Once Upon a Nightmare

Gifted with wings and hands that heal

She soared higher than mountains

A man knocked on her gates

She gave him the keys

He opened her heart

Just to break her world apart

When she awakened

Locked up in a cage

The woman jolted in sharp pain

Her tears fell with breathless sobs

Fingers reached for the large gash

Bleeding on her back

Deep sobs erupted

Into torrents of shrieks

The man robbed her of her wings

Crushing her with grief

Lightning strikes and the winds howl

A raging tempest bursts

Slumber falls and blurs reality

The shadow awakens

Lurking in the darkness

In the deep caverns of her dreams

He deprived her of freedom

She unleashes pandemonium

Hungry for retribution

Colossal thorns grow

Ravens fill the void with unheard thoughts

From the shadow who’s stepping up to the forefront

Reality dawned at the entrance of sunrise

She starts the spinning wheel

To weave a new chapter

Fabrics come to life

As threads dance in the palm of her hands

She resurrects the wings she had lost

The man returns to inflict more wounds

Holding on to her wings and free from the cage

She soars and pushes him down the cliff

Burns the tapestries on the walls-

The only remnants of him

She cuts off the strings

No longer trapped from the thorns

Finally embracing the shadow

Basking in the afterglow

Finding herself in evergreen heavens
