can make is to name The Rumson Country Day School as a beneficiary of one of your assets, such as your retirement plan or life insurance policy.
Below is an example of the language you may use in your will.
I give, devise, and bequeath to The Rumson Country Day School, a not-for-profit organization located in Rumson, NJ, $ or percent (%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate as an unrestricted gift to be used at the discretion of the Board of Directors of The Rumson Country Day School to help the School continue its long standing tradition of educational programming designed to nurture the entire child.

GIFTS TO THE ENDOWMENT
The Rumson Country Day School’s Endowment Funds can be compared to an individual’s savings account and investments. A strong endowment endeavors to provide a permanent source of annual revenue providing support for teachers, students, and programs. Continuing to grow our endowment affords RCDS the opportunity to both plan and fulfill strategic, long-term decisions on a solid financial foundation. Above all, perhaps, endowment means long-term security, protecting the School’s quality if enrollments temporarily decline or the economy hits a rough spot.
