Housewarming for the Holidays

You have heard it sung many times, “There is no place like home for the holidays.” Now that you have unpacked that last box, or perhaps stuck it in storage, you are ready to open those doors and share your home with family and friends. The holiday season is a perfect time to combine sharing your new home, with some of your seasonal favorite activities. Thus, creating a low-key festive gathering. Here are some tips for your holiday housewarming party:

Decorating

Decorate your home to best represent your tastes and style. A great thing about having a housewarming party during the holidays is that your seasonal décor can make your gathering even more festive. Along with your everyday décor, bring in some elements that will warm up your space for the winter season. Throw blankets, pillows, and warm candles can make for a cozy welcome.

Inviting Guests

If your new home is located close to family and friends, you may already have a good idea of who you would want to invite to your housewarming party. However, if you are new to an area all together, this is a great time to invite your new neighbors or coworkers for a get to know you gathering. If your guest list is long a great idea is to plan your event as a drop in open house. Guests will feel free to leave as needed without an obligation to stay for a long crowded party.


Food

A wonderful thing about a housewarming party is the food does not need to be elaborate. You can choose to serve your seasonal favorites, organize a potluck, serve only appetizers, have it catered, make your own homemade snack trays, or maybe even have a dessert only party.

Making it Festive

You can include some fun holiday themes in your housewarming party. Perhaps you could ask each guest to bring an ornament to decorate the tree in your new home, followed with cookies and hot chocolate. Play seasonal music or a movie in the background. Another idea would be for guests to bring a wrapped toy to donate to a local toy drive. Have your guests all wear only one- or two-color options to your party, or dare I say, wear an ugly sweater? The ideas are endless when it comes to adding some seasonal fun to your welcoming guests to your new home. Ultimately your housewarming is a chance for you to show your new home to guests, and to be filled with fun and community. Enjoy every moment, and remember, there is no place like home for the holidays!
