.
Last July, I had the honor of testifying before the Joint Congressional Small Business and Veterans Affairs Committees, where I addressed the unique challenges faced by military and veteran spouses in business. I was proud to be introduced by Congressman Van Orden (SEAL), a longtime friend who served alongside my late husband
While The Rosie Network continues to serve transitioning service members and veterans, I used this opportunity to highlight the growing movement of military spouses turning to selfemployment. Nearly half of those surveyed are either entrepreneurs or seriously considering entrepreneurship and we’re here to champion every step of that journey
We are proud to celebrate 25 outstanding military entrepreneurs trailblazers who faced uncertainty head-on and built businesses that make a difference. Their stories are a testament to what determination, heart, and a deep sense of service can accomplish.
This May, in honor of Military Appreciation Month, we invite you to join us in a month of celebration, learning, and support. We are proud to be featured as Amazon FireTV’s nonprofit beneficiary, thanks to our partners at Navy Federal Credit Union. Don’t miss our entrepreneurship webinars with Blue Star Families’ Neighborhood initiative, our special promotion with Kendra Scott jewelry, and our Retirement Series powered by Robinhood Financial, featuring Scott Tucker, CEO of USVET WEALTH and Service2CEO graduate
In Groveland, Florida, retired Army veteran Evangelina Blue-Williams is stirring up more than just savory BBQ sauces she’s serving purpose, passion, and perseverance through her brand, Mystic Blue.
Evangelina’s love for cooking began in her childhood kitchen, inspired by her father’s culinary talents. That spark followed her through military service, where she enrolled in culinary school while in uniform. What began as a heartfelt hobby soon became the foundation for a flavorful business.
Initially launched as a catering company, Mystic Blue quickly pivoted after one standout BBQ sauce won over local taste buds. That single sauce evolved into a trio each one telling a story of strength, healing, and heart
Behind the bold flavors lies a journey marked by resilience. Evangelina faced steep learning curves in entrepreneurship, but with help from organizations like The Rosie Network and Wounded Warrior Project, she embraced the grind. “I learned through trial, error, and never giving up,” she says.
A major turning point came after the passing of her father. Though grief made it hard to return to the kitchen, it also inspired her third sauce crafted in his honor and filled with the memories that first sparked her culinary passion.
Success, for Evangelina, is measured not just in sales but in smiles. “When people see Mystic Blue, I want them to think of joy,” she says. “It’s the best feeling when someone calls me ‘the lady with the good BBQ sauce.’”
Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “Learn everything you can and then take action. Stay focused, and don’t quit.”
With Mystic Blue, Evangelina isn’t just building a brand She’s honoring her roots, sharing her story, and proving that it’s never too late to turn passion into purpose
BUILDING BRIDGES FOR VETERANS:
Rebecca Aguilera-Gardiner’s Mission to Empower
Through Business
Today, Rebecca is the dynamic force behind the Veterans In Business (VIB) Network, a national nonprofit headquartered in San Diego that supports and connects veteran-owned businesses with corporate and government contracting opportunities. What started as a spark of inspiration has now grown into a powerful movement with over 3,300 members across all 50 states, two major annual conferences, and an unwavering commitment to education, relationship-building, and economic growth.
Rebecca’s entrepreneurial journey was shaped early on by her love for sales and marketing in her family’s business. Over the years, she discovered the strategic advantages of veteran certifications and began helping others leverage those tools. As demand for guidance grew, so did her vision. Thus, the VIB Network was born.
Getting the word out was her biggest hurdle. “We had to earn trust,” she says. That trust came through consistent outreach, listening to the community, and evolving to meet real needs. A pivotal moment came during the height of the pandemic, when many organizations pulled back. Instead, Rebecca leaned in hosting a virtual conference that connected hundreds of veteranowned businesses to life-changing opportunities. “Some landed contracts right then and there. That was the moment I knew this is why we do what we do.”
For Rebecca Aguilera-Gardiner, service and entrepreneurship are part of her DNA. Raised in her family’s printing business and inspired by her Korean War veteran father and servicedisabled Air Force veteran brother, she grew up watching the power of resilience, hard work, and community leadership in action.
“I saw a gap—veteran entrepreneurs needed stronger ties with the business world,” she recalls. “I wanted to build a bridge.”
Her definition of success? “When a veteran tells me they got a contract because of our event that’s it. That’s the win.”
Rebecca credits her parents and a community of mentors for shaping her approach, and she’s proud of building something bigger than herself. “This work is about legacy,” she says. “I want the VIB Network to be a lasting, trusted resource that honors veterans’ service and helps them thrive as entrepreneurs ”
With heart, grit, and vision, Rebecca AguileraGardiner is proving that empowering veterans in business is more than a mission it’s a movement.
JEREMY MONTGOMERY: Empowering Veteran Transitions with
For Jeremy Montgomery, helping veterans and military spouses find meaningful careers isn’t just business—it’s personal. As the founder of Lean Synergy Staffing, he’s reshaping how transitioning service members connect with civilian opportunities, turning complex hiring gaps into streamlined success stories.
Jeremy’s journey into entrepreneurship was sparked by a clear problem: highly skilled veterans struggling to break into the workforce while companies missed out on top-tier talent due to inefficient hiring processes. Through ventures like MilCruit, Lean Synergy Staffing, and Transition Command, he’s built a powerful ecosystem that empowers both job seekers and employers.
Purpose
Rooted in military discipline and leadership, Jeremy’s approach focuses on transformation and proactive solutions. His early success with Fusion Cell launched just before the COVID-19 pandemic proved that mission-driven strategies can thrive even in turbulent times, helping hundreds of veterans find work during a historic employment crisis.

But success didn’t come easy. “The biggest challenge was navigating fear and uncertainty,” Chris says. With support from mentors, family, and faith, he pushed through, building BELLA*LIFE into a space where growth both personal and collective thrives.

Daphne Minks didn’t take a traditional path to entrepreneurship. Her journey was shaped by survival, resilience, and a fierce will to turn pain into purpose. After navigating years of adversity, she founded Twisted Reels Productions a bold, immersive storytelling company born from her deepest truths.
Her company is more than just a creative outlet it’s a reclamation. Daphne channeled sleepless nights and hard-earned wisdom into a mission: to create powerful experiences that awaken, challenge, and inspire. From immersive series to music-driven projects, her work centers on voices that are often ignored or misunderstood.
DAPHNE MINKS: FROM SHADOWS TO SPOTLIGHT
Twisted Reels Productions
Mentorship came to Daphne in unconventional forms—brief conversations, passing strangers, and pivotal moments of belief from organizations like The Rosie Network. Her most constant influence? Creative partner Astra, who continues to push her toward growth and authenticity.
Starting with no safety net, Daphne built Twisted Reels from the ground up. Her flagship project, EverPleasure: The Experience, merges music and storytelling into a multi-sensory world and is already making waves. Recognition from The Rosie Network as a Noteworthy Entrepreneur affirmed her vision, but a personal milestone is just around the corner: giving the 2025 commencement speech at her alma mater, where she never had the chance to walk the stage herself.
For Daphne, success isn’t about profit it’s about impact. If her work helps just one person feel seen or find their voice, it’s all worth it. Her biggest lesson? “No one is coming to save you, but you’re never truly alone.” Authenticity and completion, she says, build the confidence needed to keep going.
Her advice for aspiring creatives: start with your why, protect your boundaries, and never wait for permission. “If I could go back, I’d trust myself sooner,” she reflects. “Start bold.”
Daphne envisions Twisted Reels not just as a company, but a movement breaking emotional and creative boundaries while holding the door open for future storytellers. Her legacy is one of transformation and tenacity. If she can do it, so can you.
SWEET BLOOMS CONFECTIONERY:
A Taste of Joy, One Cookie at a Time
Melissa Purnell never imagined her path would lead to sprinkles, frosting, and farmers markets. Yet today, she’s the heart behind Sweet Blooms Confectionery, a Rhode Island-based bakery that’s bringing big smiles with every sweet bite.
Melissa’s journey began long before she ever piped her first cupcake. A natural leader with a degree in Government and Political Affairs, she built a career in the medical device industry and even launched an activewear business. But it was a humble batch of cupcakes at a neighborhood gathering that sparked something bigger a new calling “The joy on people’s faces lit something in me,” she recalls That joy became the foundation for Sweet Blooms
Her love for baking runs generations deep. With a great-grandfather who was a baker and an aunt in the food industry, flour and sugar were always part of her story. After honing her skills in California, Melissa officially launched her business when her family settled in Rhode Island and her kids started school full-time.
Of course, building a business from scratch hasn’t been without its hurdles. From the challenge of finding a commercial kitchen to learning the ins and outs of taxes and bookkeeping, Melissa has faced it all head-on. She’s leaned on mentors especially fellow military spouses and embraced every learning curve with resilience and grace.
Her proudest moments? Watching customers at the local farmers market come back week after week, craving her signature cookies. “When someone tells me my treat made their day, that’s when I know I’m doing something right.
After 26 years in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard, Donnell Johns knew what it meant to serve a mission greater than himself But once the uniform came off, he noticed a glaring need military-connected entrepreneurs were often overlooked, under-supported, and unseen. That’s when the seed for Veterans Growing America (VGA) was planted.
Donnell credits his success to military-honed leadership, a tight-knit support system especially his wife and business partner Tanda and the guidance of mentorship programs like The Rosie Network and Warrior Rising But perhaps most of all, it’s been about showing up consistently and building trust in the vision.
One of VGA’s biggest wins? A feature on PBS’s “Opportunity Knock”, sharing their story with over 16 million viewers. Another major milestone: opening a second retail space at Clarksburg Premium Outlets. Yet for Donnell, the real reward is watching vendors evolve from parttime dreamers to full-time entrepreneurs.
His advice for aspiring business owners? Start with your “why.” Don’t wait for perfect conditions just start, stay consistent, and lean into community.
With big plans on the horizon, Donnell sees VGA becoming a national model for military entrepreneurship. “We’re just getting started,” he says
And with the strength of the community behind him, there’s no limit to what’s next
Launched in 2019 with a single pop-up shop in Manassas, Virginia, VGA has grown into a national movement. Its mission is clear: empower veterans, military spouses, and dependents by creating community, visibility, and opportunity. Through curated events, business development programs, and retail spaces, VGA helps military entrepreneurs turn purpose into profit.
“Success is impact,” he says. “It’s seeing someone regain confidence, achieve financial independence, and build a legacy beyond the uniform.”
SUSTAINABILITY IN SMALL BUSINESS: A Smart Path to Growth
Why It Pays to Go Green
Environmental efforts like switching to LED lighting, upgrading HVAC systems, or recycling help cut operating costs over time. Plus, consumers are increasingly drawn to businesses that align with their values. According to Nielsen, 73% of global consumers are willing to change habits to reduce their environmental impact.
Community Matters
Sustainability also includes social responsibility. Supporting local suppliers, paying fair wages, and giving back to the community can boost employee morale and customer loyalty. Many small businesses also champion local causes, deepening their roots in the community and strengthening their brand.
In today’s world, sustainability is more than a trend it’s a vital part of long-term business success For small businesses, embracing sustainable practices not only supports the planet but also boosts profits, strengthens customer relationships, and builds lasting community ties.
What Does Sustainability Mean for Small Business
Sustainability is about meeting today’s needs without compromising future generations. For small businesses, this can look like reducing waste, conserving energy, sourcing responsibly, and committing to ethical labor practices.
Getting Started
SOLIME ROYAL HAIR: Because Every Strand Deserves Royal Treatment
In the heart of San Diego, Navy veteran Nina Pinidi is redefining haircare for the military community with her business, Solime Royal Hair. After serving 17 years on active duty, Nina knows the struggle of trying to find quality haircare products especially for textured hair and sensitive scalps while stationed on base or deployed overseas. That frustration sparked a mission: to ensure military families have access to the haircare they deserve.
Founded in 2022, Solime Royal Hair, LLC is more than a brand it’s a movement toward inclusion and self-care. Nina curates high-quality, chemical-free products sourced from small businesses that specialize in natural hair textures. Her pop-up shops, featured at Navy Exchange locations and major retailers like Macy’s, give customers hands-on access to products that were once nearly impossible to find on base.
The journey from sailor to CEO wasn’t smooth sailing. Nina faced the usual startup roadblocks limited funding, unclear next steps but she turned to seasoned mentors and veteran-focused resources for guidance. Organizations like American Corporate Partners, SBDC, VBOC, and APEX provided expert support and empowered her to build with confidence. “It takes a village,” she says, giving special thanks to her mentor Becca Brown and her ever-growing support network.
Solime Royal Hair’s mission is clear: to be the go-to destination on military installations for textured haircare. Nina is determined to make every service member and military family feel seen, represented, and supported. For her, success is not just sales it’s in the repeat customers, the requests for new products, and the stories of confidence and comfort her clients share.
Her biggest lesson? Perseverance is a skill. Nina encourages fellow entrepreneurs to know their audience, use available resources, and avoid wasting time chasing perfection. “If I could do it over again,” she says, “I would’ve started sooner.”
With plans to expand to more bases and eventually go global, Nina is just getting started. Solime Royal Hair isn’t just filling a gap—it’s building a legacy of representation, empowerment, and care for military communities around the world.
BUILDING BRANDS WITH PURPOSE:
Tony Taylor’s Blueprint for Veteran Entrepreneurs
From the battlefield to the boardroom, Tony Taylor has transformed his life’s journey into a mission of impact A U S Marine Corps veteran, firefighter, and now the founder of The Experts Blueprint and host of the Leaders Lead Podcast, Tony is devoted to one powerful idea: empowering military-connected individuals to share their stories, embrace leadership, and build purpose-driven businesses.
Tony’s story begins at 17, when he joined the Marine Corps in search of structure and opportunity. Like many veterans, Tony’s transition to civilian life wasn’t seamless. He served as a Department of Defense firefighter and later moved into corporate safety, but something was missing his voice.
That changed when he discovered entrepreneurship Starting Leaders Lead gave Tony a platform to explore leadership, mindset, and growth especially for veterans, active-duty members, and first responders. The podcast quickly became more than a show; it became a movement to help others reclaim their narratives and step into their power.
In a world where entrepreneurship often chases profit over purpose, Reggie Ordonez is charting a different course As the founder of Forward Brands, Reggie has built a company that helps purposedriven businesses find clarity, direction, and the confidence to grow without losing sight of their mission.
Reggie’s entrepreneurial roots run deep. Since 2018, he’s been a key figure in the veteran entrepreneur space, starting as the founding director of an SBA Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC). He went on to earn an MBA in marketing and entrepreneurship, later leading the acquisition of Bunker Labs by the Institute for Veterans and Military Families an achievement that cemented his strategic chops.
But Reggie wanted to create something of his own With Forward Brands, he launched a business committed to helping founders navigate their brand journey with strategy, messaging, and momentum. His signature offering the Brand Strategy Sprint is a five-week cohort program designed to help entrepreneurs refine their brand identity and take action with confidence. It’s a powerful blend of marketing insight and entrepreneurial empathy.
Reggie’s approach is shaped by years of mentorship and collaboration with changemakers like Stephanie Brown, Todd Connor, and Jason Van Camp, and marketing minds like Donald Miller and Al Ries. His secret weapon? A mindset rooted in service, paired with the belief that action however imperfect is better than waiting for the “perfect” moment
“LAUNCH, REFINE, ADJUST, TEST YOUR IDEAS. START SMALL. DON’T LET ANALYSIS PARALYSIS KEEP YOU FROM MOVING FORWARD.”
His greatest challenge? Overcoming fear and self-doubt. But for Reggie, entrepreneurship is about more than just building a business it’s about reclaiming time, investing in family, and doing work that fulfills Success, to him, means serving others while staying aligned with his own values
Looking ahead, Reggie hopes to be remembered not just as a brand strategist, but as someone who helped entrepreneurs realize their potential and pursue their goals with clarity and purpose. His journey is one of resilience, community, and unwavering belief in the power of purposedriven leadership.
And for Reggie Ordonez and Forward Brands the journey is just getting started.
LATOYA WESTBROOK: From
Combat to Consciousness with The Inked Alch3mist
From the frontlines of military service to the quiet power of spiritual healing, LaToya Westbrook has walked two very different paths both guided by service, discipline, and transformation. A combat veteran turned holistic healer, LaToya is the founder of The Inked Alch3mist, a healing practice where she blends energy work, sound therapy, and intuitive guidance to support veterans and wellness seekers through anxiety, PTSD, and emotional stress.
Her journey into entrepreneurship began with personal healing. “I knew I had to create a space for others like me especially veterans to heal and rediscover themselves,” she says. The result is a powerful fusion of military precision and soulful intuition that defines The Inked Alch3mist.
LaToya’s spiritual foundation and connection with her “Spirit Team” have anchored her throughout her evolution. Support from programs like The Rosie Network’s Service2CEO and Soul Success Unleashed, along with coaches Myles and Cortney, helped sharpen her business acumen. And Joseph Murphy’s The Power of Your Subconscious Mind became a touchstone for her mindset work.
At the heart of The Inked Alch3mist is transformation clearing energetic blockages, releasing limiting beliefs, and reconnecting with one’s purpose. But getting the business off the ground wasn’t without struggle. “Visibility and finding clients were real challenges at first,” LaToya admits. She overcame them by sharing her story openly, building community, and trusting her intuition.
One major milestone was landing multiple contracts after relocating to a new state a testament to her ability to realign, adapt, and thrive. For LaToya, success isn’t just financial. It’s the ripple effect of healing. “Helping others find peace and clarity— that’s everything.”
Among her biggest lessons? “Mindset is everything. Your thoughts shape your reality. You have to actively participate in your healing and success.”
Her advice for aspiring holistic entrepreneurs: be authentic.
There’s no competition when you’re aligned with your truth. People are drawn to realness.
Looking back, LaToya wishes she’d let go of control sooner. “Surrendering when something no longer aligns is powerful. Failure isn’t the end it’s redirection.” Today, she sees The Inked Alch3mist not just as a business, but a movement. Her legacy? A path to healing, empowerment, and souldeep transformation.
“I’m grateful for every mentor, client, and friend who’s walked with me,” she says. “This journey isn’t mine alone—it’s collective. And it’s just getting started.”

AMY FORSYTHE: Turning Service into Storytelling
After more than 30 years in uniform, Amy Forsythe is still on a mission but now, her battlefield is the blank page, and her weapon is storytelling. A former U.S. Marine and Navy public affairs officer, Amy has seamlessly transitioned from military service to entrepreneurship, founding Heroes Live Here, a platform devoted to preserving the legacies of America’s service members through books, speaking engagements, and historical media.
Amy’s entrepreneurial fire was lit long before she ever wore a uniform. Raised by parents who ran their own businesses, she witnessed firsthand the courage and creativity it takes to carve your own path That spirit stayed with her through deployments, transitions, and eventually into her next chapter: author, journalist, and founder
Her breakout book, Heroes Live Here, pays tribute to the fallen heroes of Camp Pendleton and has become a national touchstone in the military community The book’s success opened new doors keynote speeches at major conferences, media coverage, and a loyal following that values authenticity and legacy as much as she does.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Amy admits the learning curve of entrepreneurship was steep. Juggling taxes, inventory, and sales systems was foreign territory. Fortunately, with the support of her husband and an unrelenting drive to learn, she embraced the challenge and grew stronger for it.
Today, Amy defines success as the freedom to align her work with her purpose. She no longer says “yes” out of obligation but chooses collaborations that resonate with her mission. “I’ve learned that saying ‘no’ is just as powerful as saying ‘yes,’” she shares.
To aspiring authors and entrepreneurs, Amy offers this advice: Get visible. Build a smart marketing plan, stay consistent on social media, and don’t be afraid to pivot. Rejection is part of the process what matters most is persistence and purpose.
Looking back, Amy wishes she had jumped into entrepreneurship sooner “There’s a freedom here that’s hard to explain,” she says “It’s not just about selling books it’s about telling stories that matter.”
Through Heroes Live Here, Amy is doing more than building a business she’s building a legacy. And her greatest hope? That others will be inspired to do the same.

LILY DAGDAG: BUILDING MOMENTUM,
ONE ENTREPRENEUR AT A TIME
For Lily Dagdag, entrepreneurship wasn’t just a career choice it was a lifeline As a mother navigating the unpredictable rhythms of military family life, she quickly realized that the traditional 9-to-5 wasn’t going to cut it. Instead, she forged her own path, launching Milspouse Momentum a coaching and community platform designed to help others do the same.
Lily’s story began with a simple need: flexibility. With a newborn daughter, limited childcare options, and a husband on active duty, she struggled to find employment that matched her family’s needs. Rather than settle, she created her own opportunity. Over the years, as her family grew and her husband transitioned out of the military, Lily continued to build a business that could move with her one that evolved as her life did.
But it wasn’t always easy. While Lily had more than a decade of experience in web design, stepping into the role of coach demanded new skills and a leap of faith. She dove into research, sought guidance from other successful entrepreneurs, and leaned into community. Bit by bit, Milspouse Momentum was born.
Now, Lily empowers others to do what she’s done: launch sustainable, values-aligned businesses that offer freedom, flexibility, and financial independence She helps her clients get clear on who they serve, set boundaries that protect their time and energy, and step boldly into entrepreneurship even if they’ve never seen themselves as business owners before.
Her success, she says, isn’t measured in dollar signs, but in moments being able to support her family, saying yes to clients who light her up, and knowing she’s helping others find their footing “It’s not just about making money,” Lily says. “It’s about building something that supports the life you want.”
One of the biggest lessons she’s learned? Let go sooner. “Sometimes the hardest part is releasing what’s no longer working,” she reflects. “But every pivot opens a new door.”
Through Milspouse Momentum, Lily is proving that entrepreneurship isn’t just possible it’s powerful. With heart, hustle, and a whole lot of purpose, she’s helping others take the first step, pick up speed, and keep moving forward

Managing Costs Wisely

RYAN HUNT: VETERAN SOCIAL SUMMIT
Leading a Movement to Empower Veterans Through Entrepreneurship
Ryan Hunt is no ordinary entrepreneur—he’s a visionary, a connector, and a proud veteran on a mission to uplift his community. As the founder of Tenth Mountain LLC and Veteran Social Summit, Ryan is using the power of entrepreneurship to unite and elevate veterans across the country. His work is rooted in service, inspired by legacy, and driven by an unwavering belief in the power of community.
Ryan’s journey into business started with a single sticker a redesigned version of the iconic 10th Mountain Division emblem That small spark ignited a wildfire of ideas, ultimately launching Mountain Up, an e-commerce brand that generated over $1 million in just 18 months. From there, Ryan expanded his mission with ventures like Tenth Mountain Recruiting, Veteran Lifestyle Magazine, and the Veteran Social Summit each built on the foundation of service and storytelling.
For more than 20 years, Nikki James Zellner made her mark in media and marketing crafting stories for community newspapers, launching lifestyle magazines across states, and helping brands find their voice. While she thrived in the world of publishing and digital media, entrepreneurship came later, born from a desire to align her work with a deeper mission. Today, she runs her own brand advisory and creative services business while leading CO Safe Schools, a carbon monoxide safety initiative that has already helped change legislation and protect lives.
Although Nikki had long supported small businesses, launching her own wasn’t something she envisioned early in her career. It took a strong network of fellow military spouse entrepreneurs to show her what was possible. Through the Milspo Project, she found mentorship, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Leaders like Elizabeth Boardman and Ashley Matejka helped her realize she could build a business rooted in advocacy, storytelling, and impact.
Nikki’s mission is clear: to help people step into their power and create meaningful change. Whether she’s advising brands, advocating for safer schools, or coaching youth sports, her work centers on amplifying voices and helping others be seen, heard, and understood. That mission became especially personal when her own children suffered carbon monoxide poisoning at school. Rather than simply react, she took action using her skills in messaging, strategy, and communitybuilding to successfully push for a new law in Virginia that now mandates carbon monoxide detection in schools
The journey hasn’t been without challenges. Juggling caregiving responsibilities, a chronic illness, and a growing business meant redefining success on her own terms. The hustle culture didn’t work for her, so she chose a different path one that values boundaries, sustainability, and alignment over constant motion. That shift allowed her to build a career that not only supports her family but also fuels her purpose.
Nikki offers advice to aspiring entrepreneurs that is as practical as it is powerful: build a business that fits your life, not the other way around. Learn to say no to what doesn’t align. Let your work evolve with you. And most of all, don’t just sell something—stand for something.
Looking ahead, Nikki hopes to be remembered not just as a creative or a strategist, but as a voice amplifier and movement builder Her story is one of resilience, clarity, and purpose a reminder that the most meaningful work we do often begins when we step up, speak out, and commit to making a difference.
Angela credits her lifelong friend, Christy Resendes, a professional bodybuilder and fearless businesswoman, as her inspiration. “Whenever I’m doubting myself, I can hear her voice pushing me —‘One more, come on, push!’” Equally influential is her husband, whose strength and positivity helped Angela believe in herself enough to leave the corporate safety net behind.
At the heart of Bodcor Chelmsford is a mission far deeper than aesthetics: helping clients reclaim confidence and self-esteem through safe, personalized body contouring paired with nutritional guidance and accountability “When clients walk out feeling better about themselves, that’s my definition of success ”
“Letting go of the corporate structure was terrifying,” she admits. “But the idea of staying somewhere that drained me was just as risky.” With determination and a clear sense of purpose, Angela renovated a raw space into a welcoming med spa, trusting that her vision would speak for itself.
Success for Angela isn’t just financial; It’s finding balance, delivering transformative results, and building a strong reputation rooted in integrity. “It’s not just about staying ahead with cutting-edge treatments it’s about being seen as a specialist who truly cares.”
Angela’s advice to others in the wellness industry? Do your homework. Stay informed about the technology, safety standards, and evolving trends. And never underestimate the power of organic networking and word-of-mouth marketing. “Engagement is everything.”
If she could change one thing, she says she would’ve done more competitor research upfront. “It’s important to know what sets you apart when people ask ” In the end, Angela hopes Bodcor Chelmsford leaves a legacy not only of beauty but of confidence, community, and inspiration, especially for other women stepping into entrepreneurship
SASHA SAVAGE: Turning Strategy into Lasting Impact
Sasha’s path to entrepreneurship began with a desire to help others and a talent for planning. She saw potential in events not as standalone moments, but as strategic platforms for businesses and communities to thrive. With every project, she brings her natural gift for organization and detail, creating experiences that go beyond the surface to foster real collaboration and impact. “I love building connections,” Sasha says. “Through my business, I get to do that every day—and help others grow while I grow, too.”
Support and mentorship have played key roles in Sasha’s evolution. Organizations like The Rosie Network, Dog Tag Inc., and American Corporate Partners helped her navigate the ups and downs of business ownership. Their support reminded her of the power of resilience and the importance of pivoting with purpose. These lessons became part of her business DNA: thoughtful strategy, clear goals, and a willingness to keep learning.
the research. Know your niche. Ask for help. And don’t wait for perfection—start now. Practice makes progression.”

ANDREA SINGSAAS: Building Leadership with Clarity and Purpose
Andrea Singsaas didn’t set out to become an entrepreneur she set out to build a life aligned with her values. Starting a business wasn’t about chasing titles; it was about clarity, courage, and impact. As a military spouse navigating a demanding lifestyle, Andrea needed work that was both flexible and meaningful. While pursuing her MBA, she discovered executive coaching and realized it was more than a career. It was a calling.
As classmates turned to her for guidance, coaching came naturally. What began informally became a mission: to help leaders grow, evolve, and stay grounded Launching her coaching practice created something purposeful for her clients, and for her three daughters, who watch her build with integrity
Her journey has been shaped by community. The strength of the military spouse network, the veteran community, and the mentorship of Master Certified Coach Karen Capello helped her realize this work was no side hustle—it was a catalyst for change.
Through her company, The Tyne Group, Andrea coaches high-capacity professionals navigating growth and transition. Her approach isn’t about trends it’s about alignment. For Andrea, leadership means staying true to who you are, even in uncertainty.
She built her business lean and intentionally, resisting pressure to scale fast or adopt every new tool. Two milestones affirmed her path: speaking at the Americans Working Around the Globe (AWAG) seminar in Germany and earning her ACC credential from the International Coaching Federation.
Andrea defines success not by accolades but by alignment doing work that feels right and protecting her energy. Her advice? Keep it simple. Stay focused. Know your values and do the inner work first.
She’s not chasing legacy in metrics. She hopes her daughters remember the quiet moments—watching her work with purpose. She wants them to know that risk is worth it, and that strength often looks like showing up, staying true, and building something real.
And that, to Andrea Singsaas, is the truest definition of success.
Katie Kilby: Building Community and Support Through Reveille Grounds
In the heart of Baltimore, Maryland, Katie Kilby is reshaping how veterans and their families connect, thrive, and find purpose after service. As the founder of Reveille Grounds, Katie has stepped beyond traditional support systems to create a vibrant hub where community is the core and connection is the goal.
Katie never imagined herself as an entrepreneur. But after more than a decade working in military and veteran nonprofits —witnessing both triumphs and systemic gaps— she saw the need for something different. Too often, support was scattered and siloed. Driven by frustration and hope, she envisioned a more cohesive space, one where veterans could easily access resources. That vision became Reveille Grounds: a 6,700-square-foot community in Baltimore that unites veterans, families, and organizations under one roof
Her leadership roots trace back to her time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bulgaria nearly 20 years ago There, a mentor’s determination to fund a denied youth camp taught her the power of persistence and creative problem-solving lessons that have shaped her journey ever since.
Launching Reveille Grounds came with challenges. The biggest wasn’t fundraising it was silencing selfdoubt. Katie wrestled with imposter syndrome, so she chose “BOLD” as her mantra, sharing her idea widely and pushing through uncertainty. On Veterans Day 2023, Reveille Grounds celebrated its ribboncutting with over 300 visitors and 37 partner organizations turning vision into reality.
For Katie, success isn’t in metrics or headlines, it’s in the veteran who says, “I didn’t know something like this existed,” or the spouse who finally feels seen Reveille Grounds makes these moments possible, building a space where belonging is guaranteed. Katie believes in failing forward and collaboration Her advice to changemakers? Don’t reinvent the wheel strengthen what already exists. Innovation thrives in collective momentum.
Katie isn’t just building a space, she’s creating a movement that empowers veterans to embrace their next chapter with strength and dignity.
Raul Betancourt: Empowering People Through Security
Expertise with Phylax Global
Raul Betancourt didn’t launch Phylax Global simply to offer security services—he built it to empower people. With over two decades of military service behind him, Raul brought to his company more than tactical experience; he brought a mission to educate and protect individuals and families with confidence and clarity. .
After leaving the military, Raul knew he wanted more independence, and he saw a powerful opportunity to channel his security knowledge into something meaningful. What began as a desire to help others take control of their safety became a concierge security company offering tailored solutions to highnet-worth individuals, businesses, and organizations. But beyond its client base, the true mission of Phylax Global is education teaching people to identify realworld threats, respond effectively, and take command of their personal safety.
Raul’s vision was never about just putting guards at doors. It was about transforming the way people understand and engage with their own security. He believes true empowerment comes from knowledge and preparation, and Phylax Global embodies that belief in every service it provides
Starting the company wasn’t without its challenges. One of Raul’s biggest hurdles was finding the right clients those who truly valued and needed the kind of personalized, high-level security his team offers. He quickly realized the importance of a screening process, ensuring each engagement aligned with the mission.
One of the defining moments of his journey came when Phylax Global was recognized as a trusted, fullservice concierge security provider by top-tier clients in high society circles. This milestone wasn’t just about status it was a validation of his team’s tireless work, integrity, and professionalism
For Raul, success isn’t measured by revenue or recognition, but by impact. It’s in the peace of mind his clients feel when they go to sleep at night, knowing they are prepared. It’s in the confidence they carry as they move through the world, no longer anxious, but aware and ready That sense of empowerment that’s the legacy Raul aims to leave behind
The path to building a business, especially one in such a critical field, is full of setbacks, but also rich with growth. Raul encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to embrace the hard parts, learn from their mistakes, and surround themselves with smart, supportive people. One area he admits he overlooked early on was marketing—knowing how to share your story, he says, is just as important as delivering a quality service.
Today, Raul stands proud not only as the founder of a growing company, but as a mentor and protector With the unwavering support of his family and friends, he has built something that goes far beyond business Phylax Global is about restoring control, creating safety, and helping people live boldly no longer as passive recipients of protection, but as confident stewards of their own security.
BAKING UP SWEET MEMORIES: The Heart Behind Kids’ Cake Boxes
For Karen Hetz, founder of Kids’ Cake Boxes, baking is more than just flour and frosting it’s about family, connection, and joy. A military spouse based in Northern Virginia, Karen’s entrepreneurial journey began in the quiet but powerful moments of parenting solo, with her husband often away serving the country During those times, the kitchen became a place of healing and togetherness, and baking a ritual of love.
“Childhood is so fleeting,” Karen reflects. “Baking was one of the few things that brought us all together, screen-free and connected. I wanted to share that feeling with other families.” That vision became Kids’ Cake Boxes, a delightful line of DIY baking kits designed specifically for kids and parents to bond over sweet creations.
Each box is thoughtfully curated to be just the right size easy enough for little hands to manage, but creative enough to spark excitement and confidence in young bakers And while the kits bring sugar and smiles, the core mission runs mily bonds and build pcake at a time.
But like many entrepreneurs, Karen’s path wasn’t without challenges. With no initial access to major capital, she bootstrapped her way forward, turning to pitch competitions for funding opportunities. One of her proudest moments? A pitch invitation from Walmart’s 2024 “Made in America” Open Call “They didn’t say yes yet but being noticed by Walmart was a win in itself,” Karen says. “The experience helped me grow in ways I didn’t expect.”
For Karen, success isn’t about how many kits she sells or what shelves they land on. It’s about the ripple effect. It’s in her daughter playing pretend CEO and her sons drafting neighborhood business plans. It’s in inspiring other parents—especially military spouses—to realize they already have the resilience and adaptability to build something beautiful.
With a growing brand, a clear mission, and a whole lot of heart, Karen Hetz is showing that legacy isn’t just something you leave it’s something you bake into every moment along the way.
TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS
“No one knows your business better than you do.
There’s so much noise out there. But your heart knows the way. ”
