$12.5M FOR NEW SAFETY COMPLEX ? Council considers architectʼs concept

BY MICHAEL OLOHAN OF PASCACK PRESS

The governing body on Sept. 14 took its first look at a preliminary design for an estimated $12.5 million, 18,000-square-foot one-story-with-basement public safety complex on 3.25 acres at the corner of Rivervale Road and Prospect Avenue. The mayor and council listened to a presentation by Settembrino Architects of Red Bank, but did not yet give a green light to the proposal. Settembrino, hired 18 months ago on a $562,500 contract for architectural design services, told the governing body it estimates the facility could be ready for move-in in January 2023. Organizers of the Third Annual Boots and Badges softball tournament, which raises funds for the Tyron D. Franklin Computer Technology Center at Lebanon Baptist Church of Westwood, refused to succumb to Aprilʼs Covid-19 shutout. Thanks largely to the commitment and persistent effort of Westwood Police Sgt. Anthony Piccinich, the event was held Saturday, Sept. 19, on the cusp of fall, under a sunny, crisp, blue sky. Police recruit for Paterson Bavennia Franklin Marks, Tyronʼs sister, threw out the first pitch as her parents, LBC Pastor Belinda Howard and retired Paterson fire captain Larry Franklin—as well as her husband, Pastor Daniel Marks—proudly looked on. (Bavennia “Fauciʼd” the pitch, but hey, it was a windy day). Following in Tyronʼs law enforcement footsteps takes faith, courage, and commitment. These

are virtues the Franklin family possess in surplus. After the last pitch, LBCʼs Pastor JerQuentin Sutton said grace, with words of gratitude for the delicious post-game repast that the players, their families, and the many spectators enjoyed.
