1. Research prospective cities

Central Oregon has many wonderful cities with their own benefits. If you don’t mind a commute, you may be able to stretch your purchasing dollars farther by expanding your search. Keep in mind all the things that may be most important to you such as cost of living, schools, crime rate, local activities/classes, community opportunities, and any public transportation needs when factoring in where you want to land.

2. Know your loan options

The type of loan you choose will determine your down payment amount, what type of home you can buy and more. Each type of loan has its own qualification standards that must be met.

3. Don’t wait on loan pre-approval

The homes in this market move quickly. You want to be ready to move forward with your purchase when you find your ideal home.

4. Maintain your credit

In the time frame of looking for the right home, preapproval, and the final purchase, make sure to maintain your credit. This is not the time to pull out any new lines of credit.

5. Stick to your budget

When the market is highly competitive, it can be tempting to get caught up in the frenzy. It is important to make sure that you can afford the home you purchase with incidentals in mind.
