Riding season 2017 has gotten off to a soggy start to say the least. But make no mistake, it has begun! There are times, as a biker, when you can’t let the calendar, thermometers and the actual weather conditions determine when riding season begins or ends! It is instinctive! A natural internal mechanism, or sense that dictates what bikers do and when they do it, much like what makes the birds migrate or bears and other beasts shit in the woods or hibernate. It is a stirring in our souls that compels us to sometimes ignore what is accumulating on the ground around us or falling from the skies or what the thermometer or a nagging spouse tells us is too fucking cold to be out on a motorcycle!! Sure, we would all prefer warm, dry, sunny summer days, as much as we’d prefer to be rich as well as ruggedly handsome or exceptionally beautiful (Depending upon your gender or preference of course!). But the reality is our riding season up here in the great white north is far too short already and sometimes you just take what you get and make the best of a bad situation. It makes no sense to non-bikers, hence the expression: “If I have to explain it, you wouldn`t understand.” For me, personally, life experience has taught me many things. The lack of pigment in my ever dwindling hairline, (Which seems to have been trade-off for the expansion of my girth.) along with the multitude of bumps, lumps, wrinkles and scars and a myriad of other quirky things that age has provided to amuse or bewilder me. Perhaps it is part of some master plan gone terribly awry? A plan that would make me appear weathered and wise as I share my thoughts and insights that I have garnered over the years with the younger generation. In other words, posturing as some wise old bird and saying I finally figured out some shit along the way through my life! I am now able to resist some of those urges, somewhat, sometimes and make different decisions than I did in my youth, most of the time. That is because I have come to realize that many of the aches and pains that I now experience on a regular basis and that become even more evident, pronounced and uncomfortable in shitty weather were the direct or indirect results of some of the poor decisions I made back in the days of my youth! I have said many times that I never expected to live this long as if I knew I would have done things differently and taken better care of myself! That is bullshit! If I knew then, what I know now, other than on rare occasions, I may have stopped quicker, zagged instead of zigged, weaved in place of having bobbed, ducked a little faster and more often, swerved here and there or made some other minor adjustments in my actions and reactions! But in the end, I wouldn’t change a thing. I would have married the same woman, done my same job and lived by the same code. Those events and the people that have come and gone in my life are what shaped me into what I am and makes my life, my life and memorable to me and gives me stories to tell! Rock on! Live life until you can’t do it anymore! You can love me or hate me! I don’t ask for permission to be

whom and what I am and ask for no forgiveness! If when I’m gone and I should come to mind, I hope you can smile and raise a glass (Or a 50) to my memory I would be happy! But, laugh, cry, smile, grimace, scowl or frown if there is any reaction, I was here and touched your life! Tag! You’re it! This is going to be a very busy season and there are lots of events happening all over the country so I hope Mother Nature gets all this crap out of her system early and can settle back and give us some decent weather for a change. Ontario, is my main focus, and though at some point I get here there and everywhere because none of our people have exclusive boundaries. I tend to concentrate on Southern Ontario and let the reps from other areas look after their zones. We all may overlap from time to time as we try to cover as many events as we can and there is no shortage of events! There are more than enough to keep us busy right through until fall. In fact it will be a real challenge to get our people out to provide coverage for all of them. We have the already established events like Classy Chassis great kick off to the season with their 11th Anniversary BBQ Bash on May 27th. I’d love to go but I have to spread the coverage around and may well have to go somewhere else and let Lil’ Red, Gypsy or whoever can make it cover Classy Chassis. Because I have conflicting
events such as Motorcycle Enhancement’s Ride to Reach Charity Ride that is on the same day. Then the Dedicated few have their ride that day as well and so it goes. In some cases I have to ask someone from the event to provide pictures and a small write up just to let people know what happened there. All the events are important and it isn’t due to lack of interest if someone from the Mag doesn’t show up, just lack of personnel and not enough hours in a day. The Rideau Rendezvous that is happening in Sensational Smiths Falls this July 14 through July 16th is really developing into an awesome event and new things are being added to the itinerary all the time! It promises to be one Hell of a bash! We have started our Riders Nights in conjunction with Black Gold, Knife and Leather and Kosmos Restaurant, 1225 Gorham St. in Newmarket which will run rain or shine every Thursday from 5:30 on until we all leave. We have our Hosts and Hostesses there to give out door prizes and keep things lively. Black Gold, Knife and Leather will be open directly across the road and you can take advantage of some great Riders Night Special Discounts or pick up the latest offerings of The Riders Mag support items!
The food is outstanding and the service is friendly. The restaurant just recently reopened under new ownership and they are still ge�ng things structured so some items in the bar (Like 50) have yet to be added but it is a work in progress. The first week we were blessed with torrential rains that had many parts of the Province experiencing floods and washed out roads and I wasn’t really shocked when after driving there in the “Black Bitch”, found only Managing Editor Al and the lovely Miss Kitty there. We sat enjoyed a beer or two and partook of some of the incredible fare that they offer. Our first Riders Night for 2017 Season was officially a wash out! The next week the rains continued with very few breaks
right through until late afternoon when the sun suddenly appeared and it warmed up. Up until that point I expected to drive there again hang out with Al, Miss Kitty and the staff, drink a couple of beer and have some more of those wonderful lemon/pepper chicken wings then head home with another wash out in the books. Now at first I thought that it was a trap and “Mother Nature” being the crafty, sneaky butch that she is, was just trying to lure me out into the open on my bike so she could give me my first good drenching of the 2017 season! I waited a bit, and after scanning the skies for any sign of black foreboding clouds and took the ultimate leap of faith, hopped on the Trike, fired her up and headed off. All the while I was expecting a bolt of lightning and a thunderous roar to come from above as a precursor to ge�ng lambast-

ed with basketball sized hail, to be immediately followed by sheets of rain and would be engulfed in a downpour that would rival Niagara Falls in volumes of water. All this would precede the funnel cloud which swoop in and carry me off to a place that wasn’t Kansas and me and my little dog would be hanging around with some strange characters and watching for witches and flying monkeys. As it turned out, I arrived safe, sound and dry. All was good and I never had to click the heels of my ruby encrusted boots or anything! Al was there, as was Miss Kitty and Gypsy who had broken free of previous engagements early and was able to come out to help. Then we heard the rumble of motorcycles and were delighted and surprized to see many familiar faces walk through the door and they kept coming and we soon had a respectable turn out for a day where just a couple of hours previous was ominous to say the least. We enjoyed some great food, some good conversation

and even did a draw for a door prize which was a gi� certificate from Black Gold. It has potential to be a really good event and we will add more things to it as we go and develop it into a true “Biker event” that is needed in the area where your presence and your business is really appreciated! They are offering a great “Riders Night Specials” One is a pitcher of beer and half price wings! Trust me! The wings are fantastic and I hear the home made Kosmos Burger is incredible! I may have to put more air in the suspension of the Trike! We may even try to do some breakfast rides or get-togethers as well in the future! It is a good sized venue that can seat at present around 80 people in the main room. They have made an application for a patio. There is easy access, close to major roads with lots of free parking. It would make a great stop for a poker run as the staff there are keen to accommodate the needs of your group. Their hours right now are structured more for early in the days as it is in an industrial district and they are new at this location, and still ge�ng established and gaining their own footing and the hours will be increased as business increases. They are open late on Thursday and Friday evenings. There could very well be more discounts for readers of The Riders Mag as the owners are very receptive to promoting their restaurant as a biker friendly spot! I am also in the process of adding more Riders Mag Support items to our ever increasing line of products and working on a way to make more available to you other than at the Riders Mag area that is at Black Gold and through our online and mail order sales. I am looking to have a lady travel with me to events and she would sell from the back of my trike or truck. We have shirts, t shirts, lapel pins, patches, rings and knives. We will be adding pendants, dog tags, hats, buckles, belts and more as budgets permit! Also, because apparently I have far too much spare time on my hands, in addition to my usual Annual Show and Shine that I do with Black Gold, Knife and Leather up in Newmarket on the last Sunday in August and all the usual stuff that goes with it! Barrie Swap Meet My buddy Deadly Doug and his charming companion Flo met me at Casa Critter on a dreary, drab, cold and wet morning loaded ourselves into The Black Bitch and headed north to Barrie, arriving well before opening, as vendors were still se�ng up. The Riders Mag is really the only real advertising that the organisers of these series of Swap Meets do to promote them and they consistently have crowds lined up at the door long before the scheduled opening and are overwhelmed by vendors. Due to some unfortunate communication problems, they didn’t get the artwork in to us in time to advertise this event in the Mag. We did some last minute scrambling and were able to do some advertising online and social media marketing for them but I wasn’t really too surprised to find less than the usual packed venue when we arrived. The venue itself was good with plenty of parking and there was an elevator that facilitated the transport of goods and people in and out of there. I had arranged for the ever amazing, Ali to don her Rideau Rendezvous gear and meet us at the Swap Meet to promote the event that will happen this summer in Sensational Smiths Falls July 14 to 16. Ali along with our other
team of ladies had done an incredible job representing the event for us at the recent Spring Motorcycle Show. She is a local lady it who owns and operates an amazing store “Sinfull Delight Boutique” on Clapperton St. right in downtown Barrie. Her shop is closed on Sunday so we were happy to be able to hire her on short notice. She looked incredible as usual but she has a very distinct presence that goes beyond her stunning physical appearance and she is a true asset. I armed her with a bunch of flyers and turned her loose. I made my way around the room visiting with many of the vendors and attendees along the way. There were many familiar faces and it is always a pleasure to see them. Dazzling Deb, from Bling Your Things with her usual incredible display of gleam and glitter that

is only rivaled by her radiant smile, has become a fixture at all of these events and is always a welcome sight. She was kind enough let Ali stash her stuff behind her booth and let her use it as a base. Doug, Flo and myself wandered a bit before leaving Ali on her own and making our way out and on to other things that required our attention and attendance elsewhere.

I did get reports form Ali, organizers, and vendors that while attendance was less than spectacular, it was steady throughout the day. The organizers who already know the value of advertising with The Riders Mag have set up a meeting with us to insure that lines of communications are open for all future events! Tiny’s Cycle Fish Fry Cold and wet, seems to have been the general mood of that crusty old hag that we call “Mother Nature” for the last couple of months and from my first early morning, glance out my window it was obvious that today wasn’t going to be any different. Any thoughts I may have had of riding to this event were washed down the gutter by the steady downpour. I loaded my gear into the warm, dry and comfortable cab of “The Black Bitch” (My Trusty F150) and headed off along rain soaked roads to the Wilds of Port Elgin in search of the sun and/or the warm hospitality of Tiny’s Cycle in Beautiful Port Elgin. The sun failed to appear but the Fish Fry and the warm and friendly environment that Tiny and company create here on annual basis, more than made up for it. This was their 7th Year and it is still going on and is Tiny’s way of giving back to the community. He buys the fish and potatoes and gives them to the volunteers from The Rotary Club who do an excellent job of frying it and serving it up. Attendance at the event tends to fluctuate depending on the weather but they still drew out around 100 people this year while other years have seen over 300 souls chow down on the delicious plates piled high and steaming hot. I rolled in to the large parking lot and found a place to park and slogged

my way through puddles towards the entrance to Tiny’s great shop that so many local bikers have come to trust with their motorcycles. The lot was filled to capacity and parking now spilled out to the shoulders of the road. Cars and trucks seemed to be the choice of transportation today although there are always a few hard core (stubborn) bikers who refuse to let the weather determine what is and what isn’t riding weather. Their bikes proudly sat in an ever expanding puddle, out front in defiance and to spite of to the haughty whims of an increasingly annoying “Mother Nature”. Once inside it was a different World where they were oblivious to what was going on outside those doors. The place was crammed with people. The incredibly talented artist/painter Vince Goodeve had a great display of his work set up just inside the door and was demonstrating his artistic flare with an airbrush creating a custom paintjob on a small refrigerator that was to be raffled off later in the day. Tiny spotted me and headed over to say hi and then escorted me to the shop area that was now the dining area with a series of long picnic tables stretching the length of the shop and they were loaded up with people all enjoying the massive servings of Fish and Chips. No one here was going to let a little rain spoil a good day! The food was prepared outside under tents and brought in to the serving area then quickly disappeared on plates of hungry participants. I wasn’t going to miss out on this and picked up a large order and found a spot at a table with Big Bill and his faithful companion, little “Willy G” where I enjoyed some conversation along with a great meal. There was a singer/guitar player by the name of Mike Nyman providing some excellent tunes and entertaining the large crowd who had come out to enjoy this wonderful Community event and support a great cause. Proceeds go to the Rotary Club who make local parks wheelchair accessible. Tiny would like to thank all who came out and special thanks to Vince Goodeve and Chad from Inkternal Custom Tattoos for their contributions to this awesome event! I had to move along so I said my goodbyes and headed off still in search of the elusive sunshine. Thurst T’s Cycle I worked my way across into the wilds of Collingwood to visit with my old pal Paul Thurston and his better half Wonderful Wendy. Paul had called earlier in the week and said that he needed to talk to me and since I was already up that way, now was as good a time as any! Paul is a colourful guy who used to be a champion stunt rider and was considered to be Canada’s answer to Evel Knievel. Now he and Wendy run Thurst T’s Cycle up in Collingwood. It is a great shop and a great spot for a very dynamic couple who are very involved in the motorcycle community and are always looking to do things that are exciting and extend the motorcycling lifestyle into the Community as a whole. They were asked to be part of The Annual Wasaga Beach Rally that is happening in July of this year as part of the event has spilled over into the Colling-
wood area. Paul and Wendy jumped on the opportunity and proceeded in the normal Thurst T’s fashion. Full speed ahead and Damn the torpedoes! They have lots of great stuff planned and it looks to be a wild and wonderful event! It runs for four days, starting Thursday July 13th and they have tons of stuff crammed in every day, all day and into the night. 10 great bands like “The Carpet Frogs” “Bad to the Bone” and “Rocket Queen” have been booked to appear throughout the event on the huge stage right on Thurst T’s property. There will be a “Bikini Bake Wash on Thursday and Friday, a leather and stiletto contest. A true Texas style Barbecue will be serving up some exceptional wings and ribs, lots of vendors, an arm wrestling Competition and Earl Wilson who has won 11 consecutive Championships will be there. You can sit in the comfort of the enormous Beer Garden and take in the action. Ace cabs is going to be running a shuttle service taking guests to and from the various venues so you can enjoy your beer without having to ride. Paul is also working on providing parking with around the clock security on duty. Come on out and check them out! Oliver’s Ale House Our very own Durham Dangerous Donnie and his three piece band was booked to play at Oliver’s Ale House on Tomken Rd. in Mississauga so I figured I’d slide on in and check him out. It is a smaller band than Donnie is used to playing with but the sign of a true professional is being able to adapt and put together a group to fit the venue and make it sound great. It was an outstanding evening, the food was awesome, the beer was great, the company and hospitality was fantastic and the music just topped it all off nicely! They even put out dishes of homemade potato chips as munchies! The trio made up of a Donnie as the lead singer, an enormous stand up base and an incredible guitar player. They had close harmonies and a huge repertoire of tunes to draw from. I didn’t have the burger but I saw it on its way to the Bass player’s table! It was huge! In fact, huge doesn’t even begin to describe this beast! It was so big that there was what appeared to be a large Bowie knife standing up in the middle of it to hold it together! I thought there is no way that this slender little man is going to eat that monster. I was wrong! It didn’t stand a chance! I guess you work up one Hell of an appetite hauling that huge stand up base around! Anyhow it was a great night if you get a chance swing by Oliver’s Ale House and if Donnie Meeker and whatever size of band he’s playing in is at a spot near you do yourself a favour and check him out! I’ve hired him for gigs and would gladly hire
him again!
Fort Erie Swap Meet I gathered up the first part of our crew at Deadly Doug’s digs, consisting of Doug, his lady Flo and the lovely Miss Kitty and then headed to Burlington to round out our happy gang with the headliner, Alex Sr. Alex Jr. was out of town and couldn’t bring him so we were happy to get him there!

It was great to have him along and I know that this has always been one of his favourite events. We got there early this year and were there before the doors were open to the public and got Sr. set up at his usual spot, just inside the front door. There were a lot of people who were delighted to see him out and many came over to shake his hand and say hi! Miss Kitty and Flo took charge and helped Sr. and the pile of Mags disappeared very quickly while I wandered the Show checking out all the great deals and visiting along the way. I caught glimpses of Sean

McCooey several times throughout the day as this is his baby and he is everywhere making sure everything is going well with the vendors and preparing for the Motorcycle Teardown Competition and other attractions that our the product of his fertile imagination! There was one addition to this year’s event that I feel was long overdue and a great idea, was the beer garden and additional food area. It is certainly appreciated by myself and many others that I spoke to! I’ve long contended that these events are as much about socializing as they are about buying and selling parts. There wasn’t any 50 but Alexander Keith’s is an Ale that comes close and it went well with the sausage and it was so nice to have the choice. We would have stayed longer but Sr. tires easily these days and it was clear after a couple of hours that we should get him home so we gathered up our crew and headed off. Another great event Sean and thumbs up on the beer garden! I think it will be the thing that has people staying longer and checking out a lot more of the entertainment and other stuff that you try to inject into the show. I know for myself, after several hours of jostling around the crowded aisles and negotiating deals, I am ready to plunk my ass down and enjoy a nice cold beer and something good to eat. Up until this year we had to leave and head down the road to find a spot. Good move my friend. The extra choices of food was much appreciated as well! See you next year! Scotty’s Cycle Shoppe – June 2017 Calendar shoot It was a dull, overcast day for the most part and I even hit rain here and there on the way to the beautiful town of Strathroy. While I had met owners; Scott and Lisa on a couple of occasions at Swap Meets and had purchased the beautiful chrome Harley-Davidson emblems that grace the doors of
my F150 from Lisa a couple of years ago at the London Swap Meet. I had even been to the store to deliver Mags several times but they were closed and had never been inside the Shop itself or had any in depth conversations with either before. The property itself is very impressive! It is always neat and tidy on the outside so it really came as no great shock to find the inside in the same state. It is very organized and uncluttered throughout, which I was to discover is representative of the owners and their family. The floors were spotless and even the second building that was according to Scott “In a terrible state!” was neat and tidy. I wanted to show him picture of my shop just to give him some perspective of what messy is really all about! He and his daughter Alana were working away when I got there, but they took time to show me around and I got some shop shots promising that I would try to avoid taking pictures of the imaginary clutter! It was like having a friend with an imaginary friend. You can’t see it but go along with it! They were awesome people. Very laid back and organized. The tools were as immaculate and organized as the
rest of the place. Then Lisa showed up on her bike wearing a spiked helmet and we were ready to get the photoshoot done. It was a pretty simple shoot as the only wardrobe changes were with the helmet off or on. Lisa was great to work with and we just moved through a variety of poses. Then Alana showed up on an immaculate Sportster that used to belong to her Mom before she got her new bike. Now she and her Brother Jake, share the Sporty. This is where things got complicated because before Alana showed up
with the pretty Sporty, It was Lisa that would be the Calendar and the Cover shots and I posed her accordingly so Al and I would have a variety of poses to choose from when I downloaded the files. Now we would have to decide between mother and daughter and it could my next encounter with either interesting to see who was pissed off with whatever decision we made. Al came up with what we both thought was a creative solution and hope that it works for all concerned! I got some good family shots and then headed off to my next stop!

Hog Town Cycle Calendar Shoot This kind of thing doesn’t happen all the time in my World where I can actually plan out a whole day and have it all come together! I had two feature shoots to do for each of the next two consecutive months, both from the same area. In a perfect World that would have been scheduled and planned out
months, if not a year in advance. With me we are still usually trying to get all the moving parts in sync right up to the day of the shoot. Knowing that I had the shoot to do out in Strathroy and could get it in early enough I may be able to kill two birds with one stone if everything went just right. I had arranged for the lovely Amanda to model as she lives right in London and could meet me in Lucan after she got off work from her day job! I had stopped at Jennies Leather in Orangeville the day before and borrowed some of her great looking leather ou�its for the shoot and was all set to go as soon as Amanda got there. I rolled in early and got to sit and talk to Mike and Teresa a while discussing what was new with the shop and hearing their plans for Baconfest that is taking place on July 8/2017. This is an awesome event and the
whole Hogtown crew and the entire town of Lucan put a lot into the planning and running of it. Somewhere along the way the conversation turned to the lack of an actual Show and Shine and trophies and such and somehow I ended up agreeing to take my Show and Shine on the road to Lucan. To us old timers that should be a movie with Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. Actually I’m really looking forward to it! It is a great event that just keeps ge�ng better! Amanda showed up and did an amazing job, Mike and Teresa are great hosts and a blast to talk to! We got it done and I headed for home! More on this next issue!

One for the road I can honestly say, I’ve had just about enough of this wet shit, just saying. We’ve had what, maybe 3 to 4 days of great riding weather? Hats off to you brave ones that venture out, rain or shine, especially the ones with the big kohonas that get out onto the highway. Cagers are crazy enough without offering rain into the mix, are you high?? We’ve had an exceptional amount of rain, and with what its done to our local roads, getting our two-wheeled beauties
to a main road is somewhat of an challenge. This is where my four-wheeled beast comes into play, and I’ve made use of my lift (on the truck you gutter minds) and the tires! Big shout out to the British Military Veteran Riders that follow us in the U.K! That’s amazing. I’m a red- head gentlemen and you’ve made me blush, good job! Love to hear that you enjoy our lil mag out your way and I myself would love a pic or two of you guys with your motorbikes! One disappointing day where we missed riding was the Women’s International Ride Day that was held on May 6th. Classy Chassis had a group that planned on heading out, and we ourselves had a group of about 30 folks taking part. But the weather made sure to shit on that parade. It was discussed to cage it to lunch, but honestly, it’s the ride that gets people out. Classy did say rain or shine and offered the route travelled by cage as there was a lunch and shopping planned. We did have some beautiful ladies east of us that were granted sunshine and they took full advantage of it! These
…..with Lil Red women are the Windsisters! With purple bandanas, shirts and a whole lotta class, they were out in droves. With Linda and Maureen ge�ng pics from the Ottawa group to flash around for bragging rights, this amazing group of ladies, from Hamilton to Ottawa, got out and showed the rest of us how it’s done! With the rain taking over our part of the world, Kate, Diana and I decided to head out to Mackey HD for their 14-year celebration (there was cake!!) and we took full advantage of the sales they had to offer. Now Diana recently bought her red HD at Mackey, which she’s names Scarlett, so she was looking for bike accessories to compliment what accessories

she’s already added to her ride. Kate too, got a new ride (also bought from Mackey) and hers is a beautiful blue one that I’ve nicknamed blue thunder, but unless she comes up with a better one, I may call it Smurf! (Ok, now that I’ve read it, that sounds so wrong for a Harley!) I’ll be honest, like every place you go to try on clothes, there was a 3-piece limit to take into the changerooms. Now I’m not one to limit myself, so with 20 or so articles of clothing, I crept in and did what can only be described as

unhealthy. I was pulling on and off shirts like a woman experiencing menopause, on, off, on, off. It should be a bike event! No, bad idea, moving on. Not being shy, if someone had come to use a changeroom and as I was breaking their rules, I’d decided ahead of time to venture out and try on shirts somewhere else in the store. Thankfully, with Kate on the lookout that was not an option and we each got a few things to take home, oh and a hat, cause I’m a baseball hat kinda girl! So, an HD baseball hat was the piece de resistance. (I’m sure with this admittance, Mackey will have me on candid camera for breaking their 3-piece clothing policy in the changerooms, but I just couldn’t help myself!) We did take advantage of a beautiful weekend to get out with our group of ladies and gents. Plans were to meet at Timmies (isn’t that always the place), and decide then as to where to go to raise havoc. Now, as I was still recovering from our trip to Cuba, we got to the meeting spot just as some were gearing up. Not seeing a few of these folks during our winter months, I eagerly jumped off to greet the girls. Ahh yes, but dumb ass here has chosen to shine, not only leaving her bike on, but her lights fully lit up! Can we guess what happened? Come on, it’s me we’re talking about. Sometimes it might be safer if I leave my helmet on ALL the time…just saying. After the group jumped in to help flag down a truck for a boost (bikers are the best buddies ever and some cagers are all too eager to help a biker in distress, oh and did I mention that I left it in gear! OMG I need to get out more!!), we set out to hit MotoSport Plus in Kingston for their test ride days. Plus, a free bbq and we all know my stance on bbq! If I had a sibling, I’d sell ‘em to get to delicious, free food. These guys did not disappoint, and I was honestly surprised at the number of bikes that showed up. As we helped ourselves to burgers, hot dogs (are those potato chips over there??) we watched as a caravan of riders came in and out to eat the food, buy accessories or try out a new ride. We had a pretty big group of riders on this day, and we were out for most of it! You can’t leave bikers with no direction and a set of keys and leave us to our own devices, we may not come back! Besides the bathroom breaks for our ladies with bladders like tea bags, (Stole it Ellen!) it was straight riding, with a few lost roads in between. I did get to wear one of my new Riders Mag shirts. Recently, our very own Squirrel and the lovely Ashley have modelled the new Riders Mag shirts and I gotta say ladies, these are flattering!!! I wear mine a lot, as in I gotta get another one, and Gentlemen, if you’re like Mike and you look delicious in black, I suggest the long sleeves for the days you may not want a heavy jacket. As the warm weather is approaching, I try to get out to ride daily. Wednesdays is usually with the girls from the
Windsisters, and we hit up meeting spots in an around Trenton and then venture out to ride a random chosen road. A recent Wednesday however, it was only Terry and I that had our rides out, and after pulling in to our meeting spot, I caught up with Derek (one of the co-organizers for Quinte Ride for Paws) and John from the Brotherhood of Bikers with a few of the boys out looking for some fun. There was even a rider from the Outlaw MC that rode in and made his way through the group. These nights when there’s so many riders that show up at an impromptu location are some of the most memorable. Speaking with Derek, it was nice to see he could ride again after his latest surgeries. He had some recent leg/ foot surgeries that have kept him grounded and homebound, which for a rider is like a death sentence. So, he of course, when he came over to say hi, he turned off my lights and my bike…again! This might be why Mike recently bought a portable battery pack! By the way, our beautiful blond crazy legs of a woman Tam is at it again. She’s taken note of new riders on our base in Trenton, and is out there, while working, ge�ng our Mags in your mailbox, on your bike, in your fence! Her ride is coming, the Quinte ride for paws poker run being held on June 11th. Great food as always, a fun route to play
poker and vendors to lighten your pocketbook. I’m guessing John from the Brotherhood was busy planning his upcoming Brotherhood of Bikers Crew Show & Shine being held on July 2nd (not July 3rd as previously posted in our ever informative What’s Shakin’ pages). This year the venue has changed to the A&W in Belleville, and they will have former NHL Enforcer Shawn Antoski for a Meet and Greet. Shawn created a Facebook page I’ve recently spoken about called “Fear Nothing”, and with mental health being recognized more often now than before, I encourage you to have a look. And after his attempt to lure me out (honestly, I can be lured with candy or motorcycle parts!), Mike and I are eyeing the weather for a road trip west to catch up for some good eatin’! Oh, and to catch up with our buds out that way, Glenn and Wendy, and hopefully some of you readers that want in on the fun. We’re also eyeing the Show & Shine being held at Oliver’s Ale House on June 25th. Warmer weather is coming and weekends are now being fully booked, with two or three biker events to attend each weekend! I’ve yet to get my angel bell (as it needs to be gifted to you for your angel protection while riding) so I’m thinking of heading over to see Pastor Dave at the Kawartha Bikers Church Bike Blessing on May 21st in Peterborough. They have a great ride route planned after so if it’s anything like their Show & Shine, it’ll be well worth the trip. Ok, with summer fast approaching, these are the upcoming events that we’re hoping to attend (and want to catch up with you there!) Classy Chassis holds numerous events throughout the summer, so it comes as no surprise that they are celebrating their much-anticipated, 11th Anniversary BBQ Bash on May 27th. HD ROC have been asked to sell 50/50 tickets, half going to the lucky winner and the other half going to the HD ROC Sick Kids Fund. (If you want to know more about that fund or HD ROC, check out their Facebook page) Live music, the food truck, vendors and stunt riders, it’s definitely a busy place to be. The Telus Ride for Dad has a few Ride for Dad events that were looking to participate in. The Kingston/Quinte Ride for Dad is being held on May 27th at CFB Kingston, Thompson Drill Hall, 7 D’Artisan Road, June 3rd it’s in Ottawa at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, and June 10th it’ll be in Port Perry, where are friends Glenn and Wendy participate in annually. (A quick sidenote, we’re even considering the Watercraft Ride for Dad as an extra bit of fun) June 3rd is the All-Ways Apsley Motorcycle Rendezvous, and last year’s event was a lot of fun. Inside and outside places to be, with food, games and sometimes firefighters competing! This next one is a biggie. I mean there’s riders everywhere! You want goosebumps, this definitely does it! June 3rd is the 9th Annual Heroes Highway Ride. Starting along the Highway of Heroes, it’s destination ends at Port Hope with a huge vendor area, The Poppy Memorial Portraits of Honour and Veteran’s that I encourage you to stop and get to know. These gentlemen are heroes in my eyes! Please don’t forget Canada’s largest demonstration of support for those who served. On June 4th, Birth of a Nation Ride National Memorial Ride honours two historic anniversaries. Canada’s 150, and Vimy Ridge 100th. Truly an epic event. And ladies!!! Burrbilly Girls weekend is from June 1618. A whole weekend of riding, eating, meeting new girls and did I mention..riding! We’re looking to cover even more of the eastern area, from Durham to as far away spots as Quebec. I always bring Mags, L’il Red vinyls and stickers, Riders Mag pins and patches, as well as my colourful personality everywhere I go (even in my truck) so catch up with me at an event! The 6th Annual Ontario Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs & Independents Conference was an enlightening experience for all who attended. The speakers entertained the audience by sharing many insights and advice regarding four topics which are of great concern to our membership. The legal guidance put forward by our guests will shape our focus and strategies for the immediate future. The OCC&I are moving on three possible game-changers that will suffocate the current campaign of oppression and discrimination by law enforcement. The harassment of bikers is a worldwide occurrence, which is fuelled by an ever-alarming mandate of avarice, discrimination and dictatorship practiced by government lackeys in an effort to manage and control the populace – i.e. to eliminate the practices of free thinking, free speech and freedom of choice. Ours is a lifestyle built upon those values. Our relatives sacrificed in distant lands to preserve those freedoms – they did NOT fight and die in remote shitholes to permit our rights and freedoms to be dashed aside in the quest to create a population of sheep. In April, the media was plump with stories of the efforts and sacrifices made by Canadians during two world wars. The cold, stone monuments are huge . . . necessary to record the scores of thousands who fell in defense of our freedom. Many of you are veterans and many of you, like me, are members of a family whose young men postponed their pursuit of happiness - in order to ensure that we (their offspring) enjoy a life free from oppression. Sadly, their sacrifices are now being ignored (except for the lip service noted during memorials) in the pursuit of political correctness and political ambition. The Biker Culture is the last bastion of pure freedom still actively repelling the forces of oppression. The establishment dogs relate that bikers (particularly 1% ‘ers) are gangsters, but they are twisting the designation to justify their aggression. IMHO, the quote that best describes our culture is “People confuse the outlaw and the criminal. Some outlaws commit crimes, but the real outlaw isn’t a criminal by trade.” George Christie from his book ‘Exile on Front Street’. The Merriam/Webster Dictionary describes discrimination as . . . “the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually”. Does this description accurately depict the current campaign against our lifestyle? Fuckin’ right it does, Eh Ollie? Perhaps a definition of our culture is necessary in the interest of clarity? Although biker discrimination is a very heady and emotional subject, there is also another major concern for bikers – survival while enjoying our common lifestyle activity. May was Motorcycle Awareness Month and already there have been many casualties. The OCC&I strongly encourage all bikers to exercise caution while rolling asphalt. While cautionary tactics are a necessary defensive move, there are other precautions you can do to minimize the carnage prevalent to Ontario bikers. Over the years, I have often encouraged my riding brothers to conduct impartial discussions amongst their non-riding acquaintances. Although, I have never actually polled my readers, I have often pondered if the message is being disseminated? How about you? Have you done your part to enlighten your co-workers, relatives, and communities about the dangers facing bikers? Communication breeds interest which raises awareness, Eh Ollie? Of equal importance is the necessity to be sensitive to the many unseen souls that occupy your bitch seat. Although not physically affected by your actions while riding, they equally shoulder the burden of the consequences should a mishap occur. Most of us possess a social conscience, particularly when it comes to motorcycle fatalities. I, along with many of you, am filled with rage whenever I see a motorcycle accident reported on the evening news or posted on social media. Nothing is more repugnant to me then the specter of a twisted piece of two-wheeled junk lying on its side. Some accidents can’t be prevented but we have to get out the message ‘cuz it just might cause a driver to take a second look or stay off the cell phone - which could prevent another unfortunate loss of everything priceless to a biker’s family waiting at home. Scott and Lisa Alkins opened this shop in September of 2016 and haven’t regretted that decision for a minute as they have turned it into a true family business. Scott who is a licensed mechanic and certified Harley Technician started out working at his Dad’s service station until an opportunity came up to work for Kellogg’s in London where he spent the next 23 years. He had developed a real strong interest in motorcycles and having a mechanical background it all started to fall in place. He started working on his own bike then he would help out friends and then more friends and friends of friends and soon found himself doing a lot of work on a lot of bikes and he loved it! Figuring that this might be a good thing to develop and take to the next level, he signed up for the 15 week course at Fairview College in Alberta. It was expensive but he felt that it was an investment in the future. He then landed a job at Hog Town Cycle in Lucan where Mike and Teresa found him to be a good Tech and quick study and taught him much about operating a Motorcycle Shop. He and Lisa speak very highly of them as they don’t consider themselves to be rivals but good friends who are in the same line of work! When his Dad retired from his established Tool Truck business, the plan was that Scott would take it over. He tried but Scott ’s heart just wasn’t in it as the cost of inventory and hours involved just wasn’t what he wanted. He took some time off and rode his motorcycle across Canada and where he did some soul searching and when he returned he and Lisa discussed his idea of opening their own motorcycle Shop right there in Strathroy. Lisa shared Scott ’s passion for motorcycles and riding and thought that this might be an idea that would work. The search was on for a suitable location and when they spotted a listing for two buildings on a real estate website, checked them out and bought them both and were on their way to making their dreams a

reality. Lisa is a little dynamo and does everything and anything in the shop like oil changes, inventory, parts, detailing bikes, does pickup and delivery of bikes and whatever else needs doing, leaving Scott free to wrench and get the jobs done! She certainly isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. One of the first adjustments she had to make was to cut her once long beautiful fingernails as they couldn’t take the wear and tear that the job entailed. Their daughter Alana is also interested in motorcycles and took over her Mom’s bike when she got a new one. She works alongside her Mom and Dad in the shop, is learning very quickly and proving herself to be more than capable mechanic in her own right. They are keeping track of her hours in case she wants to start an apprenticeship in the future. Also part of the dream team is their 21 year old son, Jake, who is a student at Fanshawe College in London, helps out around the shop as well, looking after the books and doing clerical duties and he and his sister actually share the Sportster that was their Mom’s first bike. To call it a dream team isn’t an exaggeration but I think a fair description of a close-knit family unit all working together to make the business a success. I know a lot of people who would love for that to be a reality for themselves and their families! Their love for their business is evident when they talk about it and the relationship that has been forged with their customers. They are thrilled with the way that the local motorcycle community has accepted them and there is a good blend of socializing and business relationships. Scott isn’t trying to set the World on fire and set unrealistic, gruelling schedules that would eventually burn him and his family out and take
the pleasure out of the business. He works at his own comfortable pace, preferring to do the job properly the first time as he knows that shoddy work, no matter how quickly it is done, is still just shoddy work and that isn`t what Scotty`s Cycle Shoppe does. Treating their customers properly and fairly at reasonable fair prices has earned them a solid reputation and is responsible for the steady growth that they have been experiencing. Scotty’s Cycle Shoppe has a great small town vibe and a relaxed atmosphere to it. They are looking to develop the second building into a combination storage area/lounge area where their customers and friends can relax at the end of the day, listen to some tunes or just talk. While they prefer working on Harley-Davidsons they can do work on other makes and models. They do all the usual Maintenance and repairs, tires brakes batteries and whatever else is necessary to get your bike on the road and keep it there. They also do free pickup and delivery. Aside from the Bike Shop, Lisa also has a Home travel agency and she is looking to package motorcycle tours combined with Motorcycle rentals, lodging and so on. She had just got back from the Florida Keys the day before I got there to do the shoot. They are great people as individuals and a great family running a fantastic family business where they appreciate their customers and treat them like family. Well, here it is, June issue and I’ve found out that I don’t have a monopoly on the Village Idiot! Shortly a�er the deadline for the last issue, the T.V. news started babbling about the Mayor of Bathurst proclaiming that he is aggressively trying to ban all motorcycle “gangs” from the province of
board, but also illegal in accordance with the Canadian Bill of Rights! These are only a small sample of the shit being spread by the news media in that area, but in a small province news travels fast no matter how wrong it is! Even down in Miramichi, the Miramachine Riding Club out for a fair weather scoot were stopped and harassed by their local L.E. resulting in no charges, but a free police escort for much of their ride! Go figure! Maybe we should present a bill, forbidding the mayor of Bathurst from watching “fake biker shows’ on TV, along with a formal televised apology to the Darksiders Northshore M.C.
Collect 1 Years worth of Atlantic Jeff ’s cartoons and get a chance to Win some ‘Mag Swag.’ New Brunswick. This proclamation ballooned into many other broadcasts and multiple news articles in many N.B. newspapers. This reporter was thinking that maybe the Mayor had lost his job (and mind) and was looking for a job as writer for that bullshit, fake “Sons of Anarchy” sitcom, so I checked it out with my Brothers of the Darksiders Motorcycle Club in Bathurst. While in Bathurst, I found out interesting shit that needs to be reported on: In the mayor’s sick mind, stated these motorcycle “gangs” will destroy tourism in the area. After a quick check with local hotels and motels, business is always “booming” when the boys are in town! No problems! An “informant” reported that the Club House was involved in drug trafficking in the area. After another quick check, it was found that the “informant” was charged with drug trafficking. (no club members) More research showed that a local teacher was fired for being a Club member and only rehired by resigning from the Club. This was not only a bullshit move by the school

Although, on thr 29th of April, while attending swap meet in Riverview, I noticed 4 or 5 different club patches go into the washroom, apparently to “have it out!” The good
news is that after they “had it out”, they flushed the urinals, zipped up, washed their hands and out, back to the party! (Please don’t show this to the mayor or we’ll be hearing more crap on TV about the “impending biker war”! Now seriously, the Boss and I did make it out to the Bacchus Swap Meet in Riverview (We made it on time this trip!). On arrival we amazed to see the whole road lined with bikes and riders on both sides! Inside it was packed with people buying their needed parts, pieces, garb & bling to get a start on this riding season. Between Nova Scotia Rob, Ian Carter and I, we managed to scrape up enough Mags to spread them around the show. In our travels around the booths we managed to talk to many brothers including (not in any order), Machine, Sideshow and Charlie (organizer of the meet) (Bacchus MC), Stephane, Adam and crew (Darksiders MC), Robin and crew (H.A.M.C.) the crew from Miramachine RC, the crew from B.A.C.A. and too many others for this alcohol embalmed mind to remember. Just a note, Bruce Kingley rode away on my new bike that I was sure I had the winning ticket for! Congrats! All in all, a great show great turnout and great weather. Thanks guys, see you next year.

June is the month when most riders can comfortably get their rides permanently out of their winter storage. Some have lots of miles in while others, especially in Nova Scotia are still waiting for the rain to let up and temperatures get a bit higher than 10 Celsius. I hit snow coming over Nutby Mountain May 9th. It was so cold I was worried the last 15km or so I wasn’t going to make it because the carbs kept freezing up and the bike was sputtering and spi�ng and I had to keep her revved up so she didn’t quit on me. One of the biggest early season events in Nova Scotia is the Blessing of the Bikes held at Victoria Park right in the centre of the town, Hub of Nova Scotia, Truro. Victoria Park is a 1,000 acre Eden initially established in 1887 by a 25 acre donation made to the town. It is a heavily wooded old growth forest with beautiful walking trails that wind their way through the hills and valley mimicking the path that the Lepper Brook has carved over centuries of erosion. The park who was named after the monarch Queen Victoria (1888) has regal look offs and paths that wind around the tops of the hills looking down on the brook and a series of cascading falls, especially impressive during early season runoff. It is also known for its “Jacob’s Ladder”, I double-dog-dare-ya to run up that with a keg of beer over your shoulder.
This year the event met with a bit of controversy when a couple of individuals along with the power of social media began to suggest that it be postponed because of the potential “monsoon” rains that were expected on the 6th. Long time organizer and Grand Puba of the event affectionately known by most as “Animal” (Mr. Loyd Rector) was not fazed by the controversy because he knew in his own mind and those loyal to the event that NO MATTER

THE WEATHER THE TRURO BLESSING OF THE BIKES ALWAYS GOES RAIN OR SHINE!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! The event began in May 1989, and has been running non-stop since. It is always on the first Saturday of May and has over the years at its most 2500 bikes and at its worst 10. This year because of the wet weather and maybe a little confusion caused by the controversy, they attracted a very respectable 116 bikes. Bike 116 was one of my favourites! This BMW replica was ridden by 4 year old Rylee Lynds sporting her awesome pink Angry Birds helmet. She put a lot of smiles on some grizzled faces. Great job of parenting Mom and Dad get them interested in bikes early! Wanting to get my mags under cover quickly so they didn’t get wet I arrived early and as I was standing talking to one of the organizers I noticed a guy pushing his bike up the long road. Poor bastard I thought, broken down and the season has barely begun. Made my way over to the guy to find out his story and my concern was quickly replaced with admiration. This young man, Donnie Moore, proceeded to tell me that he was pushing his bike to the event, and from a considerable distance because of a promise he had made to his Dad. His bike was not licensed or insured, and he himself was not yet a licensed driver. He is to take his course this month to get certified and it all comes from the promise he made to his Dad that he would get his bike and himself legal and he would ride in his Dad’s memory who recently passed away from cancer. What greater testament to a father and his impact on a son. God Bless Dad, Good on you Donnie! After all had arrived a few speeches were made, dona-
tions given and a few people recognized all the while a few times it actually felt like the sun was coming out. Doug Bea�e lay evangelist with the Christian Motorcycle Association gave the Blessing of the Bikes and another year was in the books. Special thanks to all those people behind the scenes who every year makes the event such a success, you all know who you are. Thanks to the Town of Truro and Mayor Bill Mills and Rec Director Doug MacKenzie for the use of the park and a shout out to the Colchester Ground Search and Rescue for the dry place for the Riders Mags and the hot coffee! Had a nice little trip up to Moncton and attended the Riverview Swap Meet. Saw a few familiar faces, met a few new ones and scored a great deal on a few items, especially a nice leather jacket for “Princess” my better half who has to order from the kids section at Sally’s leather shop Riding Along in Sackville (also a distributor for our Mag). Great to meet up with Jeff and his main squeezef again handed out a few magazines and told a few stories or should I say lies. Busy time of year in Nova Scotia with June and early July filling up with lots of events. There’s a Swap Meet June 10th down on the South Shore on Hwy. 103 at the Michelin Social Club (10-3PM) The Motor Mavens are at the Emera Centre in North Sydney on June 17th from 10-4 PM and of course on the same day the Devil’s Half Acre is happening in Kentville at the Kings Arm Pub starting at 9 AM and scheduled to run until 6PM. Not necessarily a b”Bike” event, but there may be a few bikers at the Pembroke Blues Festival in Upper Stewiacke from the 23rd-25th, I’m sure Nova Scotia Rob will be taking in a few sets for sure. Don’t forget the 8th Hussar’s Mullins Mile Show and Shine on the 25th of June as well. Have a great June, and keep the rubber side up!

March 30th and I talked to a friend about having a table along side of their booth at the 3rd annual Charlottetown Cycle Swap Show. Blake said come to the clubhouse and meet the guys and I said I’d be glad to come up. So I got in touch with
Ron and Merv and they said they’d come along. So April 1st we went up to the woodbridge hangaround club and met the guys. They have a good bunch of guys from some other clubs on PEI. They are looking for a better way of ge�ng what they want in the way of their club.

Its Saturday April 15th 7:30 am, and I’m at the eastlink center swap meet. All set up and ready to go with the riders mags on the table. All set to meet new people. Blake came to see me, but they put me across the room from them, right beside the dying breed mc so Im in good shape. The show is sponsored by Red Rock Harley Davidson and they have some nice bikes t the show along with parts and helmets. I met a lady from new Brunswick who has a table full of jewelry and other goods. She has 4 stores and has the riders mags in the so nice to meet Sharon. The wharf rat rally is here and they have a table across from me. Im sure Atlantic Jeff knows all about them. They have all the information you need to know to get to the party. All in all its been a good day. Plenty to see at this show. I took a lot of pictures and talked to a lot of people. My daughter, Jenn, has been a lot of help at the show. I took a walk and found the villians table so I stopped to talk and Buy Jenn a support tshirt. We left the show early because I had to go and meet someone. Well I just got home and was trading my jeep for my bike when Blake called and said I won the 50/50 draw. He said he would see me back at the clubhouse... what a way to end a great day! 325.00 will take me on a lot of poker runs! When I got to the clubhouse I was informed that two clubs in Charlottetown and summerside had been raided. Well that turned the mood in the club so I decided to go so they could talk. Last month I said that the sun was shining and that the spring clean-up had begun but hell we’re still waiting for the heat to be turned on… Mid-May and my furnace is still going on in the morning as I leave for work…wow, I hope this isn’t a sign of the summer to come. In any case, we’ll make the best of it as the riding season is upon us and it’s time to get out there and put some miles on those scoots. Although bike activities here in the best part of the province, being Northern Ontario, are still far and few between, it hasn’t stopped people from heading out for great rides. Whether you ride Manitoulin Island or the Hyw 11 corridor through the tri-towns coming back up weaving through the Muskoka region, the North has lots to offer. I did see some pictures of a great looking bike that was created by a local artist to which I have been in contact with and looking forward to meeting up with in order to snap a few shots of my own to feature in the Mag to simply show people out there that we do have great talent in the north, that we don’t always have to go south. I must admit that we, like most place, have our fair share of “not so great talent” that still think they are the best according to the prices they charge. Well enough of that… Biker Profiling (education purposes) Before I get into this section, I urge everyone to read and understand clearly all the words that are written here and not just the ones you want to read and understand. It’s hard to believe that in these times, people are not realizing what they’re doing in their own back yards and yet render judgement on other people? I’m talking about all the stereotyping and profiling that older generations, as well as some of today’s media as well as people trusted with authority positions, have brainwashed the younger generation and improperly educated people to believe. Well I’m here in order to do my fair share of educating those who want to listen. I guarantee you that you’ll be pleasantly surprise at what proper information can do to your point of view if you have an open mind. There are still those people that talk the talk and try to walk the walk but when offered the opportunity to have a look for themselves that what they has been taught is not always true and correct, still chose to turn a blind eye and find all kinds of lame ass excuses to avoid the truth. This is not what I consider being open minded. I’m not saying that there are not any rotten apples in today’s society, but it’s like everything else, the bad ones make the strongest impressions to which is very often the wrong impression. Give an opportunity for the good ones to show you the truth, you’ll see that it’s not like that at all. I will stake my reputation on it! To those who really know me, will understand, those who think they know me, are questioning themselves now and those who don’t know me, are stereotyping me now….WOW…. Did you know that it’s not illegal to belong to a motorcycle club? I’ll go even one further and introduce you to an individual to whom I’ve had the pleasure of reading his research on this matter as well as permission to quoting his material in my articles. “David “Double D” Devereaux” a motorcycle rights activist from Washington State, and a leading advocate for laws addressing the issue of motorcy-
cle profiling in America. Double D spearheaded the effort in Washington as spokesperson for the movement. Double D represents the Washington State COC and US Defenders, NCOM Legislative Task Force, US Defenders National Office, BOLT, and he is a member or supporter of ABATE, the MRF, and the AMA. Here’s what he has to say on the subject: “The truth. The truth about outlaw motorcycle clubs. Not the version you see on TV. It’s not Sons of Absurdity or Gangland. It’s not rape, pillage, and organized crime. But it’s not the church choir or the Boy Scouts either. The truth is that self-identified outlaw motorcycle clubs are rebellious, anti-establishment, and very critical of law enforcement and government abuses of discretion. Motorcycle clubs, including outlaw motorcycle clubs, are also genuinely dedicated to charity and fundraising for bikers in need. The entire culture is based on the concepts of loyalty, honor, and respect. But make no mistake. Do not take kindness for weakness. Verbal disrespect will not get you shot, stabbed, or killed. That would require a physical threat to person or loved one and most likely in self-defense. However, getting smacked for running your mouth is not outside the realm of possibility. Motorcycle club culture has been heavily influenced by veterans returning from war. World War II veterans first. Then the explosion of clubs following Vietnam solidified outlaw motorcycle clubs as part of American culture. Rebellious and looking for acceptance not given by a post-

Vietnam America, veterans formed motorcycle clubs that created an environment of brotherhood and support outside of mainstream society. Outlaw motorcycle clubs embraced the outlaw mythology and the role of anti-establishment rebels. Equating the term “outlaw” with “criminal” is purely a law enforcement conception embraced by a sensationalized media. Reality does not justify the claim. Sure there are criminals and felons in some outlaw motorcycle clubs. But no more so than law enforcement or most other large communities. In fact, more police officers are charged and convicted of felonies every year than members of outlaw motorcycle clubs. Whether you profile or stereotype people against their belief, their color, their religion or what they wear on their backs, what you’re doing is, in my opinion, morally wrong. Go back up a few paragraphs to where I talk about refusing to be open minded. Now that being said, I’m going one step further as the society out in the biker world is changing and people need to be educated by the truth. Here’s another section of Double “D” column that peaked my interest in view of what’s happening in and around this great country: “Law enforcement says anything positive 1% clubs do is intended as a smokescreen for illegal activity. This fundamental misperception ignores one of the most important functions of the motorcycle club community. Charity and social activism are a driving force of the biking and club community. Every 1% club has fundraisers and benefits for Veterans, Cancer victims, toys runs for children, and to benefit motorcycle accident victims in the community. This is not a smokescreen. It is genuine and tangible activism.” Please take the time and educate yourselves properly before your render judgement and make all kinds of false accusations. Clearly, if the opportunity presents itself for you to have a better view at the lifestyle, do not deprive yourself by turning down the invite. Trust me, just because a friendship hand has reached out to you, makes you in no way part of anything except a friend. Don’t make anything more out of it than what it really is…. a friend willing to share something that they find important. Thanks Danny “Double D” for your inspiring words and great work on this subject matter. I look forward to sharing more of your column to help people educate themselves with something closer to the truth than what they are fed by society. One last note on this subject is that I’d like to remind some people that a motorcycle club is not a “gang” some media sources are lying to you. Being rebellious and anti-establishment does not equate to criminality. In fact protecting anti-establishment speech and association is the highest priority of a free society. Northern Ontario Biker Friendly White List For the past few months, I have been omi�ng this section but feel the need to bring it back as again people’s negative opinion on the lifestyle has showed its ugly face and it is only with continued reminders that we can stop this from happening once and for
all. Last year we had a number of biker friendly establishments mentioned here and I would like to take a moment to thank them all for their continued support. There are several similar lists out there such as my friend Rooster Rider on Facebook and with the Mag, which has one going for the south and if I’m not mistaken is also tied in with the Ontario Confederation of Clubs (OCC) that we all belong to, working for “One Common Cause” as well as the one in The Rider’s Mag. This month’s candidates would have to be without a doubt, Signature’s Restaurant in Chelmsford, Buzzy Brown’s Brasserie in Sudbury’s south end, and The 84 Station in Sudbury’s downtown core. These are not the only biker friendly establishments as I’ve been to quite a few more. I personally thank you all for being such great hosts and educated business owners. We look forward to going to all of your locations soon now that the riding season is upon us. So here we are at the end of yet another great monthly edition of the Mag and like always, would like to leave you with a few words that might be of some inspiration to people and total hogwash to others…”Judging a person without really knowing them, does not define who they are. It defines who you really are” Ride Hard but Safe Out There! Support the corporate pigs by insuring your bike. Your notice has arrived in the mail. Once again it is time to renew your insurance for the year. And once again the premium price has elevated to an unbelievable price. The cost to insure your bike is higher than the cost to insure your primary vehicle. Let`s wind back to 2014. That would be about the time that our corrupt liberal government claims to have helped the poor working class with this growing price problem. Following that expected failure to represent the working class. The insurance companies and their filthy rich shareholders have won another battle. We discover that we all have less coverage and the premiums continue to elevate. The insurance business has been so lucrative that all our banks have jumped on that money train. Banks that make profits of 3 to 4 billion per quarter (again off the backs of the working class) could foresee the profits in the insurance scam. Good news for their filthy rich shareholders. Here is an example of our struggle. - 40 years of riding bike on what you may dare to call streets and highways. - 3 harassment tickets in that time period for helmet
and exhaust pipes. - Riding a 2012 street Glide. The insurance renewal premium price comes in at $1200.for the year. (If you’re covered by Intact, start calling for a cheaper deal) It is obvious that our corrupt government is still in bed with the greedy corporations and shareholders. We require a major change in our country. Like a political party, that does not gobble up all the money slop out of the trough along with the corporations of rich pigs. I know we usually say things like April showers bring May flowers and other stuff but this year those showers were accompanied by many May showers. They brought the eastern Ontario & western Quebec region some of the worst flooding in recent memory and created havoc for literally thousands of homes! I am always tossing platitudes at you especially one that when our brothers and sisters are at their worst, it requires that we be at our best! Rest assured the members of our regions motorcycle community rose to the challenge. Many riders volunteered to fill sandbags and help build dikes as well as lend generators & extra sump pumps to try and hold off the rising flood waters! People went in with trailers and picked up the motorcycles of friends so they could move them to a safer place until the flooding was over. Many bikers opened up their homes to fellow riders and their families when they had to abandon their homes. I know lots of people did similar things but I felt proud of the bikers of eastern Ontario & western Quebec, much the same as I felt about the
bikers who stayed to try and help their brothers & sisters out in Fort McMurray last year during the fires. I am pretty sure that when the water has gone down and the final tally of the damage and destruction is known,

bike clubs in various areas will be organizing all sorts of rides and events in support of those who have lost everything and need help to get back on their feet. For all of you who did whatever you could to help others, a special thanks for being who you are and your generosity. On the last Sunday in April a number of riders including members of area clubs like BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse), the Dedicated Few RC, Blue Knights, the Retreads and The Celtic Brotherhood participated in the City of Ottawa’s Official Proclamation of May being Motorcycle Awareness Month. Much like last year the morning started off with overcast skies and there certainly was a nip in the air but none the less riders came out in support and there were a number of information tables set up in the plaza. Some belonging to various clubs and Michel Dupuis from the Casselman, 2804 Dice Run that happens on May 28th. I intend to participate in this ride. There was also a table from the Safer Roads Ottawa division of the City of Ottawa . It was manned by Rob Wilkinson who wears many different hats in his job working for the city. He has been instrumental in assisting SOAR (Society of Ottawa Area Riders) of eastern Ontario in ge�ng safety information and projects initiated in the hopes reducing motorcycle accidents so that fewer motorcycle riders become an accident statistic. After a few quick speeches from members of SOAR including chairman Mike Bossio, Perry Montgomery from the Dedicated Few RC and myself, there was a demonstration by a couple of members of the Ottawa Police, Motorcycle division. They not only offered some good information on ways of preventing being hit by cars on the road that just aren’t watching out for motorcycles. The big hit with the crowd was their demonstration on how a single rider can safely get their motorcycle back upright in case a situation came up where you had to lay it down. Motorcycles are much heavier than years ago and add to that the growing number of women who ride, I was pleased to see how many were eager to step forward and actually learn the skill. I think what really amazes people is they forget that dealing with motorcycles is all about balance and leverage and has very little to do with strength. SOAR hopes to be able to get instructors to show representatives of the clubs and then those members can pass the knowledge on. Like I say, Bikers helping Bikers!
As part of their display the members of The Celtic Brotherhood brought one of the “Chopper” tricycles they use in their Busted Bucket Challenge to increase brain injury awareness. A number of people were eager to take the trike for a spin but when they put on the special optics to simulate some of the symptoms of head injury it definitely slowed them down as they tried to navigate a figure eight pattern. I want to mention that it was good to see an info table for the Retreads MC. in which membership is restricted to riders who are over 40 years old. If you want learn more just Google Retreads MC Ontario and take a cyber-visit of their site and see if it appeals to you. The day before the City Hall event I was in B.A Machine Performance Cycle paying them a visit and while there had a chat with Yves Brisbois of the Captial City Bikers Church who had just returned from the EY Center where the church had set up a display at a hot rod & muscle car show that was relatively new to Ottawa. I know many bikers, like myself, are also closet hot-rod freaks so when things were finished at City Hall a number of us took a run over to take a look at the show. Bikers Church had done the event the previous year and hoped that there might be a growing motorcycle component to it. Ottawa area riders could use something like that now. Speed Trix Motorcycles was there with a number of their custom fabricated bikes, but there wasn’t really much there for the motorcycle crowd. I will be trying to set up a meeting with the promoter soon to see if we can’t try and get a larger representation of motorcycles. If it all works out, at some point you hopefully will see ads for this event in our Mag and I would look forward to se�ng up a booth there for readers to come by. In keeping with tradition the first Saturday in the month of May was the Annual Capital City Bikers Church Swap Meet. Numbers were down probably due to it pouring rain for most of the day there but there was was also the possibility that many people were busy dealing with the whole flood issue. There were still well over 700 people who turned out to participate. The church always has lots of their members on hand to help vendors get set up and as in years past as everyone was ge�ng settled in you could heard Hillbilly’s voice every so often come over the microphone reminding everyone that the church was providing free breakfast. Once we had the Mag and TCB tables set up I took the opportunity to do a little walking around and see who was there and what deals there might be available that I really shouldn’t be spending my money on but that’s what swap meets are all about.
One set of tables that I always hover over like a moth to a flame are those belonging to Brother Doug Taylor and his son James. These two are always involved lots of projects and they don’t limit their custom building to just bikes as they also dabble in the occasional muscle car. Safe to say that they didn’t disappoint as they had an array of parts and accessories available. Our neighbors this year were some of the crew from the Ottawa Chapter of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) and we had some great conversations about events and rides that we will be supporting each other at over the summer. Big Bird and some of the other BACA members have been active in the SOAR meetings and helping to rebrand it. One of the best parts of the Swap Meet is that you see a lot of familiar faces some of whom you haven’t seen since riding season ended last Fall. Many of them head south for the winter and so for many of us this is a chance to catch up.

SMMC have kindly offered to be extra hands for The Celtic Brotherhood’s Awareness Ride for Brain Injury being held on June 10th. Like the saying goes, “Brothers helping Brothers.” The Motor Maids MC headed up by Nancy Maloney and in keeping with tradition stopped by before things got busy and dropped off a container of her sinful mini-butter tarts that she brings each year. I am never sure of which I enjoy more, the tarts themselves

or hearing Grinder, aka Mike Maloney, her husband whining about how she got them out of the house before he could raid them but in any event it is nice to have them both back from down south and home to be a part of our summer because it just wouldn’t be the same without them. I was surprised and pleased to see Animal, aka Roger Levert, set up with a few tables of swap. He had to deal with some serious health issues over the winter so much so that he didn’t hold his annual swap meet at the legion on the west Quebec side. Roger was also one of the original founders of the National Memorial Ride which this year, because of it being the 150th Anniversary of Canada, has been enlarged. This year it will include runs coming in from Kingston and other areas to meet up. You should still be able to get info on it from their ad in the Mag but if not then get in touch with me and I will pass on the particulars. I covered the original NMR quite often over the years and hopefully will cover at least the Ottawa part this year again. Perry & Geneane Montgomery of the Dedicated Few RC came up from Cornwall for the day and I am looking forward to taking part in their Ride for the Children’s Treatment Center taking place on Saturday May 27th in Cornwall. Last year there was a large number of the BACA, Ottawa Chapter, there to show their support because the center deals with children. I did see a lot of Ottawa riders who came down last year including some of the TCB and I hope to see even more patches there this year. Of the familiar faces I didn’t expect to see were those of Dave Neals, Pastor of the Kawartha Bikers Church & Larry Pooler, who is the promoter of the twice yearly Peterborough Swap Meet. I can’t tell how many decades I have known Dave but it must be near the half century mark and many decades ago I used to do some of Larry’s Bike Shows and still have a couple of awards from some of them hanging on a wall somewhere. To say I was surprised and pleased to see the both of them is an understatement. Larry came down to see if he might find vendors that would be interested in doing his show and I certainly would recommend it if you were si�ng on a lot of swap. Over the course of the day I had visits from people like my 2 ‘roses’ Marie-Paule Phillion & Lucie Guilbault, Big Kerry Anderson (who is looking a little less big these days) most likely thanks to Joanne and Mr. BoneZ from ARM (Association of Recovering Motorcyclists) who mentioned they will be having their 3rd Annual Poker Run & Charity BBQ on July 29th in Smiths Falls so look for more information in next month’s issue of the Mag. Another surprise visit at the meet was Peri & Tim Poirier. Their shop is open on Saturdays and busy as hell but I should have known that Tim would have to come to look for parts! Damned if he didn’t leave smiling with some goodies! Our friend John Gibson of the 6*0*1 MC stopped by to say hello and a bonus surprise for the boys in The Celtic Brotherhood was a visit by our Brother
Mac & the lovely Fran. Mac has been on leave to take care of family issues because we never could have imagined that one day we would be looking after our parents who looked after us. Last but not least I think I mentioned that Snax had mentioned one time if he didn’t get his picture in the Mag he might stop reading it, now I know that isn’t true because how else would he keep up on what is going on with the biker communities across Ontario if he didn’t read the Mag but just to be sure I am making sure his picture is in this time! If you haven’t already, please be sure and put the 1st Annual Shriners Ride & Poker Run that takes place on June 24th on your ride calendar. It’s their first year but they are going all out on it and they do a lot of good work for the community.
Although they are a while away yet I want to remind you of the Ride for Autism taking place on July 8th and of course what should be a really big event, the Rideau Rendezvous taking place in Smiths Falls on July 14th – 16th and as far as I know The Celtic Brotherhood will be cooking breakfasts on both Saturday & Sunday. A Will to Live, a Will to Ride, a Will ...
By Glenn D. As far back as I can remember, I’ve loved motor-cycles. From the tender age of 12 y , my first ride was on the back of a BSA 250 cc. It was my grandfather’s motorcycle, and he would take me fishing on Saturday afternoon. From the very first ride I knew one day I would have a motorcycle. By the time I was 15, my grandfather knew I had a passion for motorcycles, so he taught me to ride. Shortly after, he was going to purchase a new motorcycle, and told me that he was going to give me his old one for my 16th birthday. Talk about a dream come true! I was counting the days. And sure enough, on my birthday I went over to pick up my new motorcycle. Essentially, readers, this is where this story begins. After ge�ng my new bike home, I made a special effort to shine and clean my new treasure, as the following Saturday we were going fishing. That Saturday, after we returned from fishing, my grandfather passed away. I was so sad; but what followed was also saddening. My grandfather never had a Will prepared; and as a result, arguing and fighting among relatives became the order of the day. Who was entitled to what, even my motorcycle was in question! Thankfully, I was allowed to keep it. For many year’s after, family members would not talk to each other, and a lot of hatred developed. Essentially, riders never get old. Like their rides, they just get better…Never-theless, having a will just makes so much sense. After all, there are only two guarantees in life: “death and taxes”. And in some cases, more taxes. Traffic fatalities were up sharply in 2015. Twenty-sixteen was the deadliest year on record in nearly a decade! Twenty-seventeen is predicted to be higher than 2016, and so on. All too familiar news headlines to riders. I always remember my first road accident. Coming from the “old country”, England, where there is a lot of rain, having my new bike, rain was not going to stop me! Sure enough, one day I was about to make a sharp turn, and leaned too far. The bike went one way, and I went the other! Yes, it hurt! That’s when I learned from an older rider: “There are only two kinds of riders: those who have fallen off their rides, and those who actually admit it! Very True. Ge�ng back to having a will. Probably the most important reason most riders do not have a will is the cost. A will with both Powers of Attorney can vary in cost from $300 to $700, which is expensive. I will explain later how to get your will for FREE. After all, you have a Will to Live and a Will to Ride! Why not a Will to take care of your loved ones after your passing? Most riders I know have full time jobs, own their homes, and some have their own business. For the most part, “everyday people” encounter “everyday” legal situations. It does not necessarily have to be a traffic related situation where you need legal advice. There are some 30 different areas of law we see in North America on a daily basis: Litigation, Matrimonial, Real Estate, Traffic, just to mention a few. Having a Legal Plan in place to protect not just yourself , but your spouse, and your children up to the age of 19 living at home, should be of tremendous value. Imagine for a moment, having an emergency legal situation at 3 am! With this plan you have access 24/7 to an AV Rated Law Firm! How valuable would that be? (An AV rated law firm covers all areas of the law.) Knowing your rights is so very important in today’s world; because the alternative, not knowing your rights, simply means, you don’t have any! What happens on the patio stays.............good! Most of the time... I was looking through recent issues of the Mag and one thing struck me as I scanned the pages covering events of various clubs: There are scads of pictures of groups of people having fun together at events, smiling, sharing food and drink and obviously having a good time. By contrast, there are almost no pictures of bikes going down the open road but do we really need to see that when our rides with friends are happily engraved on our minds forever? I think not. Before and a�er the ride, the really good times happen on the patio, in the cave, or at the “house” and we ought to treasure those times dearly. As we head into Father’s Day month, (yeah, I can’t wait for the Show and Shine on the Beach Strip, Hamilton) I find myself thinking about the family members, including my Dad, who we’ve had to say goodbye to just in the last five years. I buried my uncle today. It’s a rough year when I’m doing more funerals than weddings but that’s the job I signed up for. But I won’t darken your day with morbid thoughts. There’s a very old Jewish wisdom that God expects us to make a little piece of Heaven here on Earth with our family and friends before going to the real Heaven at the end. This is found in the Bible: “There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labour is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God. For who can eat and can have enjoyment without Him” (Ecclesiastes 2:24, 25). That’s an important rule of life and it means that we have to make the most of life this summer and onward, enjoying the rides, show and shines and time with our friends and loved ones. I know I will. That Bible verse occurs at least three more times that reinforce that we need to acknowledge God in our lives. Without doing so, we have a problem. Remember last month I wrote, “He who dies with the most toys...is still dead?” If you take the time to say, “Hey God, I believe in you. I believe that Jesus really is your Son and I want you to make me a part of your family. Please increase my faith and keep me safe and at peace in hard times.” I want you to think about going back and reading that last bold statement again and make it your sincere prayer. A�er all, when you finish this ride and go off to the other side, you do not want any surprises! I thank God that my uncle is in heaven now a�er losing to cancer but he lived 79 years and was a man of faith. God, I believe in You; please help me in my times of unbelief (Mark 9:24). Once again the roads are alive with this seasons riding agenda in full swing. With May being motorcycle awareness month, one could be at a run most every weekend. The exhilarating feeling as the ride, the brotherhood and camaraderie come back as we attend events in our communities. Having fun, living
free while we make a difference by attending and contributing to the people, clubs and groups that make up our riding family. One such fundraiser was jointly hosted by the Archrivals MC and the Chainbreakers RC in Calgary. This joint effort was brought together to help both groups raise funds to help support their continued efforts in the community. Attended well by both the public and by many of the other local groups. It was an awesome time with so much support from local businesses and a caring local riding community, a life sized wall hanging of a motorcycle was graciously donated by the Apostles. Its this spirit of giving and togetherness that showed strongest at this event that is fortunately common here in Alberta. The great weather made a great day of riding, great prizes and good friends made a first time event a definite yearly probability. Congrats again on a job well done, and hats off to all who attended and showed support to these dedicated individuals. Next on my list to attend was Top Rockers Blessing of the bikes in Drumheller. Another great local run dedicated to starting the season off with a blessing to all who participate in the riding events. Present for the proceedings was the Salvation Army who provided the much appreciated blessing of the riders, the road and to the season ahead of us. With a great public turn out, support was also shown by Family Jammin MC and representatives from the Apostles

MS as well. Again, another first time event for Top Rocker and the Drumheller Valley, fifty five bikes we blessed and pulled away for the charity poker run with on thousand dollars donated to the Salvation Army. Once again local support and the dedication of a few to help create and support a biking event in one of our Alberta communities has proven that we are surrounded by some of the most giving dedicated riders Canada has to offer.
Introduction of the magazine continues with a constant need for distribution points in most areas of the province. The magazine can now be picked up at Sideline Motorcycles in Lethbride to add to last months list of great places to pick up the mag. Slow but steady progress, that’s what I’m calling it. So for readers and riders out there, if you see a good deed or gesture or even just some great event pics, I would be happy to support your events with the face book page or with the magazine itself. Please give me a call or send me an email, I will do my best to attend or at least cover your event, especially if it showcases bikers coming together for bikers. Keep up the support all and don’t forget that volunteering at this stuff can make a world of difference. Until next month!

A farmer drove to a neighbor’s farmhouse and knocked at the door. A boy, about 9, opened the door “Is your dad or mom home?” said the farmer. “No, they went to town.” “How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?” “No, he went with Mom and Dad.” The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shi�ing from one foot to the other ,and mumbling to himself. “I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give Dad a message.” “Well,” said the farmer uncomfortably, “I really wanted to talk to your Dad. It’s about your brother Howard ge�ng my daughter Suzy pregnant”. The boy thought for a moment... “You would have to talk to Dad about that. I know he charges $500 for the bull and $50 for The pig, but I don’t know how much he charges for Howard.” A rich blonde buys a new automatic Jaguar XKR Sport. She drives the car perfectly well during the day, but at night, the car just won’t move at all. A�er trying to drive the car at night for a week (but without any luck), she furiously calls the Jaguar dealers and they send out a technician to her. The technician examines the car and finds nothing wrong with it. So he turns to the blonde and asks: “Ma’am, are you sure you are using the right gears?” Full of anger, the blonde replies: “You idiot, how on earth could you ask such a question? I’m not stupid you know! Of course I am using the right gears; I use D during the day and N at night.” Eddie wanted desperately to have sex with this really cute, really hot girl in his office... But she was dating someone else. One day Eddie got so frustrated that he went to her and said, ‘I’ll give you $100 if you let me have sex with you...The girl looked at him, and then said, ‘NO!’ Eddie said, ‘I’ll be real fast. I’ll throw the money on the floor, you bend down and I’ll finish by the time you’ve picked it up.’ She thought for a moment and said that she would consult with her boyfriend...So she called him and explained the situation. Her boyfriend says, ‘Ask him for $200, and pick up the money really fast. He won’t even be able to get his pants down.’ She agreed and accepts the proposal. Over half an hour goes by and the boyfriend is still waiting for his girl friend’s call. Finally, a�er 45 minutes the boyfriend calls and asks, ‘What happened...?’ Still breathing hard, she managed to reply, ‘The bastard had all dimes!’ Management lesson: Always consider a business proposition in it’s entirety before agreeing to it and ge�ng screwed Because they had no reservations at a busy restaurant, my elderly neighbor and his wife were told there would be a 45-minute wait for a table.”Young man, we’re both 90 years old,” the husband said. “We may not have 45 minutes.”They were seated immediately. The reason Politicians try so hard to get re-elected is that they would “hate” to have to make a living under the laws they’ve passed.
