In our local there is a lot of businesses that are taking place like selling fruit, veg to your stand, small businesses to the house like selling drinks or fruit or clothes, shoes for men, woman or any kind of business but when it comes to the support your product or good will be buy mostly by friends or family members why?

Why don’t we support although you don’t know business owner. If it was you how will you feel when you don’t get support at your location?

What I know when you sell an product or good you make sure it is 100% and is in good condition. If you are the owner of an any business make sure your goods or product are in good condition 100% so that customers can buy your product.

The other thing makes us not support each other businesses is because we jealous, undermined each other and goods are not in good condition. You know what by supporting each other businesses we fight poverty, crime, you change someone’s life no matter what kind of business owner you are but by selling your products or goods you earn something at the end of the day, you can buy whatever you want to buy, Life it’s a wheel - never give-up. Conservation Corner THE THREE Rs Here they are the three Rs...

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Plain and simple to follow. It seems that we have gotten to a point where it is crucial not to ignore the never ending warnings from scientists all over the world telling us to take the little extra time and effort out of our day to assure a safe and clean environment for future generations.

The most important step to make, which is often the most difficult one of all, is to change our habits. Change our way of thinking when it comes to consuming. R number one firmly stands for the fact that our planet has provided us with very useful resources. However they are not limitless and it is our job to use them well and judge what we really need and what we really do not need. Most importantly it is important not to waste these materials, which brings us to R number 2. Thinking creatively on how to reuse recyclable materials is one of the best skills we can develop. What can I do with this empty glass bottle?

Can I reuse these plastic bags instead of buying new ones? Finally if this is not possible turn to our R number three, Recycling. All materials such as metal, glass (no drinking glasses or light bulbs), paper (no wax paper, carbon paper or stickers), plastic, tetrapak and batteries can be recycled. It is the governments goal to reduce these materials by seventy percent in the next decade.

Make it happen... make the change!

Letter via the Editor FYNBOS UNDER THREAT! There is a move afoot to remove all fynbos from road verges in The Crags.

What is Fynbos (or 'painbos' as I have heard it decribed)? As far back as 1772 botanical visitors from Europe where amazed at the rich biodiversity of the rarest and most beautiful plants in the world, our 'fynbos'. Fynbos is unique and the smallest of six floral kingdoms on earth. Home of the worlds richest floras, 2/3 of which are found no where else on the earth! The Cape floral region has been identified as one of the 30 most critical biological hot spots in terms of conservation on earth.

How can we fortunate owners of this rare gem 'fynbos', just condemn it "as useless for pasture, no good for cows, horses or human consumption" or "just mere bossies", a 'fire hazard'? Fynbos needs all the help it can get to survive man, urban developement, agriculture, crops such as Rooibos tea and invasive alien vegetation.

According to the last survey 60% or almost 2/3 of our unique heritage 'fynbos' is already gone and the remainder under threat. Everyone can make a difference to the survival of this unique vegetation.

Letters have appeared in the local newspaper urging people to drive through The Crags to see the fantastic road side fynbos vegetation. Preserving our magnificent fynbos along the road verges makes sense as it will encourage tourists who will spend money and thereby support the local people. Also, Bees are in danger worldwide. Look at the price of honey! Fynbos honey is the best there is! I beg the people who propose to mow the verges to think again. At the very least we should

Letter via the Editor Last Friday approximately 12.30 p.m., my neighbour called over the fence to tell me sewage was coming out in the garden. Thinking there was no hope of any assistance being lunchtime on a Friday I tried phoning the sewage department of the Municipality. Eventually a very friendly man name Hendry answered and said "No problem, we have 2 standby vehicles" Sure enough after about 15 minutes, the sewage lorry turned up with about 6 or 7 guys, who cheerfully told me it wouldn`t take a minute to clear it. They were right, about 5 minutes later they were on their way all waving goodbye and smiling.

Feb. the 3th I wanted to draw R2000, at the atm of the fnb on market square. The slip showed R2.000,- but I only receive R1.500,- a friend of mine was witness.

I contacted the fnb several times, made phone calls and wrote a letter.

The bank was not interested. They said their atm is perfectly OK and I probably lost the money on way home in the car. I am a “swallow” and have been coming to your wonderful Plett for 20 years now. I never had a problem with anybody, never experienced thieves or break-ins.

The only huge disappointment I came across in all these years is the first national bank. As I cannot win against them, I hope they be happy with my R500, but please, be aware of their atm on market square.

BIA Masizame Golf Days 2011

Two amazing golf days were had by all who took part in this year’s Born in Africa/Masizame Golf event. The two golf days were held at Goose Valley (Sunday 20 February 2011) and Plettenberg Bay Country club (Sunday 6 March 2011).

Both NPO organizations who work with youth at risk in the Bitou area were overwhelmed by the incredible support of the local community.

Exodus 33:14 [ESV] "And He said, 'My presence will go with you and I will give you rest'.

These words recorded in the Book of Exodus were spoken by God to Moses when He gave him the Ten Commandments.

What a wonderful assurance to take back down the mountain and give to the Israelites and for them to know that wherever they ventured the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob would be in their midst.

In the Book of Deuteronomy we read the words that Moses spoke to the people: "For Jehovah, your God, is He who is going with you; He shall not fail you nor forsake you."

However, do you realise that for those who have received Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and have placed their trust in Him this same promise not only holds true, but goes even further?

The writer to the Hebrews, in the New Testament, reiterates this promise and says: "Not at all will I leave you, not at all will I forsake you, never!" [Heb.13:5b Literal Translation] And in John 14:18 Jesus, too, declared to His disciples that after His departure He would not leave them alone: "I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."

Just before this He had said: "And I will ask the Father and He will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. You know Him for He dwells with you and will be in you." [John 14:16-17]

Thanks for shaving and spraying at 8th CANSA Shavathon The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA)’s 8th Shavathon event was a huge success thanks to all the South Africans who helped fight cancer in such a substantial and memorable way by spraying or shaving their hair at their schools, workplaces and at shopping centres countrywide this past weekend 3 – 6 March 2011.

“CANSA would like to thank the 250 shopping centres and 220 workplaces that participated in this year’s Shavathon. Our unique and integrated service is made possible through you taking part in Shavathon in your community”, said CANSA’s CEO and cancer survivor of over 27 years, Sue Janse van Rensburg.

“The sad, and mostly happy and courageous stories shared on the day, really made me aware of the overwhelming issue cancer has become, it affects all South Africans across the board”, she added.

us, as well as a special thanks to the floor managers who worked tirelessly to organise, setup, manage volunteers and pack up venues in the Southern Cape Retion. Funds raised by CANSA Shavathon 2011 will be used in the fight against cancer. This money so generously donated helps CANSA to continue providing their service to the community and support to cancer survivors.

Hearing the words, ‘You have cancer’ leaves people feeling shocked, overwhelmed and helpless, however, CANSA supports them and their loved ones via their comprehensive support programme and meeting their needs.

“We fight cancer by making the public aware of the importance of early detection of cancer that enables more effective treatment and a better chance of recovery - this is achieved by our cancer screening clinics,” concluded Janse Van Rensburg and the Southern Cape Region CANSA recorded over 20 400 Pap smears to help detect cervical cancer; 24 908 breast self-examinations (BSE) to help detect breast cancer; approximately 4 950 Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests to help detect prostate cancer and over 5 900 skin examinations to help detect skin cancer.

In addition, CANSA provides an Information service for cancer survivors, their families and the public through the CANSA toll-free information and the CANSA website. CANSA runs prevention and education programmes, patient care and support in the form of 13 Interim Homes in the main metropolitan areas for out-of-town cancer patients, support centres that offer stoma and lymphoedema

clinics, medical equipment hire, toll-free line and support to children and their families affected by cancer.

And with the hair-spray not even dry, CANSA’s already gearing up for the next big thing, CANSA Relay For Life. A Relay For Life event, hosted nationally, is an overnight, fun-filled event that mobilises communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors (anyone who has ever been diagnosed with cancer), remember loved ones at have passed away from cancer and raise money for the fight against cancer. Regional PWMSA Launch and Local Artists Bash NOMA-INDIA MFEKETHO ATTENDED THE REGIONAL PWMSA LAUNCH HOSTED BY BITOU MUICIPALITY. Once again Bitou had done what it becoming famous of, as it hosted the Launch of Progressive Women’s Movement South Africa (PWMSA) which was held at New Horizons Community Hall last Saturday, where Women from all the areas of Southern Cape region were gathered together.

Among the guest there was, National Deputy Speaker of the Parliament who is also a Convener (Noma- India Mfeketho), Mommy Jafta who is the National organizer of PWMSA, Bitou Deputy Mayor Monica Seyisi, and Deputy Chairperson of ANC Regional Women’s League Nomajuda Biki.

Noma- India had gave the background and objectives of PWMSA which was launched National in Bloemfontein on the 8th August 2006 to create a brand front for development of Women in South Africa and the one that would enable them to speak with one voice to address their concerns irrespective of race, Class, Religion, Political and Social standing. While addressing the audience Noma-India informed them that Eden District is the first region in Western Cape to Launch PWMSA and they will always refer to it as the older sister. Letter via the Editor At the last Crime Prevention Association meeting we were notified that the latest mechanism used by criminals to avoid detection is to wear very thick clothing and a hood to foil burglar alarm passive infra-red detectors.

Apparently the preferred clothing is the thick yellow type of raincoat with the hood up. The heat emanating from their bodies is so reduced that they are able to walk past PIR detectors without activating them.

If only this type of initiative could be productively used, just imagine what could be achieved!!
