Hellos and goodbyes...

WelcometoVictoriaAllen,newChiefExecutiveofPath(PlymouthAccesstoHousing).Victoriaistakingover fromMikeTaylor,whoisstandingdownafter19yearsinthepost.

Victoriapreviouslyservedasatrusteefor2yearsandhasbeenaseniormanageratbothPlymouthCity CouncilandtheTheatreRoyal.AsPath’sCEO,shewilljointheAllianceLeadershipTeam,overseeingthe developmentandrunningofTheAlliance.

Path,whichhasover50staffmembers,carriesoutroughsleepingwork,provisionofhousingsupportand privaterentedaccesswork,whilstalsodirectlyprovidingaccommodationforsinglepeopleandfamilies. Indeed,thisyearwillseePathtakingonmorepropertiestoaddtoitshousingprovision,buyingandleasing accommodationforthoseinneed.

So,HamoazesaidgoodbyetoMarkBignellafterover20yearsofservicetothelocalcommunity.Wehada verysunnyafternooninthegarden,attendedbyover40pastandpresentserviceusersandfamily members.LotsofanecdotesandgratitudeforMarkandhispersonalcompassiontowardpeople,butalso hisleadershiphereinkeepingHamoazeasaservicedrivenbyrelationship,connection,andcommunity.

Inmy29yearsworkingindrugtreatmentIhaveneverseenaleaving‘do’likeit,anditisperhapsonethat weshouldallaspireto.ThatIamseenassomeonewhocantakethebatonfromMark,(andRoma!),isboth humblingandexciting IplantodoallIcantonurtureandgrowourtrulyrelationalmodelofservice,and continuetoprovideanoasisforthoseinpain,andtheirfamilies.

Hamoazeholdsaveryuniqueplaceinourcitylandscape,aninspiringplacetoworkwherethereisa tangiblesenseofcommunitywithpeopleusingourservice,whereeveryonematters,andwedon’tdo perfect

Plymouth Resettlement Support Service (PRSS)

PlymouthResettlementSupportServiceisforpeoplewhohavecometoPlymouthviadispersalorthrough relevantschemestosettleintotheCitytohelpthemfindstability,joinitscultureandtodiscoverthe opportunitiesthatareopentothem.Itisdeliveredbyapartnershipoforganisationswithlonghistoriesof,and strongcommitmentsto,supportingrefugeesintheCity.

Plymouthhaslongenabledandsupportedpeoplefleeingconflict,inrecentyearswelcomingpeoplefromSyria andUkraineamongstmanyothercountries.Thispartnershipbringstogethervariousservicestoensuresupport forpeopletoenablethemtomakesenseof,andsettleinto,theirnewenvironment.Weaimtobuildlinks, bolsterself-esteemandhelppeoplefindbelongingwithinthewiderRefugeecommunityandhelppeople accessthewidercommunity.

Thepartneragenciesthereforeworkcollaborativelytoprovideawiderangeofsupportactivitiesthatenable individualsandfamiliesto: meettheiraspirations feelasenseofbelonging buildontheirassets,skills,andattributessothattheyfeelsettled,regaintheirsenseofidentity,andcan participatefullyinsociety.

Theserviceaimsto: providesupporttosecureandmaintainaccommodation helppeopleunderstandandexerciserightsandentitlementslivingintheUK supportindividualself-sufficiencythroughdevelopingemployabilityskills,Englishlanguageclassesand settingupbenefits addressinghealthoutcomes

EachpartnerprovidesservicesandsupportforrefugeesandothersbeyondwhatitcommissionedbyPCCfor PRSS,sothattherearearangeofactivitiesandopportunitiesviamembers,fromaccesstohealthcaretosocial andsupportactivitiesandgroups.

Wednesdays-HannahTaylor(MentalHealthPractitioner, CAMHSTransitions)-Hannahcanofferanadvisoryroleto otherprofessionalsaboutpossiblementalhealthsupportand otherservicesthatmightbeappropriatefortheirserviceusers.

Wednesdayafternoons–RubyLee(PCCCommunity ConnectionsOfficerforU25s)-RubyLeecanseeayoung personforaplannedappointmentifshehascapacityon Wednesdayafternoons.Ifshedoesn’thavecapacitytosee themthereandthenshecanbookthemanappointmentwith eitherheroracolleaguetostartahomelessnessapplication.

Thursdayafternoonsfrom1pm

–AngieCurtis(SPARKOutreachWorkerforYoungWomenaged18-25)youngwomenaged18-25caneitherturnuponThursdayafternoonsorbereferredtoAngieCurtiswhocan meetwiththemonotherdaysduringherworkingweek.AngierunstheSPARKLESGrouponWednesday afternoonsattheSunflowerCentre.PleaseseeacopyoftheposterforSPARKLESabove.

HSBCNoFixedAddressBankAccountsUpdate

ZAPhasbeenanapprovedreferralpartnerwithHSBCsinceJuly2021andhasreferred66youngpeoplefor aNoFixedAddressBankAccount.

ZAPiscurrentlyundergoingare-enrolment processwithShelterwhoareanationalpartner withHSBConthisscheme Wehopetoresume thisservicewithinthenextfewweeksoncethe requiredcheckshavebeencompleted

HarbourwasjoinedbyGeorgeCharlton–IndependentConsultanttodevelopapeer-to-peerNaloxone projectinPlymouth.WewerejoinedatHarbouronMonday20thMayfrommanystakeholdersinthecity includingAlliancepartners,commissioners,Police,Probationandthehospital Wewerealsojoinedby7 potentialpeers.

Inthefirstmonth,thepeerswentfromstrengthtostrength.Theycontinuedtotrainstaffandvisitorsto HarbourandstartedtogetoutinthecommunityanddeliveredNaloxonetraining,harmreduction informationaboutNitazenesanddistributednaloxonekitstoindividualsandorganisations

PORTexpansionacrosstheAlliance

InJuly2023,ateamfromHarbour,LivewellandHIPPsetupPlymouthOverdoseResponseTeam(PORT) whichaimstodeliveraharmreductionbasedinterventiontopeoplewhohaveexperiencedanon-fatal overdose Theevidenceavailabletellsusthatapersonwhoexperiencesanon-fataloverdoseisathigh riskofdeathofthefollowing28dayspostoverdose.

PORThasbeendeliveredatDevonportLifehouse,BCHAGeorgeHouseandBCHASupported Accommodation. FollowinganagreementatALTinJune2024,eachAlliancepartnerwillidentifyone memberofstafftojoinaroundtablediscussiontoplantheexpansionofPORTtoincludeallAlliance Partners.

PartnershipsandPathwaysSessions

Wearenowtakingbookingsforthelasttwosessionsofthe year-sessionswilltakeplaceonTuesday15October (substanceuse)andWednesday20November (homelessness),atHydeParkHouse,startingat9:30am until12pm.

PartnershipsandPathwayssessionsaimtogetstafffrom Alliancemembersandsubcontractorstogether.We wantpeopletolearnmoreaboutotherservices,build relationshipsandlinksandunderstandandimprove pathways.

Weintendforthesesessionstobebasedaroundmutualrespect,participationandsharedlearning.Weask thatpeoplelistentoandvalueeachother,usingapositiveandproblem-solvingapproach.

Hamoaze House have started a GoFundMe page to raise some funds to turn part of their garden into a memorialspotforanyonewhohasbeenaffectedbythelossofalovedonetosubstances.
