14. Outstanding French Bisque Gentleman Poupée with Wooden Body and Exceptional Costume 17” (43 cm.) Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder head, cobalt blue glass enamel eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with outlined lips, unpierced ears, black mohair wig over cork pate, curly mohair moustache and goatee, wooden poupée body with shapely torso, dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, bisque lower arms with wellsculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: French, circa 1867, the luxury nature indicates the doll having been created for the Parisian doll store of Simonne. Value Points: very fine modeling, bisque, painting, and dramatic eyes, rare wooden body with bisque hands. The doll was couturiere-costumed by Estelle Johnston,

inspired by the 1867 painting, Dinner at the Tuileries by Henri Baron (see details including silk embroidered braces and tricorn hat), and was awarded blue ribbon at the 1984 UFDC convention for doll costumed by owner. $3500/5500

15. Exquisite French Bisque Poupée by Blampoix for Maison Simonne 17” (43 cm.) Very pale swivel head on flat-cut neck socket allowing head to only rotate side to side in a realistic manner, on original shoulder plate, cobalt blue enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, delicately-feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented lips, ears pierced into head, very firmly-stuffed kid poupée body with kid-overwood jointing of knees, and kid-over-wood upper arms with shoulder jointing, and bisque arms to above the elbows, separately-sculpted fingers. Condition: generally excellent, two fingers and thumb broken on left hand. Marks: B.S. (shoulder plate) Passage Delorme Simonne Paris Rue de Rivoli 188. Comments: Blampoix under commission by the luxury doll shop of Maison Simonne, circa 1860. Value Points: rarity features of the exquisitely-beautiful include depose flat-cut neck, swivel body with bisque arms and wooden knee joints; wearing a superb costume of silk and lace with unique pearl head-dress created by Estelle Johnston from a design in 1865 La Mode Illustree of Paris. $3800/5500
