CONGRATULATIONS! Being chosen as “the best of the best” is a big deal for these people, businesses, professional clinics, service-related providers and others because every single vote was cast by readers of this newspaper ... home folks who live here, work here, shop here, pay taxes here, and who interact daily with these local retailers, manufacturers and professionals.

Each summer, the Review publishes ballots asking readers to nominate their favorites in more than 100 categories. Readers can even “write in” choices. Those ballots are counted and the results honestly and accurately tabulated.

It is one small way that readers can say “THANK YOU” to the folks they do business with. “THANK YOU” for caring. “THANK YOU” for just being there during those times when they needed you.

Businesses understand that — to stay in business — they must have high standards; offer goods and services that people need at affordable prices; and, above all, be the “best of the best” at providing customer service, before, during, and after the sale.

If your company was selected as a winner or a runner-up, it is a strong statement by your customers and clients that you are doing an exemplary job of meeting their goals and expectations.

We hope that winners will display their certificates and window decals with pride. When you see these, take time to congratulate these men and women whose dedication truly keeps our county’s world turning.

This year, for the first time, we expanded on our “Best of the Best” awards by hosting a semi-formal dinner, hosted by none other than Rogersville’s native son, country music legend Charlie Chase, of “Crook and Chase” fame, who drove over from Nashville to serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Charlie did an outstanding job of entertaining everyone, and also announced the winners while I called out the names of the finalists.

On Thursday evening, July 23, 2015, almost 200 people gathered at Hope Community Church to enjoy a delicious meal (catered by Sugar Beets Catering), listen to delightful live music performed by Brim Leal and Marcie Layne, laugh at Charlie’s jokes and reminiscences, and where the winners were invited to “come on down!” the red carpet to receive their award in person from Advertising Sales Representatives Abby Swearingen and Buffy Sizemore.

During his remarks, Charlie reflected on how Rogersville and Hawkins County as a whole, while progressing as they should, have been able to keep the “small town charm”.

“It’s no easy task to accomplish that balance,” he said. “However, with the business leaders we are honoring tonight, it’s quite evident that they are getting the job done. To the ‘Best of the Best’, you are being honored tonight by your community ... I feel there is no greater compliment to be ranked the best by those with whom you serve and socialize.”

Well said, Charlie!

Again, congratulations to all of the winners, and a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated or had a hand in our very first awards dinner, especially our two main sponsors, First Community Bank and East Tennessee Pest Control; LuShep Baldwin, Jones Media’s Director of Educational Services and Event Marketing, for her hours of “behind the scenes” efforts to help plan, coordinate and stage the Review’s premiere event; and to all of our dedicated Review staff who pitched in and helped in so many ways to make the evening a success.
