Beauty prep for a wedding can be as daunting as all the other items on your everexpanding to-do list. Should you get a spray tan? Do you need a shellac manicure? Is a facial necessary? More important, when should you get the treatment? (Hint: Not on the morning of your wedding day!) To help ease your beauty-related worries, we asked the pros – including bride-to-be Meghan Markle’s glam squad – what you really need (and what you can skip!) for your big day.

On Facials … A pre-wedding skin treatment yields a smooth, glowing visage. Book a facial or take a page from the royal bride-to-be and try a cold laser treatment (also known as low-level laser therapy). Meghan would visit facialist Lorinda Zimmerman at W SkinCare while she was in Toronto filming Suits. “Cold laser rapidly heals the skin’s natural moisture barrier and addresses dark circles by boosting circulation in the skin, and over time can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles,” explains Lorinda. The result is a firmer, more luminous complexion. Lorinda recommends a series of treatments (a minimum of three) leading up to the big day. If a cold laser treatment isn’t within your budget, try a DIY facial at home. Make sure to exfoliate and enlist both a hydrating and brightening mask.
On Brows … If you’re looking to whip your arches into shape, start at least three months prior to the wedding day, advises Sherrille Riley, founder of London-based Nails & Brows, where Meghan gets her treatments done. If you covet fuller brows, give them at least six months to fully grow in, as the timing will vary from person to person. “Women with severely over-plucked brows may find that their hair follicles are permanently damaged, making it impossible to regrow hairs in certain areas.” If your brows are untouched, book a brow-shaping appointment with a pro five weeks before the wedding date. Another option is microblading, a form of semi-permanent tattoo that deposits pigment into your skin in the form of hairlike strokes. It’s a great alternative if you want something longer lasting. But remember to do it least six weeks in advance to allow for proper healing and the colour to settle, says Sherrille.

Avoid a dramatic dye job (like going from brunette to platinum blond) just before the wedding. “You want to look like yourself. What’s more, ask yourself why you’re doing it,” says Luis Pacheco, owner of Medulla & Co., and Meghan’s go-to colourist in Toronto. If you want a colour refresh, start with a six-month program before the wedding day, recommends Luis, and make sure you have a strong relationship with your colourist so you know exactly what you’re going get from him or her. “Do all the big work during those six months leading up to the wedding, and then go in for a little touch-up a week before, just to make sure everything is in place.”

The benefits of self-tanner have always been clear: faux glow, and no sun damage. It’s the results that haven’t lived up to the promise. Streaks, uneven fades, and orange tints have been common drawbacks of using self-tanner. Those days are over. We’ve reached a new dawn in the category, which is now led beauty trends and by encompasses skincare efits. If you ask bencelebrity tanner James Read, it all started a few years back when he introduced the first overnight tanning sleep mask. Luckily, that was just the beginning. Ideal for all skin types, use our Glow With It Jade Facial Roller on its own, to enhance the application of your favourite sheet mask, or simply massage over any serum, oil, or hydrator for increased absorption. On naked skin: Allow the weight of the stone to apply gentle pressure. Starting under the chin, roll downward on each side of the neck, then move in sections from jawline to forehead rolling from the centre of face outwards on each side. Roll over each section at least three times.
