The Roses’ Standing Ovation: Celebrating 50 Years of Stage & Stories
The Roses has been at the heart of our community since HRH Princess Anne opened its doors on the 30 Oct 1975.
For 50 years, we’ve brought a vibrant mix of entertainment, unforgettable performances and a place where friendships (and even a little romance) can flourish.
This year, we’re celebrating half a century of joy, creativity and connection—we want to hear the entire Roses story and we need you to help us mark this milestone truly special.
Share Your Roses Story
We want to hear your stories! The Roses has touched so many lives over the decades and we’re inviting you to reminisce with us. What does The Roses mean to you? Maybe it’s a heartwarming moment, a funny story or even something a little cheeky—we want to hear it all!
Alongside your story, do you have something you can share? A photo? A ticket stub? Maybe a diary entry, a letter or even an outfit you wore that night? Whatever it is—big or small—we’d love to include it as part of our 50 Years of Stage & Stories project.

Turn Your Stories into Something Extraordinary

Let’s come together to rediscover what makes our theatre so special to all of us. Once we’ve collected your stories, we’re aiming to turn them into something extraordinary—a tribute to our shared history. By contributing, you’ll be part of a project that celebrates the past while looking forward to the future.
How to Share Your Memories
There are lots of easy ways to get involved by Mon 30 Jun:
• Online: Fill in the form at rosestheatre.org/standing-ovation
• In-person: Pick up a 50 Years of Stage & Stories card at The Roses and drop it into our postbox during opening hours

This story is all about your memories at The Roses. Together, let’s give your theatre the standing ovation it deserves for 50 incredible years!
Hello!
Welcome to the Spring issue of The Roses brochure. This year, we’re thrilled to celebrate an incredible milestone—50 years since The Roses first opened its doors in 1975. We’ve got a year full of events and celebrations for you to get involved in, and we can’t wait to share it all with you. Whether you’re reminiscing with us by sharing your memories of The Roses, joining the festivities at our Bloomin’ 50 Fest, or reliving five decades of classic cinema moments with Roses Rewind, there’s so much to look forward to as we mark this golden anniversary.
We’re also excited to welcome back the Future’s Now Festival in April for its second year. This one-of-a-kind event brings gaming and film together for an immersive experience perfect for families, teenagers and the young at heart.
For families, our half-term programme is packed with fun, including A Pirate Picnic (free with an All Aboard Pirate Adventure ticket) and a Circus Skills Workshop for children aged 7–11 in May. Plus, it’s never too early to plan ahead for summer—don’t miss securing a spot at our popular Summer School , kicking off the holiday season with creativity and fun for young people.
And there’s even more to enjoy! Our Friends Membership has just got even better—offering priority booking, exclusive discounts and more. There’s never been a better time to become a Friend of The Roses. Find out more on page 4.

Friends Membership Just Got Even Better!
True friendship is about showing up and being there through thick and thin. That’s exactly what our Friends do for The Roses.
Without the loyal support of our donors, Friends and Patrons, The Roses simply wouldn’t exist today. They are the reason our lights are on, our stage is alive and our community has a place to come together.
Unlike many theatres, we don’t receive any local government or arts council funding. This means every ticket sold, every coffee bought and every Friend signed up helps keep our doors open. And with rising costs, an ageing building to maintain and artists to support, it’s more challenging than ever.
That’s why we need Friends like you.
Becoming a Friend of The Roses isn’t just about supporting your local theatre; it’s about ensuring we continue to be a vibrant hub for entertainment, connection and creativity for years to come. And because Friends are so important to us, we’ve made our membership even better!
After all, what are Friends for?

The Black Feathers
TUE 6 MAY 8.00PM
If you think The Black Feathers are named for their love of dark humour and smooth harmonies, you’d be wrong.
The name actually nods to their gentle souls, preference for dark clothing, and the influence of progressive metal bands from the 1990s and beyond. While their name might not suggest it, their music is a masterful blend of vocal harmony and unique guitar shapes.
Americana to some, folk to others, The Black Feathers are full of both.
