205. Neapolitan Villager with Dog with Architectural Facade 8" (20 cm.) man. 4"l. dog. 17" h. x 14"w. background. Polychromed terra cotta head depicting a smiling man with sculpted short hair, goatee and moustache, enamel eyes, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, painted green stockings, sculpted brown wrinkled leggings, black shoes, wearing original homespun costume, along with earthenware white dog. Neapolitan, mid-1700s, excellent characterization for such a small figure, posed along with (contemporary) foam-board architectural facade. $800/1100

206. Neapolitan Young Lord with Flowing Curls 16" (41 cm.) Polychromed terra cotta shoulderhead depicting young lad with plumply-modeled cheeks, blonde sculpted hair with shoulder-length deeplyincised blonde locks curled up at the edges, enamel eyes, slightly-parted lips with row of sculpted teeth, tow-wrapped posable armature body, carved wooden lower arms and legs, bare feet, wearing early blue cotton and silk costume with silver metallic edging and white cotton shirt. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, late 1700s, especially fine detail of modeling on the prosperous-faced young lord. $1700/2500

206.1. Neapolitan Shaggy Dog, Attributed to Saverio Vassallo 9 ½" (24 cm.) Carved wooden shaggy dog with deeplysculpted fur, long curly tail and floppy ears, enamel eyes, carved open mouth with defined teeth and tongue, realistic painting of brown/white shading. Excellent condition. Neapolitan, late 1700s, attributed to Saverio Vassallo; the Vassallo brothers were noted for their wooden animal sculptures and Saverio especially concentrated on sculptures. It is said that he used the dogs of King Ferdinand IV as models for his works. $1200/1500
