HE MONTVALE seventhand eighth-grade softball team capped a dominant season June 11 with a dramatic walk-off victory, defeating River Dell, 3-2, in 10 innings in Montvale to capture the 2026 Kinderkamack Softball League spring championship.
The Mustangs finished the season 12-1 after posting a 9-1 regular-season record to earn the No. 2 seed in the league playoffs. The Mustangs opened the postseason June 1 with a 10-2 win over Westwood in Montvale before toppling Emerson, 7-3, in
extra innings June 3, also at home, to advance to the championship game. Before first pitch of the title game, Montvale Athletic League President Jim Kim performed the national anthem on

For years, if something important happened in Park Ridge, there was a very good chance Ned Barber was there to document it. For sure, he would have made much of the color, cheer, and stories spilling out of the Pascack Valleyʼs celebrations around the nationʼs 250th birthday. Barber, the longtime PKRGTV volunteer and former chairman who died June 14 at age 77 after a five-year battle with vascular dementia, is being remembered for decades spent curating the life of Park Ridge and the Pascack Valley—the meetings, parades, concerts, athletic events, ceremonies and conversations that help define and bind us. In recognition of those contributions, Park Ridge plans to name the control room at PKRG-TV in Barberʼs honor, according to his son, Mike Barber, and Nedʼs successor, Howard Fredrics. “He really wanted to see history documented before it was kind of lost to time,” said Mike Barber, a Park Ridge High School
