A mold remediation consultant hired by the city to remediate occurrences of mold Feb. 29 at the Municipal Court Building did not do the job adequately, according to some city employees, while prior to the mold remediation effort, an investigation was launched by state health department officials to look into city employeesʼ mold concerns and possible health impacts. Based on a letter sent Feb. 13 by the state Department of Health Consumer, Environmental and Occupational Health Service to interim City Manager Jewel Thompson-Chin, the state is investigating the cityʼs Municipal Court “for alleged hazards [that] include poor indoor air quality, no ventilation or operable windows in offices and mold in the courtroom, offices and first floor,” said the letter. “Several employees are suffering from multiple symptoms,” said the state DOH notification. A copy of the state DOH letter was provided by city employees who requested anonymity. The letter noted the state had not yet determined whether such conditions exist but requested that Englewood “immediately investigate the alleged conditions and make any necessary corrections or modifications.” The letter required results of the cityʼs investigation to be transmitted to DOH within 15 days. Children as well as staff members and helpers were dressed in costumes ranging from princesses and queens, to superheroes and Star Wars characters. The festive event, held in the social hall of the synagogue on 1666 Windsor Road, was organized by a team of dedicated volunteers led by Rachel Eastman and her daughter Amanda.

Temple Emeth in Teaneck was a cavalcade of colorful costumes on the morning of March 8. Dozens of the Templeʼs youngsters from grades kindergarten through second and their parents participated in a carnival celebrating Purim, the most joyous of Jewish holidays.
