What would you call a player who has averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game over five of his 11-plus NBA seasons, yet has only one All-Star appearance to show for it? You might call him underrated. And you also might wonder, why so little love? True, Zach Randolph, the massive power forward and enforcer for the Memphis Grizzlies, can score and rebound with the best of the NBA big men, sporting career per-game averages of 17.3 and 9.2. And he’s off to a solid start this season, averaging more than 16 points and 13 rebounds (second in the league) per game. But he does have a few negatives to his game. First, he has the reputation of being a below-average defender, likely a function of his low blocked-shots totals and, by extension, his near-nonexistent vertical leap. He also doesn’t shoot for a high percentage, averaging just over 47 percent for his career. And then there’s his temper. Over his career, he’s been involved in more than his share of run-ins, including with Blake Griffin, Louis Amundson, Nene, Kendrick Perkins and teammate Ruben Patterson. He’s also been known to hang with some lessthan-savory characters away from the court. But his fellow Grizzlies will tell you he’s a great teammate and a major cog in the team’s rise in the Southwest Division. Seaside Heights was the quintessential New Jersey beach town; a little down at its heels, featuring a boardwalk with old-fashioned rides, fried Oreos and tattooed people in bikinis. Then MTV came along and it became the vortex of the wild world of “Jersey Shore.” That all ends Thursday, Dec. 20, when MTV airs the final episode, then a live reunion show. The show was shot long before Sandy devastated the town, shattering the boardwalk and leaving the roller coaster in the Atlantic Ocean. MTV has held a “Restore the Shore” special, featuring the cast, that has raised over $1 million. Donations can still be made. (For more information, go to www.mtv.com/specials/ restore-the-shore/) Before Sandy meant more to New Jersey than a Springsteen song, the breakout personalities of “Jersey Shore” spoke separately with Zap2it, reflecting on the series. Q: Why do you think the show became such a phenomenon? Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi: Because people weren’t expecting us to do what we want and say what we want and saying things people would not normally say and is on our minds. The fact that we didn’t really care is why. And we are so relatable. Even with doing something stupid and waking up and having been drunk. I think everybody goes through that. Q: What is it like living at the house? Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino: You have no phone, no Internet, no TV. You are almost concentrating on the human element. Vinny Guadagnino: It was fun. It was crazy living with the same people 24 hours a day for two months straight. There was no escape, no TV, no cellphone, no radio, no music, no sounds. All you could do is talk to each other for two months straight. In a way that sucks but in another way
‘Jersey Shore’ says see ya it is a cool life experience where you have to go back to the stone age and find things to do to keep busy. Q: What are the biggest misconceptions people have about all of you? Jennifer “JWOWW” Farley: In general, that we are all very uneducated, very narcissistic and only believe in looking good and being fit, and (are) shallow human beings. And really I feel like we are all normal 20-year-olds and 30year-olds and took an amazing opportunity anyone would. Though it was for the summer and in the public eye, people

NBC has decided that its comedy “Community” – about a study group composed of adult misfits in an equally off-kilter community college – won’t return to the airwaves until Feb. 7. Each year, the show films special Halloween and Christmas-themed episodes, which now won’t be seen until midwinter or even spring. But, in the meantime, the denizens of Greendale take a break on the show’s sets at Paramount Studios in Hollywood to share their personal holiday traditions and/or favorite foods. Jim Rash (Dean Pelton; also a voice talent in the animated “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated”; Academy Award winner for co-writing the screenplay for the George Clooney movie “The Descendants”): “We used to make gingerbread houses (growing up in North Carolina). It’s a sugar nightmare. I remember doing it with a bunch of kids in the neighborhood, like Easter eggs.” As to what might happen if he made one for the “Community” cast, Rash says, “We’d eat the crap out of that thing, except for Joel McHale, unless it was his cheat day.” Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley Bennett; also voice talent in the animated “Pound Puppies”): “Peppermint bark. It’s white chocolate with peppermint. It’s only around from late November to the end of December, and I can only find it at Starbucks. I look forward to that every year. As long as the action movies in this videogame-inspired franchise keep coming, Milla Jovovich never has to worry if she’ll work again. This time, her foes try to eliminate her by converting a friend (Sienna Guillory) into an enemy just as clever and physically adept. Maybe it takes living without electricity and heat for a while. Maybe it’s when trying to fill the gas tank becomes an odyssey. Perhaps it’s being trapped in your neighborhood, because even if you have gas, downed trees and wires make it impossible to pass and mass transit is shuttered. At some point, it dawns on everyone that being better prepared for a disaster is necessary. And that’s what folks on National Geographic Channel’s No. 1 show, “Doomsday Preppers,” have been saying all along. The show, which airs Tuesdays, takes on special significance this week as Dec. 21, or 12/21/12, looms. Many people believe the Mayans considered this date the end of the world. Of course if you believe it’s doomsday, preparing is moot. But if you think survival is possible, then this show could help. NatGeo brought together some preppers and journalists at The Greenbrier, a resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., where an enormous bunker designed to shelter Congress is hidden. It’s an impressive setup, with safety and secrecy paramount. The government began planning it in 1958 and it stood
ready for use, though it never was. In 1992, Ted Gup, an investigative reporter, disclosed its existence and within four years the government stopped funding. Still, this attention to detail, engineering and defense fascinates the preppers. They devote time to shopping, stocking and planning. Kara and Braxton Southwick of Utah have regular jobs – she works for a financial company, he is a mechanic – but their free time is spent prepping to survive the smallpox epidemic he’s certain is coming. “If I can convince one person to have a bug-out bag and a plan out of the city and three days food and water,” Braxton says, it will have justified doing the show. Bug-out bags are what people grab when fleeing disaster. They are stocked with food, means of purifying water and starting fires, according to Scott Hunt and Dave Kobler, co-founders of Practical Preppers, LLC, a company that determines how prepared people are and rates preppers on the show. “I think we are in the last moments of our last days,” Hunt says. “No one knows the date. ... My design is to wake people up, so they would prepare.”

After Katie confessed that she had tried to push them into a romantic engagement during her absence, Bill and Brooke privately agreed not to tell her about the kiss they shared, since they feared it would drive Katie into a tailspin. Days of our Lives As Nicole watched in disbelief, Daniel found his hands as steady as ever while he performed emergency surgery to remove Jennifer’s ruptured appendix. In a brief moment of clarity, Jennifer told Daniel she loves him. Nick surprised a joyful Gabi with a romantic engagement present, although Hope and Caroline had different reactions as the young couple’s wedding plans began to move quickly. As a deeply conflicted Will was talked into being Nick’s best man, Chad decided to tell Sonny the truth about Gabi’s role in Melanie’s kidnapping.
