As we gather tonight for the 2025 Potomac Scholarship Auction, we are invited to embark on an “Out of This World ” adventure that celebrates our students’ limitless potential and the transformative power of a Potomac education. Our cosmic theme reminds us that the opportunities we provide our students have no boundaries. Our school has a remarkable legacy. Since 1904, Potomac has recognized the power of education. The pioneering spirit and forwardthinking approach of our three visionary founders laid the foundation of today—a school where innovation, creativity, and excellence are not only goals but also at the heart of everything we do. I am proud to carry that vision forward, ensuring that Potomac continues to thrive in this ever-changing world.
This year, the funds raised at this event will be pivotal in helping us propel our mission forward. The scholarships are more than just financial aid; they are pathways to opportunity, unlocking doors for deserving students to access all that Potomac offers. Additionally, your contributions fund the ongoing professional growth of our faculty, allowing them to advance their skills and remain leaders in the field of education.
Looking ahead, we are also excited about the next phase of our Growing Ever Greater campaign. With your support, we will be able to modernize our campus and strengthen Potomac’s endowment, ensuring we can continue offering an exceptional education for future generations.
I am deeply grateful to all of you who have joined us tonight and for your unwavering commitment to our school. You are a driving force behind Potomac’s ongoing success and the main reason we can successfully launch our students into their adult lives.
Thank you for being a part of our community and helping us reach for the stars. I encourage you to enjoy the evening’s festivities, place a bid, raise your paddle, and be a part of making tonight truly “Out of This World.”
All my best,
Head of School
Welcome to the 2025 Potomac Scholarship Auction! Tonight, we blast off under the theme “Out of This World,” where we celebrate the limitless potential of our students and the incredible journey of growth they embark on here at Potomac. From the first spark of curiosity to the extraordinary achievements they will one day claim, a Potomac education gives them the fuel they need to aim high and soar far beyond the stars.
For nearly five decades, this auction has been a beacon of support for our community, lighting the way to new opportunities for our students and teachers alike. It has always been a night that reflects the heart of our mission: empowering young minds, providing them with the tools to dream big, and making those dreams a reality. This year, thanks to your generous support, we continue that legacy. Our Fund a Scholar initiative has evolved into a true force, now generating almost $1 million—nearly 70% of the auction’s net revenue—and directly enabling scholarships for the bright and deserving students who call Potomac home.
Whether you’re bidding on an incredible travel adventure or simply a special moment with one of our teachers, remember that every bid, every paddle raised, is an investment in both our future and our present. The funds we raise tonight will help our students continue to aim for the stars while ensuring our faculty have the resources they need to continue their professional growth. Both of these pillars—the students and the teachers—are the engines that drive Potomac forward.
This event would not be possible without the vision and dedication of our remarkable auction co-chairs: Prima McGrew, Pamela Barris Rosenthal ’03, and Heather Zimmerman. Their passion, creativity, and countless hours of hard work have made tonight an unforgettable experience. On behalf of the entire Potomac community, I sincerely thank them for all they’ve done to make this event soar to new heights.
I offer my sincere gratitude to all of you who have joined us this evening. Your commitment to Potomac—whether through your presence, your generosity, or your belief in our mission—ensures that we continue to foster the kind of education that empowers students to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers in a world that needs their brilliance.
Go Well,
Welcome, cosmic panthers, to the Potomac School 2025 Scholarship Auction — “Out of This World!” Tonight, we invite you to embark on an interstellar journey of generosity. Each of you will be a part of this dazzling adventure by bringing your radiant energy and enthusiasm to make this night a blast!
Together, we are launching scholarships and professional development opportunities that will rocket our students and teachers to new horizons. Your support tonight helps support scholarships that open doors to unparalleled learning opportunities for qualifying and deserving students. This ensures access to top-tier education for those with financial restraints that may seem to put that goal out of reach. These scholarships also empower our dedicated teachers, providing them with professional development opportunities to expand their expertise and continue to inspire our students to explore.
We want to send a galactic-sized thank you to the amazing individuals, stellar businesses, and superstar volunteers who have made this event shine brighter than a supernova. A special orbit of gratitude goes to Christine Sharkey and the entire Advancement team for their gravity-defying dedication to ensuring this auction’s success—your support is a true guiding star for the Potomac community.
So fasten your seatbelts, prepare for liftoff, and let’s make March 1, 2025, a night that’s truly “Out of This World!”
Don’t forget to raise your paddles high and shoot for the stars—your bids are the rocket fuel that will propel this mission to success!
With our deepest appreciation and excitement,
Prima McGrew, Pamela Barris Rosenthal ’03, and Heather Zimmerman Co-Chairs, 2025 Scholarship Auction

Potomac’s auction website allows you to 1) bid on Silent Auction items, 2) preview Live Auction items, and 3) preview and bid on our Wine Auction.
✶ The Silent Auction begins online on Wednesday, February 19, at noon. Bidding will continue until the start of the Live Auction, except for items that are purchased through the “Buy It Now” option.
✶ Again this year, the school is using Greater Giving’s online platform for the Silent Auction. Please read the instructions below. You will create an account to bid on Silent Auction items through a browser on your home computer and/or mobile device.
✶ The Live Auction online preview begins on Wednesday, February 19. The preview provides the opportunity to see all of the items that will be available for bidding at the Live Auction on March 1. If you would like to place an absentee bid for a Live Auction item, email Christine Sharkey at csharkey@potomacschool.org by Thursday, February 27, at noon.
✶ The Live Auction will begin during dinner and will continue without interruption until all Live Auction items have been auctioned.
✶ If you would like to preview the items included in this year’s auction, log on to Potomac’s 2025 auction website: potomacs2025.ggo.bid. Click on the link on the main page for a preview. This page will become the Silent Auction bidding site when those portions of the Auction open on Wednesday, February 19, at noon. Potomac parents, grandparents, and friends will receive an email when the Silent Auction opens. This email will include instructions on how to bid as well as a registration link.
✶ Please be advised that each item has a specified minimum starting bid and minimum incremental bid. Bidding for the Silent Auction will close prior to the start of the Live Auction at approximately 8:15 pm on March 1, 2025. Bidders will be alerted prior to the closing of the Silent Auction, including by way of a countdown. The person offering the highest bid for an item at the close of Silent Auction bidding will be deemed the winner of the item and will be notified through text and/or email.
✶ Your bid paddle contains your personal bid number. A bid for the Live Auction is entered by raising your paddle and being recognized by the Auctioneer or their staff.
✶ Live Auction items are listed numerically in the catalog, and the Auctioneer will follow this sequence during the Live Auction.
✶ An acknowledged bid is a binding offer to purchase the applicable item(s). On the fall of the Auctioneer’s gavel (or other notification by the Auctioneer), the highest bidder will be the purchaser of the item.
✶ In the event of a bid dispute, the Auctioneer will act as the final authority in determining the winning bid.
Once you click the registration link in the email, you will be able to log in with your account information from prior events. If you are new to the system, you will be provided instructions for creating your account.
✶ If you do not receive an email when the Silent Auction opens, visit potomacs2025.ggo.bid. Once on the Auction page, click the green “Start Bidding” button and follow the prompts to either log in with an existing account or create a new account.
✶ Once you have an account, you will be able to bid on items. You can search for items by name or number using the magnifying glass, or by category under the menu on the left side of the page.
✶ When placing a bid, you have two options: select the next incremental bid amount or enter a larger amount. If you choose to bid more than the next incremental bid amount, you can set a maximum bid. In that case, the system automatically will bid in your favor
✶ When you arrive at the Spangler Center on the night of the event, please check in at the registration table. You will be assigned a bid number that you may use to bid on all Silent Auction and Live Auction items. This bid number functions as a legally binding signature for your bids at the Auction.
✶ All sales are final. No exchanges or refunds on Auction items are permitted. All items are sold “as is.” Please read specifications and restrictions carefully before placing a bid.
✶ Unless otherwise specified, all Auction items must be redeemed by March 1, 2026. Dates and times are to be arranged at the mutual convenience of the donor and the winning bidder. We suggest that initial contact be made with the donor within 14 days of the Auction. If you are having difficulty contacting a donor, please notify Potomac’s director of advancement events, Christine Sharkey, at (703) 749-6362 or csharkey@potomacschool.org.
✶ Auction items are not transferable from the winning bidder to anyone else without the donor’s express permission.
✶ Payment may be made with cash, personal check (payable to Potomac School Auction), American Express, Visa, or MasterCard. Payment in full the evening of the Auction is required. A single statement is issued for each winning bid (including group purchases). Checks are preferred, as they maximize proceeds to the school.

Experience a spectacular evening at Chef Stefanelli’s Michelin-starred restaurant featuring innovative Italian cuisine with touches of coastal cultures. At this evening’s dinner for 12, you will enjoy a customized five-course tasting menu to complement wines selected from boutique vintners chosen by their Sommelier. Savor and enjoy!
Masseria, Chef Nicholas Stefanelli’s first restaurant, is a celebration of big, harmonious flavors and the fine Italian cooking that shaped Chef’s palate as a child. The restaurant is named for the charming agricultural estates of the Puglia region, where Chef Stefanelli’s family heritage is rooted. With such inspiration, Chef Stefanelli approaches hosting guests in his own restaurant as more of a lifestyle than a profession, taking the pretense out of fine dining in favor of heartfelt hospitality and honest cooking.
With such attention and care, the Masseria concept has achieved considerable acclaim. In 2016, Masseria earned one star in Washington, DC’s first-ever Michelin Guide, an honor it has received every year since. In 2015, Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema selected the newly opened Masseria as third among his top 10 favorite restaurants in Washington, DC. Washingtonian Magazine selected Masseria to the #12 spot in its list of the city’s ‘Top 100 Very Best Restaurants’ for 2016. The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington nominated Masseria in the category of ‘New Restaurant of the Year’ and ‘Pastry Chef of the Year’ for 2016. The following year, RAMW named their ‘Pastry Chef of the Year,’ and in 2018, Masseria was awarded the distinction of ‘Formal Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year.’

Back by popular demand! A gourmet meal will be prepared in your home and served to you and your seven guests, along with a customized selection of amazing French and American wines.
The theme of this evening is inspired by the landmark tasting in 1976 called the Judgement of Paris, in which French experts agreed that the California wines they tasted “blind” were better than their French counterparts. The result was a blot on French national pride and shocked the country’s wine industry.
During the evening, you and seven guests will reenact the Judgement of Paris.
Top-rated vintages from exceptional U.S. and French winemakers will be pitted against each other, and you and your guests can decide which region is superior! Selections include Peter Michael Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille 2021, Lamy Pillot Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2021, Ch d’Armailhac Pauillac Grand Cru Classe 2015, Ch Lascombes Margaux Grand Cru Classe 2015, Spottswoode Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2021, and Cade Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 2021.
The wine-tasting dinner will take place in your home, where you can relax as local favorite Susan Gage Caterers pampers you with a unique five-course tasting menu and excellent service. Our only request is that you “blind” taste and report your results. Will the Americans prevail again? Cheers, and bon appétit!
Restrictions: Tax and gratuity are not included. The event to be held on a mutually agreeable date; it is not available on any Saturday night or between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
