113. Outstanding French Bisque Portrait Bébé E.J.A., by Emile Jumeau 26” (66 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with elongated facial modeling, very full cheeks and chin, blue glass paperweight inset eyes with spiral threading, mauve blushed eye shadow, brushstroked brows with feathered detail, shaded nostrils, accented eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between the outlined lips, separately-modeled pierced ears, dimpled chin and lip corners, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, French composition and wooden eight-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists, very plump limbs, lovely vintage silk costume of antique fabrics, undergarments, Jumeau shoes, woven bonnet. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: E.J./A 10 (head) Jumeau Medaille d’Or Paris (body). Comments: Emile Jumeau, circa 1879, the unique portrait model was made for one or two years only, and only in two sizes; an indication of its luxury status was its presentation in French toy store catalogs of the era where its price was double the price of other Jumeau bébés in that same catalog. Value Points: exceptional beauty and quality of the very rare luxury bébé, with finest bisque, complexion and painting, original body and body finish, splendid eyes. $18,000/25,000
