AP Club Launches AP Month Celebration with Exciting Activities by Bianca Ashley A. Singson In the first week of October, the Araling Panlipunan Club Officers announced the annual AP Month Celebration at Ernesto Rondon Covered Court.

The former Officer in Charge (OIC) of Araling Panlipunan, Mrs. Rosemarie Esparas, introduced the officers of the AP Club for the school year 2023–2024. She was soon joined by Brent Villanueva, the president of the AP club, to introduce the other members.

Brent Villanueva, along with the officers, declared the opening of AP Month with the theme "Equality, Freedom, and Justice for All." They also announced activities for each grade level. For grades 7 and 10, there's a postermaking contest, while for grades 8 and 9, a slogan-making contest with the theme "International Year of Millets." More information and criteria will be posted on their official Facebook page.

In the following days, the AP Club Officers proceeded with their announcements by visiting classrooms.

They organised a quiz bee titled "Tagisan ng Talino" in the Audio Visual Room (AVR) on October 20 in the afternoon, testing students' knowledge of the history of the United Nations. For their last activity, the AP Club created a digital flyer-making contest for grade 10 students titled "Kabataan, Boses ng Bayan."

To conclude the AP Month celebration, the club officers expressed their gratitude to the participating students, guiding teachers, and the supportive principal. Following the AP Month Celebration, English Month is on the horizon.

ERHS’ First Periodical Examination for S.Y. 2023-2024

Ernesto Rondon High School held its first periodical exam for all grade levels from October 26 to October 27.

Despite the overwhelming and overflowing schoolwork that the students were dealing with, they still managed to find time to review all of the lessons that were covered during the first quarter of the school year.

Grade 10 student, Megan Dela Cruz says, “I hope that everyone will pass the exams and receive the scores that we deserve.”

Indeed, everyone is striving to get good academic grades. We could only pray and hope for the best now that the exam was over.

S.P.T.A. Ernesto Rondon High School gathered for a pivotal meeting on September 30, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., as Principal Mrs. Ruby de Jesus hosted parents for an election to determine the School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) officers.

In her address, Principal de Jesus addressed crucial topics such as student dropout rates, enrollment statistics, and other significant aspects impacting the school.

Among the highlights of the meeting was the acknowledgment of the commendable efforts of Mrs. Beng Manuel, the former SPTA President, who was praised for her contributions during her tenure. Mrs. Manuel expressed gratitude, emphasising her dedication and wholehearted service to ERHS.

ERHS SSLG ELECTS GRADE 7 REPRESENTATIVES

It’s another year of seeing freshmen unlock their true potential at Ernesto Rondon High School. In every success, there must also be experience. Just like what happened at the Supreme Secondary Learner Government Grade 7 Representative Elections on September 22.

With a total of 180 votes, Queen Nicole Almero, a student from Grade 7 Garnet, was officially elected as the new SSLG representative.

Together with Caitlin Alodia Somera, from Grade 7, Hubble, with 177 votes, she also got elected for the position. However, for the others who weren’t fortunate enough to win, they have other chances to still become student leaders with the various clubs of the school, opening up positions they can be eligible for.

The Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) of Ernesto Rondon High School conducted a webinar titled "Inspire, Influence, Ignite (I CAN)" with the theme, "Leaders as Visionaries towards Sustainability," on Saturday, October 7, from 9 o'clock in the morning to noon via Google Meet.

The SSLG, CIC, club officers, presidents, and vice presidents of every class were encouraged to join the said webinar to improve their leadership skills and prepare them for bigger responsibilities.

The masters of ceremonies were SSLG Vice President Camilla Jean Zabala and SSLG Grade 9 Representative Gennica Gene Donasco. For the lead program, SSLG Treasurer Bianca Ashley Singson led the invocation. Following the national anthem, SSLG President Rafhaella Tamayo delivered her opening remarks, and afterwards, SSLG Protocol Officer Angel Marie Abella performed during the intermission. The introduction of the guest speakers was then conducted, followed by an open forum. After that, SSLG Adviser Mrs. Marivic Camacho awarded certificates to the speakers, and Araling Panlipunan Department—OIC Mrs. Rosemarie C. Esparas delivered the closing remarks.

The first speaker of the webinar was Anthony John A. Ortiz, a former ERHS SSG Secretary (S.Y. 2017–2018). His topic was "Building a System that Creates 'I Can' Followers." The second speaker was Jericho Arellano, a former ERHS SSG G7 Representative (S.Y. 2012–2013), ERHS SSG Peace Officer (S.Y. 2015–2016), ERHS Interact Club President (S.Y. 2015–2016),

and ERHS School Publication—Ang Salamin, Punong Patnugot. His topic was "Five Principles of Sustainable Development." The third speaker was Jose Mario De Vega, Associate Professor 1 at the National University of the Philippines. His topic was "Courage and Transformative Leadership."

The speakers awarded cash prizes to students who actively participated and engaged themselves the most during their talks and presentations. Angela Frayco won 500 pesos from Speaker Anthony John A. Ortiz. Christiana Viste, Cedrick Madrigal, and Angela Frayco, on the other hand, each won 200 pesos from Speaker Jericho Arellano.

The webinar was successfully conducted with the cooperation of the Rondonians who attended it. The number of participants in the Google Meet reached at least 100, and there were also those who watched the live broadcast on the Ernesto Rondon High School Supreme Secondary Learner Government Facebook Page.

According to some sources, the successful event was technically directed by the SSLG Public Information Officer, Brent Gabriel Eugenio, together with the SSLG Auditor, Hillary Ann Caparas.

The SSLG’s last statements were, “Let's all re-engineer the values within each and one of us. The webinar was another achievement done by the SSLG for this school year. The student government took an oath to continuously nurture and support every learner for an exceptional learning community.

The webinar is the second webinar hosted by the student government since the pandemic hit. Just like any other webinar, the initiative had a comprehensive approach to coaching and inspiring the student body in terms of leadership. It sought to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and motivation for students to become confident, effective, and ethical leaders in various aspects of their lives.

Another successful year for the Science Department as they led Science Month’s activities and programs with excellence.

Their efforts surely paid off as both students and teachers gave their full support and appreciation. As one of the school’s pillars, they serve as a guide for students who are more than willing to explore the realms of chemistry, biology, physics, and more, encouraging them to learn and be concerned about how our life works, as well as its surroundings and the things we want to figure out. Dedication is always seen whenever they teach their students.

Expressing their thoughts freely and confidently in front of each class while having a fun and active engagement with students makes them one of a kind.

Science is a never-easy and a never-ending journey. However, with the faculty’s guidance and support, students’ perception of this subject is continuously improving. Elaborative and interactive discussions are prepared by each teacher every day, allowing every learner to have a brilliant mind.

Facilities such as the science laboratories and the faculty’s office, held by the teachers in charge are also well taken care of. They surely are responsible when it comes to handling the

students and the places they manage.

All in all, the ERHS Science Faculty comprises very capable, trustworthy, and thoughtful people. Their goodness is surely noticed and appreciated by Rondonians. Here are some of the student's impressions and thoughts about science teachers:

Teachers with varying levels of specialization make up the TLE Department.

ICT, or Information and Communication Technology, SMAW, or Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Drafting, and Cookery are just a few of the topics covered in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE). Salute to the Ernesto Rondon High School avengers for using the information provided to what we consider all-rounders!

A gist of what TLE is. As mentioned, it is about Information and Livelihood, and it is categorized into four. Information and Communications Technology teaches about the basics of Information Technology, related with computers and sorts. Next is the Shielded Metal Arc Welding. Drafting, the basics of plates and serves as an introduction for students who want a background for Architecture and Engineering. And Cookery that teaches the basics of cooking, prepping, and plating of different dishes.

This department helps the students to bring their full-on potential, in fields they can explore and vocationally enhance, or they might also discover what they possess. In celebration of the teacher’s month, a limelight of focus is on the people who bring our full potential, in technology and livelihood aspect, the TLE Department Teachers.

WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY SPECIAL

“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery."

As Mark Van Doren once said, teaching helps to unlock a student’s learning. Big thanks and appreciation to all our MAPEH Teachers in Rondon, for they are the ones who help us enjoy and feel the excitement of learning.

Their subject is the one that catches our interest the most. Since, we all enjoy listening to music even if we aren't very good singers, and even though we aren't very talented artists, we have an eye for stunning works of art. And of course, we all aspired to be physically healthy and fit as a whole.

Aside from that, their subjects are the ones that help students to have new experiences, discover more, and unlock different potentials.

There are many teachers who make a huge impact in our lives every day, and I could say that MAPEH Teachers' are definitely one of them. From teaching us different aspects of education in Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health.

“Us students are most thankful.” for our MAPEH teachers that have guided us throughout our education.

Although many MAPEH teachers have come and gone throughout our childhood, each has left a lasting impression on our heart that we will forever be thankful for.

We appreciate your support and your determination to never give up on us. We may not show it, but we value it more than we do. Thank you for being a true example of grit and resilience to all of us. Thank you for always valuing our answers and opinions in class. Most importantly, Thank you for never failing to make us laugh, smile and feel the importance of learning.

We owe it all to the MAPEH Department of Ernesto Rondon High School. For being so much more than a teacher. For being our supporter, mentor, and guide in every moment there is. Thank you for your never ending dedication and commitment to teaching us. I hope you all know that your subject excites us the most. Not just because of your great teaching skills but also because of your loving and unforgettable character. You teachers are truly the school's greatest asset. In a World Full of Problems, There’s Always a Solution in it

by Angela Vaia Frayco Hearing the subject math is an overwhelming thing is it? It’s always been difficult to teach this subject, especially when it is one of the hardest to learn. That’s what every math teacher faces in their everyday life, a real life problem that requires a real life solution. Based on the past assessments, it is clearly seen that many Filipino students do not have enough of the skills and knowledge on this subject appropriate for their grade level. A critical situation for both teachers and students.

Our school’s math department is admirable for one big reason—their ability to teach and apply the concepts in math to real life problems. They know exactly that their problem is making the students understand the lessons efficiently, so they presented solutions. There’s a ton of teaching techniques and that includes teaching wholeheartedly with an adequate amount of enjoyment and curiosity. That kind of teaching that students want and what our current teachers give us.

As many students consider this subject a scary thing, teachers do otherwise. Having a nice discussion and not putting tension are one of the things that math teachers are expert at.

They are aware of the thoughts of the students and they make sure to keep them assured that

they're going to learn something. By giving their full efforts, informative and easy-to-learn ways of solving problems are delivered. Teaching continuously as long as it can help their students learn effectively.

Apart from equations and problem-solving processes, there are also moral lessons that are taught by them. Since math is not an easy subject, they're also

Learning math requires hard work, patience and effort after all.

Moreover, self confidence and the thought of not giving up are always mentioned by them in order to encourage us. Solving two problems simultaneously, enabling us to be interested in studying a subject that's complex and feared by many.

In other words, just like how math taught us that there is always a solution to problems, our math department teachers also did the same thing.

Proving to us that they can help us comprehend the lesson by showing us their positive response in our daily math struggles. A role model for those who want to learn and have something to earn, such as values and topics in this very great subject.

A powerful impact that can mold us to be the better versions of ourselves. In this world full of math problems, they saw the truth in us.

They trusted us that we could solve it eventually. As teenagers who currently experience a lot of new things, there is always an obstacle in front of us, an obstacle that needs to be solved by finding the x and whys of our lives. "Each problem that I solved became a rule, which served afterward to solve other problems." — Rene Descartes. The guiding light of mathematics will always inspire us. With teachers as our guide, their trust as our flame, and the lessons as our stepping stone, there will be an opportunity ahead of us.

The Filipino department showed us the importance of what they call "Bayanihan."

Without Bayanihan, we wouldn't have been able to complete something because we needed someone else's ideas and thoughts.

The most memorable thing that the Filipino department and teachers taught me is that we need to work together, we need someone to be with, and we need just each other. Just like in a family, without the parents, siblings, and cousins, they do not know what to do, because they are missing someone. They're not gonna be able to function properly because a part of them is missing. And that shows how we truly need each other. We need help, so

“Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.”

If you are at school in search of assistance, the Filipino department is surely gonna be always there on call.

Strict but open-minded, strict but fun to be with and can make you laugh in any circumstances. That's how the Filipino department and teachers are. Even when you're struggling while reciting in class, they will not judge you nor make fun of you, instead, they will make it a great journey without giving a sense of humiliation. They can be sarcastic just like your friends, and are fun to hang out with, and sometimes you'll not even notice that they are your teachers because of how naturally they blend with the students and make everyone feel at ease.

Unsung Heroes

A mind filled with curiosity that craves learning, a usual occurrence that teachers often encounter and each time they do, they never fail to satisfy those eager brains for something new.

Araling Panlipunan teachers are one of the best examples that I can think of. They taught us the history of our country, how the different aspects of society work together to sustain our nation, and how our heroes sacrificed their remaining souls for the freedom that we are attaining.

However, they seem to fail to see how educators like them are also the ones who fit and deserve to be called the heroes of the country.

Teachers have been called and acknowledged as our second parents outside our homes and the school is where they reign. In such a place, a great amount of knowledge is distributed to children that they ought to absorb and later will shape them to be the best version of themselves. In a more logical way, students are like clay in the hand of the sculptor known as the teachers, that are chiselled and carved accordingly. And so, teachers in fact have such a big impact on how students like us will turn out to be.

teachers starting from 7th grade have provided me with different kinds of learning and experiences that are without a doubt still lingering in my brain. I think it is their nature to be so kind and all friendly, as every time they discuss their lesson, a positive atmosphere is circulating everyone, you wouldn't be bored with the lesson as they have a lot to say and share.

But kidding aside, AP teachers are one of the best educators that ERHS should be proud of!

During the pandemic, where online classes were implemented, many students were affected by the circumstances, and were observed to be slowly losing focus and passion for learning, but teachers, with their great enthusiasm and deep commitment to their students, found a way to use their knowledge and skills to reach every student in their class. I remember my 7th grade teacher, Mrs. Lorna Virola, uses interactive apps online that are fun and engaging just to make us interrelate with her presentation. I deeply appreciated her effort during that time and felt her determination to teach.

Every year on World Teachers Day, we take a particular moment to appreciate the invaluable contribution that our teachers have made to our nation's transformation. The statement made by educationists that teachers are "attractive models who advertise, by their very being— that learning does produce wondrous results" perfectly sums it up. In ERHS and everywhere I go, I witness the efforts of our teachers at work, making a significant contribution to our communities. Truly, they are the silent workers and the backbone of the society.

For all these reasons, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the critical role that teachers play in my life and thank them for their inestimable contribution to shaping and helping to secure the future of our society. For all of my Araling Panlipunan teachers since elementary, I would like to recognize all of your efforts in teaching my once aroused curiosity and filling it up with knowledge and learning. And I hope one day, you will all realise how all of you belong to the heroes of the country that you teach to young students, and it is all because of your incomparable sacrifice into moulding the future of our nation.

“Just The Way You Are '' by Bruno Mars resembles the English Department Teachers because they are the most realistic ones.

They're just being them by teaching, by giving an example, and in terms of bonding with students. For students, they are like a cup of tea you could never get tired of.

Since then, English has always been the favorite subject of almost everyone. Not just because it is interesting, but also because it is exciting, just like the teachers. Most students said,

“They’re fun to be with.” and they had the most impact among the rest.

According to the Cambridge Assessment of International Education, English was the second most popular choice, with 37% worldwide and 31% of included respondents selecting it as a favorite. The popularity of the English language differs by country, however, with the lowest proportion, 6%, in the USA and the highest, 22%, in Indonesia. These statistics only prove how great English teachers are.

These teachers go beyond the textbook and employ innovative teaching methods, to make the lectures both fun and cultured for students.

Furthermore, the Ernesto Rondon Teachers have proven that English means more than the subject itself. It also means E for elegant, N for natural, G for gorgeous, L is for lively, I is for incredible, S is for sophisticated, and lastly, H is for hardworking. The students see them as inspiration.

To conclude everything, they are for them, and they are for you. They're always there to listen to your rants, thoughts, and opinions without being biased. In short, they're like your buddy, not just in reading but in everything. It is not just the subject matter itself that contributes to this enthusiasm, but also the passionate and engaging teachers who bring English to life.

Morals at its finest

Memorable principles and teachings have been infused into our lives, and we owe a great deal to our ESP teachers. They played an important role in our academic lives, teaching us that being brilliant is not enough to be deemed educated. Having strong morals and values is essential for every one of us. Whether we like it or not, these teachers are now a part of our lives. Their teachings will mold us into better versions of ourselves for ourselves and for those around us.

Let us all appreciate our ESP teachers for devoting their careers to educating high school students how to be decent human beings who put others' needs ahead of their own.

“It is in God’s will that they chose us.” to teach us and for that, we are beyond grateful.

As we grow apart from each other, we will make sure that we will always bring the lessons that you gave us and use it for the better. It is now our responsibility as students to repay the efforts you have made to ensure that we continue to learn everyday.

From this, we will keep the discipline you inserted in our brains and continue to be a good influence to everyone around us as it is the most important thing you have ever taught us during our high school years. Sometimes you cannot see heroes flying through the sky, sometimes they are just in ESP Department. With that, thank you, ESP teachers! You made our life significant.
