Members of The Paulinian joined in Explained PH Virtual Journalism Camp Skills Enhancement Series for Campus Journalism last November 25-26, 2023 via Zoom.

Participated by student journalists and school paper advisers in the Philippines, the two-day event featured a diverse lineup of distinguished speakers, each specializing in different facets of journalism. The sessions featured a holistic approach to journalism, aimed to equip attendees with the tools and expertise across various journalistic domains.

College studes join UBAYA ‘23

Selected College students joined the UBAYA Online Summer Program 2023 from November 27 to December 01, 2023, via Zoom.

With the theme, “ChatGPT, Artificial Intelligence & Metaverse for Our Daily Life,” the program was designed to teach the participants how to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI), ChatGPT, and Metaverse.

The first session was the orientation and introduction to UBAYA. The second session, on the other hand, was a webinar entitled “Big Data: How big is it?” while the third session was entitled “Artificial Intelligence: Buddies or Enemies.”

Session four discussed the emergence of cybersecurity threats and how to mitigate them, while session five was an Indonesia

Virtual Tour. On November 30, sessions six and seven webinars are entitled “Indonesian Language for our Daily Life” and “AI for Everyone: Making Life Smoother.”

For the last day, session eight talked about “ChatGPT: Your Virtual Dialogue Partner,” while session nine was about “Metaverse Marvels: Navigating the Virtual Universe.”

The sessions were loaded with valuable content, ensuring the engagement of every participant in the program.

The University of Surabaya (Ubaya), Indonesia, organized the Ubaya Online Summer Program 2023, headed by Adi Tedjakusuma. Apart from the webinars, the student participants interacted with others worldwide. [P]

Student leaders attend BOLD ‘23

With the theme, “Paulinian leaders in Commission, Participation & Mission,” this two-day activity is an avenue to develop their leadership capabilities and become active-servant leaders, community builders, and adequate resources for community development.

Sister Jennifer Dayday, SPC, the Vice President for Christian Formation, commenced the activities of the first day with a welcome message, sparking a renewed sense of purpose and enthusiasm for their leadership journeys.

Attendees then engaged in an energizer that the High School CBS Officers initiated.

10th SPC-FSP National Assembly held at SPCIS

by Emerald Fiona Serrano The 10th National Assembly of the SPCFriends of St. Paul brought together fervent attendees from various Paulinian schools across the Philippines on October 14-15, 2023 at St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur. This gathering served as an avenue for exchanging experiences and ideas among lay individuals and SPC sisters from different educational institutions devoted to the Paulinian legacy.

The event commenced with a Eucharistic Celebration that was presided over by Msgr.

Gary Noel S. Formoso and followed by a welcome dinner and program organized by the SPCIS-FSP community.

The Opening Program on Day One ignited discussions, leading to group-sharing sessions and the presentation of cluster action plans geared towards advancing shared objectives. Discussions included Paulinian Gleaners’ Prayer Spirituality by Sr. Aileen Bonifacio, SPC, and Mental Wellness

by Mr. Ajocrivipor Agojo & Ms. Marjiemae Lorenzo. The day concluded with an anticipated Mass presided by Fr. Jonathan Bitoy, and an exploration at Calle Crisologo.

Day Two continued with a Closing Liturgy and the initiation of a tour across Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. The tour showcased various significant sites, including the Paulinian landmark in Pandan, Caoayan, the Apo Caridad Shrine, and St. William’s Institute in Magsingal. The journey continued to the Minor Basilica of St. Nicolas de Tolentino in Sinait.

The 10th National Assembly of SPCFriends of St. Paul is a testament to unity, reflection, and progressive action, fostering a stronger bond among Paulinians as they embrace their heritage and values. [P]

SPCIS to plant 5K trees; College studes take lead

by Princess Kyra Rebula To instill a sense of responsibility and care for the environment among Paulinian students, St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur initiated tree-planting activities with the goal of planting 5,000 trees for the next three years.

With the theme, “Planting Dreams: Growing a Greener Paulinian Advocacy,” the tree-planting activity initiative was kickstarted by four-year college students and integrated into the GED 107 Contemporary World and Rel Ed 107 courses under Mr. Edmundo Bunagan, Mr. Michael Martinez, and Mr. Jay Manuel Salvador. The activity is in collaboration with SPCIS Community Extension Services headed by Sr. Jennifer Dayday, SPC. Nursing students commenced their tree-planting and coastal cleaning at Camp Elpidio Quirino in Bulag, Bantay. The students from the Department of Arts and Sciences and Teacher Education and the Department of Business, Hospitality, and Tourism Management followed after.

The initiative ws done in partnership with the Commission on Ecology-Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia, headed by Fr. Jayvie Benzon, and Ilocos Sur Provincial Police Office, led by Police Colonel Darnell T. Dulnuan, Acting Provincial Director. Apart from treeplanting, students also did coastal cleanup.

Aligning its efforts with Laodato Si’ of Pope Francis and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), SPCIS aims to involve every stakeholder in the institution.

This initiative symbolizes a numerical target and serves as a powerful educational tool, instilling a sense of responsibility and environmental awareness in students. [P]

SPCISAA holds medical, dental, optical mission

The St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur Alumni Association (SPCISAA) initiated a MedicalDental-Optical Mission on October 28, 2023, at Pe’re Louis Chauvet Hall.

With the theme “Paulinians Give Hope,” the event aimed to provide primary health care needs to those in need through service and care.

Various medical services, including eye tests, dental checkups, and medical consultations - were provided to the residents of the barangays San Mariano, Zone 4, and Zone 6 of Bantay, Ilocos Sur, together with San Pedro, Vigan City. Apart from receiving health care checkups, they were provided multivitamins, medicines, and hot meals.

Selected 2nd year and 4th year Bachelor of Science in Nursing students, together with their clinical instructors, helped determine patients’ vital signs and assessed each one’s respective health conditions, which were eventually relayed to the physicians,

SPCIS celebrates Museums and Galleries Month

Saint Paul College of Ilocos Sur takes part in the national celebration of Museums and Galleries Month through visits in museums around Vigan City on October 11, 18, and 20, 2023.

The Vigan City Museum, the Ilocos Sur Livelihood Museum, and the National Museum of the Philippines – Ilocos were among the museums visited.

With the theme, “Exhibits and Reflections: Crafting Opportunities for the New World,” this endeavor aims to let the students engage in art forms from different regions and allow them to interpret humanity and ingenuity with the given masterpieces and artifacts displayed in each museum Technology for Teaching and Learning 2 and Art Appreciation students participated in the said museum visit. The members of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) Region 1 + Abra convened for a strategic planning workshop on August 25-26, 2023 at Azala Residences in Baguio City.

Mr. Edmundo Bunagan, the planning and external relations director, represented the institution in the event that aimed to create an operational plan revolving around solidarity and synodality, transformative education, and discernment and advocacy.

Other topics discussed during the activity included the perspectives and developments from the national socio-economic-political situationer, perspectives from the local and universal Church, and identification and planning of significant activities for the next three years. [P]

DBHTM Studes Achieve Studes haul awards in provincial, regional National Statistics Month tilts 100% Passing Rate

Several College students bagged awards during the provincial and regional competitions in celebration of the 34th National Statistics Month (NSM) held on October 2023.

With the Theme: “Accelerating Progress: Promoting Data and Statistics for Healthy Philippines,” the said celebration aimed to promote, enhance, and instill awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of the society. In addition, it also aims to elicit the cooperation and support of the general-public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

The provincial competitions were held on October 12-13, 2023. Ralph Angelo Tactay, BSEd 3, bagged the Championship title in the Oratorical Competition, tertiary level Ma. Julia Margaret Maliksi, BSA 1, and Joseph Zildjan Ricafrente, BSEd 3, bagged the first-runner up and second-runner up

awards in Infographics making contest, respectively.

Princess Kyra Rebula, BEED 2, secured the Championship title on the Essay writing contest, whereas Krizadelle Damaso, BSA 1, won as the second runner-up.

Being champions in their respective competitions, both Rebula and Tactay represented the province during the regional competitions held at San Fernando, La Union on October 17-18, 2023.

Rebula was declared the Champion in the Essay Writing Contest. Her piece explored the role of statistics in society.

Tactay, on the other hand, secured the 2nd Runner-Up spot in the Oratorical Contest.

Mrs. Marites Rojas, Mr. Mark Francis Astom, and Mr. Michael Martinez served as coaches for the oratorical contest, essay writing contest, and infographics making contest, respectively. [P]

by Marc Chester Polonio Students from the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) programs of St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur achieve a 100% passing rate in the National Certificate II (NCII) Cookery examination.

The second-Year Hospitality and Tourism students took the test at Siglat Center in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, on October 27, 2023.

The NCII Cookery certification, administered by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), is a testament to the student’s proficiency in culinary techniques and ability to meet industry standards. [P]

The College Department commenced the academic year 2023-2024 with a series of orientations for students and parents on August 22 and 26, 2023, respectively, at the Bishop Rooker Audi-Gymnasium on August 22, 2023.

Sister Merceditas Ang, SPC, School President, virtually welcomed the college community.

The SPC sisters, the lay administrators, the faculty, the staff, and maintenance personnel were presented to the community.

Orientation on the Paulinian Core Values, the school’s policies on academics and on discipline were presented by Sister Jennifer Dayday, SPC, Dr. Katrina Joy Naval, and Ms. Vicker, Albano, respectively. [P]

DBHTM Studes Bag Awards at World Tourism Week ‘23

by Tanya Marie Retuta As part of the celebration of World Tourism Week, selected students from the Department of Business, Hospitality, and Tourism Management (DBHTM) participated in the series of activities on September 25-26, 2023, held at the Provincial Farmer’s Livelihood Development Center and Vigan Convention Center with the theme “Tourism and Green Investment.”

Several tourism organizations and associations and hospitality and tourism program students from various schools and universities in the province participated in the celebration.

As part of the celebration, the City Government hosted the Tour Guiding and Tourism Quiz Bee in collaboration with the City Cultural Affairs and Tourism Office (CCATO) and the Committee on Tourism and Heritage Conservation.

It reflects her gratitude and well-wishes, emphasizing appreciation and the desire for the Ilokano culture to thrive.

Studes pay tribute in Employee’s Day Celeb

by Mikaella Julie Yee The students honored the invaluable contributions of the faculty and nonteaching staff of the institution through an Employees’ Day Celebration on October 6, 2023.

Organized by the different departmental organizations of the College department, the celebration commenced with a Eucharistic Celebration. After which, breakout programs took place wherein the Department of Nursing convened at Bishop Rooker Audi-gym while the Department of Arts & Sciences and Teacher Education and Department of Business and Tourism and Hospitality Management had their celebration at the Pe’re Louis Chauvet Hall.

A series of engaging activities and performances awaited the teachers. Students showed their tributes and expressions of appreciation through dances and songs for the teachers’ unwavering dedication and relentless efforts in shaping young minds and their futures.

Expressing her thoughts on the occasion, Dr. Luz Astom, Program Chair of the DASTE remarked during the program that it was overwhelming to see such love and appreciation from the students. “It reaffirms our commitment to nurturing and guiding these young minds,” she added.

The event concluded, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of employees and students alike. [P]

Construction of new College building in full swing

A look at the construction of the new college building.

Paulinian students anticipate the rise of a new college building as construction takes full swing this school year following its groundbreaking ceremony on June 20, 2023.

To cater to the growing population of students at the tertiary level, St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur is looking forward to having its new building dedicated solely to the college department.

The said building will be called the Rosary College Building, located beside the swimming pool area and beside the Pe’re Louis Chauvet Hall.

Aside from bearing the former name of the school, the new building will also carry the architectural design of the old Rosary College building in Vigan City, now Mart One.

Sister Merceditas O. Ang, SPC, school president, led the historic time capsule digging during the groundbreaking ceremony last June, and the construction started immediately in August. The first phase is expected to be finished in June 2024 with eight classrooms and two comfort rooms, one for the ladies and another for the gentlemen.

On the other hand, plans for the construction of the second phase of the college building, which will include the facade, additional classrooms, and other offices is already in the works.

The new college building will pave the way for a more comprehensive St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur from kindergarten to college, as each department will already have its respective areas said Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC. College lecture rooms are currently situated on the second floor of the Holy Rosary College Building, with its first and third floors designated for the high school classrooms. [P]

Sr. Sahlee Palijo, SPC is appointed as DON Dean

by John Rey Naval and Ralph Angelo Tactay Sister Honorata Sahlee Trinilyn Palijo, SPC, is welcomed by the Nursing student body on August 22, 2023 after having been appointed as the Dean of the Department of Nursing (DON).

Due to the growing number of students in the deparment, having a dean designated to ensure quality instruction while training students to become better Paulinian nurses would foster continuous development of the Nursing program.

Prior to her appointment as the dean of the Department of Nursing, Sister Sahlee served as the Dean of the College of Health Sciences at St. Paul University Surigao for 12 years. Additionally, she was also appointed to various positions during her tenure at SPUS. These include being the local superior, corporate secretary of the board, health services leader, and a professor of Master of Arts in Nursing students at the institution's graduate school.

Before her appointment at SPU Surigao, she was also assigned to St. Paul University Quezon City, where she served as the dean of the College of Health Sciences and Program Chair of Nursing for six years.

As the new dean of the Department of Nursing, Sister Sahlee aims to elevate the quality of instruction and the formation of Paulinian students. “We plan to subject the Nursing program to accrediting bodies,” she said, “this is to ensure the quality of education that SPCIS offers.” [P]

SPCIS celebrates legacy with Mural Wall of Gratitude

As a tribute to the founding sisters, successors, collaborators, and supporters, St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur unveils the “Mural Wall of Gratitude: An Edifice of Paulinian Christian Education Over the Years,” situated at the walls outside of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary building.

This testament pays homage to the first seven zealous and devoted Sisters, their successors, the dedicated lay collaborators, bishops, archbishops, parents, alumni, and local government officials who have tirelessly championed the cause of education and evangelization within the institution.

Sister Merceditas O. Ang, SPC, School President, initiated the Mural Wall of Gratitude project, strategically aligning it with the school’s goal to become an ecotourism destination. With its substantial history, educational contributions, and proximity to a tourist spot, SPCIS aims to offer a cultural and historical experience through this initiative.

country, particularly in the Ilocandia Region. Through the years, SPCIS, formerly known as Rosary College, has produced many Paulinian graduates who are making a significant impact globally in various fields.

“Come home, Paulinians! Strike a pose at our 3D Mural Painting and discover the cultural heritage of SPCIS. As we approach our 120th foundation anniversary in 2025, let’s journey through history and celebrate the legacy of St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur,” Sr. Merceditas encourages.

The mural will serve as a source of inspiration, fostering a deeper connection to the institution’s rich history and values. As the project aligns with the school’s strategic goals, it is poised to enhance the overall educational experience and contribute to the development of the school as an eco-tourism destination.

As the St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur community celebrates this monumental achievement, the Mural Wall of Gratitude stands tall, echoing the spirit of gratitude and resilience that defines the institution’s legacy. [P]

On the second day, student leaders explored leadership concepts with speakers like Mr. Joachim Sebastian Ridulme, an alumnus of the high school department and part of Project Blue, who shared insights on sustainable advocacy programs.

Mr. Edmundo Bunagan, the External Relations Director, detailed the PDCA Cycle, emphasizing goal setting and action planning as crucial for effective leadership.

Rev. Fr. Jaybee Benzon highlighted the role of the Church in nurturing care for the environment. The two-day event culminated with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration and Induction of Officers.

Organized by the Student Affairs Unit of the institution, BOLD equipped student leaders with theoretical knowledge, practical tools, and a strong sense of responsibility for community development and service. [P]

The program also featured an awarding ceremony that recognized the winners of various academic contests.

For essay writing, Colleen Sharlotte Abella and Marc Chester Polonio won the high school and college categories, respectively.

For poem writing, Joaquine Roderno and Emerald Fiona Serrano won the high school and college categories, respectively. For poster making, Gian Andrei Baldos and Ray Louis Anthony Valerio won the high school and college categories, respectively.

This celebration brought together people from diverse backgrounds and fostered an appreciation for the rich cultural tapestry of indigenous communities. It left students and teachers with a profound sense of the importance of preserving and celebrating the traditions and rights of the indigenous peoples. [P]

SPCIS holds living rosary

To culminate the Rosary Month celebration, St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur held a living rosary event in front of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Building on October 27, 2023, uniting students and faculty from all levels across departments.

Organized by the Campus Ministry, the living rosary highlighted the institution’s spiritual richness and the power of communal prayer in fostering camaraderie and shared purpose among students and faculty.

The quadrangle turned into a sacred space filled with prayers and hymns as selected students formed a human chain,

embodying rosary beads, fostering a sense of togetherness and spiritual connection.

The serene setting, adorned with candles and flowers, enhanced the event’s peaceful atmosphere. Several students also donned different attires that represent the different images of the Blessed virgin Mary.

This successful event reflects the school’s commitment to holistic education, emphasizing spiritual growth and community engagement. St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur remains dedicated to fostering unity, faith, and collective prayer among its members. [P]

DASTE Studes join PAFTE Research Congress

Studes attend multimodal text seminar

Students from the Department of Arts and Sciences and Teacher Education (DASTE) participated in the students’ congress organized by the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE) Region 1 on October 6, 2023, via Zoom.

The said program aimed to build connections with each Teacher Education Institutions (TEI) in the region and foster insights into the field of internalization and research in Teacher Education.

Joining the DASTE students in the congress were students and teachers from various TEIs of the different state universities and colleges in the region.

As part of the congress, selected teacher education students presented their action research outputs. After which, Dr. Christian Gandeza of the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) lectured on the concepts needed in writing action research.

The program concluded with the closing remarks of Dr. Myrna Carreon, Vice Chairwoman of the PAFTE-R1. [P]

With the theme, “Growth and Transformation towards Excellence,” the recognition program highlights the cumulative achievements of students for the past school year.

In addition, Mr. Edmundo Bunagan, the Student Affairs Coordinator, presented the officers of different students organizations and highlighted the importance of acknowledging their contributions. [P]

by Mikaela Jhelamae Agustin In pursuit of quality learning, students taking the course “Purposive Communication,” attended a seminar on the Use of Multimodal Texts on October 25, 2023, at the Bishop Rooker AudiGymnasium.

Dr. Katrina Joy Naval, Vice President for Academics and instructor on Purposive Communication, gave her welcome remarks to the students, explaining the essence of getting to know what Multimodal texts can do in their lives as learners and their next endeavors.

Mr. Tom Ishrael Filart, Subject Team Leader in English of the High School Department, served as the speaker of the seminar. He shared his expertise on Multimodal Texts, and how to create outputs using multimodal texts.

The endeavor paved way for these students to help comply with one of their requirements in their Purposive Communication course which is to make a creative presentation on the Englishes of the World through the use of Multimodal Texts. [P]

Research Confab

by Mark Francis Astom Several faculty and non-teaching staff presented their research papers during the 6th SPUP International Interdisciplinary Conference held on August 10-12, 2023, at St. Paul University of the Philippines.

With the theme, “Research for Educational, Sustainable, and Environmental Actions for Resilient Community and Humanity,” the conference aimed to promote innovative solutions to societal issues by conducting interdisciplinary investigations while generating new knowledge and solutions that could foster services and policies toward sustainability.

Around 300 researchers, educators, and enthusiasts from different countries and disciplines participated in the event.

Dr. Katrina Joy Naval presented her study that explores beginning teachers’ teaching performance, which serves as a basis for the support and training program of new educators. Meanwhile, Dr. Wendell Lived also presented his study that aimed to translate a community health nursing learning material into the Filipino language.

Moreover, Mr. Mark Francis Astom discussed his study that explored the experiences of STEM students of distance learning in science in the new normal.

Mr. Allen Pre elaborated on his study that explored the lived experiences of solo librarians in selected private schools in the province of Ilocos Sur. Finally, Ms. Veronica Raras elucidated the learning styles and academic performance of grade 6 pupils of SPCIS. SPCIS continues to intensify the research capabilities among faculty and non-teaching staff of the institution with the second session of the Research Training Series on November 25, 2023, at the Institutional Audio-Visual Room.

Organized by the Research and Publication Office headed by Dr. Wendell Lived, the second session covered Quantitative Research Designs and Basic Statistical Analysis for Classroom-Based Action Research (CBAR), which aims to provide more information on enhancing

each classroom’s learning environment.

Dr. Joseph Taban, the guest speaker for the event, shared his knowledge of various statistical tools used in CBAR and provided research outputs that can serve as the foundation for developing action research.

To further assist the faculty in creating their research outputs, Dr. Lived echoed the concepts of making the research plan work and sense-making of action research data.

The day ended with a workshop where the faculty and non-teaching staff formulated their research titles. [P]

Organized by Dr. Wendell Lived, the Research and Publication Office Director, the event aimed to showcase significant research results from research outputs by college faculty and staff for school year 2022-2023.

Mrs. Rowena Pipo elucidated on her research, “Mental Ability of First Year College Students of S.Y. 2022-2023.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Katrina Joy Naval discussed “Level of Satisfaction of Graduates on Teacher Education Programs of Saint Paul College of Ilocos Sur.” Ms. Shantel Alquiza elaborated hr study, “Preferred Livelihood Program of the Residents at San Mariano, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.” Dr. Luz Astom explored the “Concerns of Pre-service Teachers: A Basis for a Capacity Building Program.”

Finally, Dr. Wendell Lived discussed “Stakeholder’s Satisfaction on SPCIS Research Program.” [P]

In preparation for SY 2023-2024, all employees of St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur attended a pre-opening seminar and perspective setting on September 9, 2023, at the Levesville-La-Chenard Formation Center Conference Room.

Aimed at providing transformative and value-added quality Paulinian education, the event consisted of various talks that focused on streamlining the perspective of employees for the school year while equipping them with information on trends that could help them in their roles.

It was spearheaded by Sister Merceditas Ang, SPC, the school president, who set a virtuous perspective as she outlined the goals for SPCIS and made a point of meeting the institution’s direction.

On the other hand, Dr. Katrina Naval, Vice President for Academics and Quality Assurance Director, Dr. Wendell Lived, Research and Publication Director, and Mr. Edmundo Bunagan, Director for Planning and External Relations, delivered their respective talks, which focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on Education, the Research and Innovation in SPCIS, and Integrating Sustainable Development Goals, respectively. MATATAG Curriculum: Rethinking Education or Restructuring Challenges?

In response to the challenges surrounding the K-12 curriculum, the Department of Education (DepEd) has taken a bold step forward with launching the MATATAG Curriculum, an initiative aimed at fortifying the educational foundation for students nationwide. Last August 10, Vice President and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte launched MATATAG: Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa, signaling a new course for the agency and stakeholders in addressing basic education challenges.

As we navigate the complexities of this approach, the question arises: Is it a beacon guiding us to rethink education, or does it present a formidable challenge in restructuring long-standing traditions?

DepEd was able to decrease the learning competencies from 11,000 to 3,000 in the MATATAG Curriculum. The reduction in competencies is a commendable move, allowing a more in-depth focus on crucial skills such as literacy, numeracy, and socioemotional development during the formative years of education. Moreover, emphasis on learners’ values and character development, aligning with the Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) and Values Education Act, is a positive step. This contributes to students’ holistic development and fosters a sense of responsibility and ethical behavior.

The focus on these foundational skills might be applauded, but a narrow focus on these skills might overshadow other vital aspects of education. Furthermore, a potential contradiction also arises with President BBM supporting the curriculum while appointing Atty. Larry Gadon, a

disbarred lawyer with a history of verbal assault, as the adviser for poverty alleviation.

It could potentially undermine the values the curriculum seeks to instill, as students may perceive dissonance between the expected standards of conduct and the actions of a high-profile appointee.

One significant arena feeling its potential impact is the possible revision of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor

Alignment with DepEd’s curriculum is essential for teacher education.

Synchronization with the said curriculum can ensure that pre-service teachers are

Senator Win Gatchalian restated his plea to the Teacher Education Council (TEC) to guarantee the synchronization of the teacher education programs and training with the K-10 MATATAG Curriculum. This alignment can lead to more relevant and effective teacher training, better-equipping educators for the evolving needs of basic education.

Furthermore, the said curriculum offers an opportunity for higher education institutions to enhance teacher education programs. The reduction in competencies can prompt potential revisions to the content and structure of the programs of BEEd and BSEd. Moreover, the potential for frequent changes in the curriculum poses challenges affecting their stability and long-term planning. Tribuzzi, J. (2018) stated that “while curriculum changes may appear to be well-planned and purposeful toward the goals of the school improvement, changes that occur too frequently may have the opposite effect on the work of the school.”

Continuous adjustments may require universities and colleges to constantly revise their programs, impacting the consistency and depth of teacher training.

With the MATATAG Curriculum as our guiding force, let us embrace the potential positive transformation that the MATATAG Curriculum offers. With support, we can propel the Philippines toward a robust and steadfast education system, ensuring a MATATAG foundation for the future success of every Filipino student. [P]

Unfiltered Reality: PISA’s Wake-Up Call

Recently, the spotlight focused on the recent Miss Universe Philippines Michelle Dee – who deserves a higher placement, and the buzz around celebrity breakups. Yet, a muted crisis often tiptoes in the shadows— the overlooked state of education in the Philippines.

As these debates over beauty pageants and the latest celebrity heartbreak claim the forefront of public attention, the urgency of illuminating our educational crisis becomes more than a necessity—it evolves into a foundational element for building a resilient and flourishing future amid challenges relegated to the periphery.

The recent Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results have cast a stark light on the state of Philippine education, revealing an unfiltered reality.

According to the 2022 PISA results, Filipino students find themselves trailing behind their global peers by a substantial margin— five to six years in the academic arenas of mathematics, science, and reading. Of 81 countries, the Philippines ranked 77th in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development assessment of 15-year-old students.

While we are engrossed in the latest happenings, let us pause and consider that the proficiency of Filipino students, as revealed by the PISA results, is not just a distant issue. It is not a mere statistic but a reflection of the very foundation on which our nation stands. We can move on from the results of Ms. Universe, and celebrity stories may come and go, but the impact of education echoes for generations.

Challenged by PISA results, are we, as a nation, falling short in addressing the critical issues in our education system?

On Wednesday, the Department of Education (DepEd) said that the results of the 2022 PISA demonstrated the inherent “resiliency” of the Philippine education system amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yet, as I navigate the implications of ranking sixth to last in reading and mathematics and third to last in science among 81 countries, I cannot help but wonder if resilience alone is enough to address the underlying issues that perpetuate this educational lag.

PBEd rightly points out that the weaknesses in our basic education system have broader implications for the entire nation. These weaknesses in basic education will eventually ripple into the fabric of our country’s workforce. Addressing these educational shortcomings is crucial not only for the students but also for the overall productivity and competitiveness of the Philippines in the global economic landscape.

Furthermore, addressing the educational deficit requires more than just cosmetic adjustments; it necessitates a systemic overhaul. It is a call for introspection, a challenge to rethink the methodologies, curriculum structures, and resource allocations within our education system.

The goal should be not only to catch up with the rest of the world but to leap ahead into a realm of educational excellence.

The urgency to address this crisis emphasizes the need for a united front— where government, educators, and the private sector collaborate to pave the way for a brighter and more competitive future for the Philippines.

As we scrutinize Ms. Universe and dissect celebrity breakups, let us lend an equal, if not greater, share of our attention to the minds that will innovate, lead, and shape the destiny of the Philippines. In the archipelagic landscape of the Philippines, where the vibrant culture and warm spirit of its people often take the spotlight, a darker narrative persists beneath the surface—a tale of systemic social injustices that continually plague the nation. These injustices, multifaceted and entrenched within various aspects of society, cast a long shadow over the aspirations of the Filipino people for equality, fairness, and dignity.

At the core of these societal maladies lies a turbulent political climate, where the voice of dissent often faces suppression and persecution. Instances of political persecution and arbitrary arrests have become all too familiar, with activists and journalists bearing the brunt of such repressive measures. The arrest of Senator Leila De Lima stands as a stark example, shedding light on the challenges faced by those who dare to question authority and advocate for human rights.

Senator Leila De Lima’s story is a testament to the prevalence of social injustice within the Philippine political landscape. Her case, widely perceived as politically motivated, is a strong example of the misuse of power and the manipulation of legal mechanisms to silence dissenting voices.

De Lima, a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, faced grave consequences for her unwavering stance against human rights abuses and extrajudicial killings linked to the government’s war on drugs. Despite progressive legislative strides, such as the Anti-Discrimination Bill, the LGBTQ+ community continues to face societal prejudices deeply rooted in cultural and religious norms. Discriminatory practices, including verbal harassment, and even violence, remain prevalent, creating barriers to access to education, employment, healthcare, and public services for LGBTQ+ individuals.

The absence of legal protections and recognition for same-sex unions denies LGBTQ+ individuals fundamental rights enjoyed by heterosexual couples, such as spousal benefits, inheritance rights, and legal guardianship. This exclusion further perpetuates societal stigmatization and impedes the formation of stable, legally recognized relationships for LGBTQ+ individuals. Education and awareness campaigns aimed at fostering acceptance and understanding of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities are pivotal in challenging societal prejudices.

In confronting these multifaceted social injustices, the Philippines stands at a critical juncture—a moment demanding collective action and systemic reforms.

It calls for a recalibration of governance structures rooted in transparency, accountability, and safeguarding human rights. Such reforms must address the root causes of inequality, elevate marginalized voices, and foster an environment where justice and fairness prevail.

Yet, rectifying these deep-seated injustices requires more than policy changes and governance reforms. It necessitates a societal awakening—an elevation of consciousness where every Filipino recognizes their role in fostering a more equitable and inclusive society. It implores individuals to stand in solidarity against discrimination, to amplify the voices of the marginalized, and to advocate tirelessly for the Philippines, where justice is not a privilege but a fundamental right for all.

Quivering Strength

We are currently living amid a heated battle between progress and regress, wherein the Philippines is one of the few countries that keep on budgeting its means to generate revenues that propose a budget to establish a future-proof and sustainable Philippine economy.

The root of the country’s issues is the social context in which people strive and thrive daily to quench their thirst, feed their souls, and live their lives. Addressing different dilemmas was stone hard, and only a few can have their way. Unrestrained exploitation and profligacy altered the nation’s viewpoint on the appropriate and inappropriate measures to alleviate the drought.

Will this be sufficient to presume that Filipinos might lessen the obstacles they face? Or will this only make the nation’s efforts to develop worse?

Although the general public may benefit from this, a potential revenue loss could increase the country’s deficit. The nation’s enormous national debt is primarily the result of budget deficits, which also affect the debt’s trajectory. Populist politicians only have one objective: to win over voters by lowering taxes and providing unique exemptions.

Furthermore, there is a strong correlation between these deficits and our nation’s overall economy, which is necessary for them to have a significant positive, lasting impact. Previous years have demonstrated how the unpaid debt we are attempting to repay caused the economy and the population to decline. The more complex the ensuing problems are, the harder it will be to pay back these national debts.

On September 19, 2023, the House of Representatives began plenary debates on House Bill No. 8980, also known as the FY 2024 General Appropriations Bill (GAB).

To get to grips with this, the government requires a navigable plan for financing the national debt and ensures that there is sufficient funding to handle the intricate issues surrounding debt repayment. To reduce foreign exchange risks, this plan should give the home market priority over outside funding sources.

It is the people who still sought to stand will suffer. The citizens and taxpayers who will be responsible for the majority of our country’s future debt repayment should be the focus of the government’s increased concern. Captivating transformations have taken place at St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur. With a renewed focus on providing a more conducive learning environment for its students, SPCIS recently unveiled a series of exciting additions to its campus. From the construction of a new college building and vibrant murals that breathe life into the surroundings to the improved classrooms that foster convenience and digitalization, this institution has truly undergone a remarkable evolution.

We asked Paulinians about their opinions on these transformations.

Art from the Century New Building Coming Your Way! Excitement brews in every college student as St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur anticipates the rise of the Rosary College Building next school year. Having a touch of both vintage and elegant architectural design, the new building will pave the way for Paulinian students, both old and new, to reminisce on the humble beginnings of the school and to reflect on its continuous commitment in providing quality and value-based education.

The new building affirms that despite all the obstacles brought about by time, the college department stands strong and united.

We asked Paulinians two questions: Are you excited to occupy the new building? What are your expectations in the new building?

Even at a glance from afar, one can already note the colorful addition to the campus. On the walls in front of the school are sets of newly painted murals of gratitude reflecting the old hallways and buildings of the former Rosary College Building.

The artworks not just serve as decorative additions but reflections of our school’s roots, journey, and successes, made possible through the people who believed in the visions and capabilities of St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur. We asked Paulinians their thoughts about the murals.

SLOW IN LOVE Overcoming Delulu Zone

The latest report of the Philippine Statistics Authority on the marital status of Filipinos 10 years old and above shows that 34.8 million of the Philippine population remain single, with the male gender (54.1%) taking a more significant portion than the females. This creates a ratio of 118 males for every 100 females. Such data either means that males tend to remain single or the call to religious service is more prominent on the said gender. Nonetheless, Herbert Spencer’s ideology on survival of the fittest applies to the female category because half of the 54.1% can be openly gay, and the other half are attracted to model-like female figures. Hence, for girls like me with an average look and a height below 5’7 who love to eat all the time and sleep past midnight, I think nunnery or single-blessedness is something we should consider entering in case the odds will never be in our favor.

Kidding aside, why are we single? Enough about the lame excuses of one’s desire to be independent and robust because we crave love and affection as social beings. At night, we wish to have someone to talk with before going to bed to share how our day went.

Whenever we would come home from school or work, and it would suddenly rain, the question of how it would feel to have someone waiting for us with an umbrella in hand would always pass through our minds.

Let go of the rope and admit that you also want to know what love feels like – and by love, I mean to be cared for, pursued, and prayed for, not only admired and kept for a temporary basis.

For someone who has not yet tried being in a relationship, my vision of love begins in friendship, not flirt-ship, and ends in marriage, not cohabitation. You may or may not agree, but the best and most underrated plot twist is falling in love with your best friend: someone who has known you for years and not some random guy you flirted with on vacation or social media.

In fact, love at first sight does not exist.

Psychology even suggests that such an idea is a myth and that true love takes time to develop. Researchers from the University of Groningen even described love at first sight as a positive illusion. At the same time,

biologist Dawn Maslar said, “Relationships built on attraction as a result of love at first sight are usually fleeting because they lack a strong foundation.”

Hence, love has to develop over time and not in an instant. The problem with the youth today is they crave love too much and too often that they end up romanticizing everything – wherein if someone reacts to their posts on Facebook or views their story on Instagram, it will be the start of an unending delulu series. How many of us concluded that a person likes us without them actually confirming it? Wake up and embrace the bitter reality that caring does not always mean loving – at least romantically. Moreover, love language is not only applicable to lovers because it is valid to show love and care for someone as a friend. However, maturity would tell us to only show signs of romance to a person we want and have feelings for, but then again, it is also worth mentioning that it is difficult to draw the line and determine when to romanticize friendly gestures (Mixed Signals ba?)

Better yet, why do we choose to remain single? Because singlehood is a choice. It is a reality that there are those who choose not to enter into a relationship, while some settle for ones they know may not last just to be loved. As I said, we crave love and affection, especially when we are surrounded by people blessed by it. But can we break the social norm to sacrifice one’s

worth for love, especially if it is uncertain?

If someone asks you why you are single, the best way to answer is: I have not yet opened my doors for love. Despite the multiple knockings of people professing their feelings, you should know when the love offered is genuine because that is the only time you must receive it. Never let your extreme desire to give love and feel loved cloud your judgment. After all, I have not yet heard of a person dying due to the distress and loneliness of singlehood. I only heard stories of people who patiently waited and, in return, received genuine love and affection.

The lesson? Be slow in love. Build connections that gradually develop into friendship and eventually romantic relationships. Enjoy the sweet transition of getting to know the other person before remaining in each other’s company.

To be slow in love means to undergo all its phases, starting from being strangers to friends until someone decides to take a chance in courtship and both decide to commit to a relationship. Let us not make love a race that starts and ends in a blink of an eye. Let us break the taboo surrounding men and women who choose to remain single past their 30s and the stereotype that we need to be in a relationship to feel complete. After all, being in a relationship must not be a part of our immediate to-do list; true love will come when the time is right. In the meantime, focus on yourself and strive to reach the top of your career so you can marry the one you love and not the one you need.

Personally, I always had it at the back of my mind to never fall in love with someone I met and spent time with within 365 days.

Forming genuine friendship requires time – what more for love? Hence, this 23-yearold author remains single and is loud and proud about it because no man has ever knocked on her door and completed her phases of love; not until recently has someone decided to take courage and leap into courtship, which we have been at for ten months now.

The Paulinian | 17 “Sige, ipakita mo kung sino ka!” Isa itong katagang madalas nating marinig sa katuwaan, partikular na sa hatirang pangmadla. Kamakailan lamang ay naging tanyag itong ginagamit upang hikayatin ang isang taong ipakita ang kanyang itinatagong mga kakayahan. Kung atin itong pagnilayan, paano nga ba natin ito mailalapat sa masinsinang usapan bilang mga mamamayang nanggaling din sa iba’t ibang kapuluan ng bansa?

Tayo ay may natatanging lahi at ito ay kayamanang nakaukit sa ating kasaysayan.

Ang mga katutubo ay grupo ng mga taong nagtataglay ng mayamang kultura. Sila ay matatagpuan sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa, at ang kanilang pangkat ay nagsimula pa noong mga unang panahon. They stand out as the guardians of ancient traditions, beliefs, and lifestyles that have endured for centuries. In addition, they have a deep history and have significantly shaped the country’s culture, tradition, and economic growth. From the Igorots in the Cordillera Mountains in the north to the Lumads of Mindanao in the south, these communities have harmonized their way of life with the environment. They possess a rich cultural heritage rooted in their deep connection with nature.

Their traditions are often expressed through dance, music, art, and oral literature, serving as a testament to their unique identity. More often than not, however, we tend to leech off of their culture, using and appropriating them without proper respect for their beliefs. And when push comes to shove, we discriminate against them for our benefit. The Lumads, for example, are stripped of their ancestral lands, depriving them of their freedom to live and exist like any of us.

These people should be appreciated and not discriminated against because we wouldn’t be able to embrace where we came

from without their existence. We should learn to celebrate them and preserve their cultures for the next generation.

I, for one, am interested in how they can preserve their identity through their practices. For example, Whang Od is known for her talent and skills in tattooing. She’s a hundred years old already but she still managed to do tattooing at that age and her talent made her known, that everyone in the country is inspired by her passion of doing what she likes, not just that but even foreigners are amazed by her. Now, tattoo enthusiasts are getting thrilled to meet and see Whang Od, they are not just excited to get a tattoo, but they are also happy to explore the province where she grew up and feel their culture and tradition. This brings the province tourists, and that brings them economic growth. The people who want to experience their culture aren’t just spending but also learning from their history.

Another way of celebrating them is by executing their cultures properly, including correctly utilizing their attires, furniture, dances, rituals, and language. We have to learn why they do such dances, why they create such products, and why they still do these rituals. The more we know about their

culture, the more we can embrace this identity that is unique to us Filipinos. Learning their history is crucial because we learn what started from them and what made it possible to inspire other people.

Their rich culture must be preserved and appreciated by the Filipinos because constant appreciation brings us unity, peace, and a deeper understanding of our differences.

The only thing that we can do for now is to share our knowledge about them with others who have no idea about them and make them shine through marketing and promotion. Share their local products and tourist spots with others. With that, we can help their local economy and community.

We also share in their fight for their rights and privileges. We speak up whenever necessary and uphold the sanctity of indigenous groups. They deserve to be given respect, after all.

Giving importance to this is not just solely crucial for the country but also for the world. Making them shine even if they are too different promotes diversity among others. This also improves our relationship with them, and that is the greatest thing in the world to do. [P]

Space weather events, or solar storms, are fascinating celestial phenomena that result from the Sun’s tumultuous and dynamic activity.

Solar storms have recently gained significant traction on social media platforms, captivating users with their potential impact on technology, the allure of auroras, and the fascination with space-related phenomena. These events pique the interest and curiosity of people on social media.

The trending nature of solar storms on social platforms can be attributed to their potential effects on Earth’s technology and communication systems. Additionally, the allure of the dazzling auroras these storms may produce draws considerable attention.

This leads to varied responses from individuals; some delve into creating theories about the solar storm, others generate memes, while a segment takes the issue seriously, recognizing the potential consequences of such phenomena.

But what is a solar storm? Why do they exist?

The main cause of solar storms is strong magnetic activity on the surface of the Sun. Solar flares, magnetic loops, and sunspots primarily produce these storms. Solar storms are caused by the expulsion of charged particles into space due to magnetic energy building

up and being released.

There are two types of solar storms: The Solar Flares and Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs). The unexpected energy explosions known as solar flares release powerful electromagnetic spectrum radiation.

In contrast, massive clouds of solar plasma are ejected into space during CMEs. Even though the Sun is millions of miles away, solar storms can still significantly affect Earth. CMEs can trigger geomagnetic storms when they collide with Earth’s magnetosphere.

These storms threaten both technology and human activity because they can interfere with navigation systems, satellite communications, and power grids.

Due to its reliance on satellites and delicate electronic systems, modern technology is susceptible to solar storm damage. Interruptions to GPS signals, power infrastructure, and satellite communication can cause financial losses and make daily living more difficult. It is essential to comprehend and address these vulnerabilities if technological systems are to remain resilient.

It is critical to put protective measures against solar storms in place as society grows more technologically reliant and networked. Scientists and engineers are actively trying to reduce

the impact of solar storms on Earth by creating resilient satellites and devising plans for handling power grid fluctuations. Solar storms highlight the delicate balance between Earth and the Sun despite being captivating celestial displays.

The reality of solar storms lies in their tangible impact. These events possess the capability to disrupt our technology, potentially sparking global panic. Moreover, they have the ability to generate mesmerizing auroras, although their visibility to the naked eye remains uncertain. Despite these truths, misunderstandings proliferate due to social media’s influence, fostering misinformation dissemination.

Myths, fake news, and inaccurate details regarding the timing and severity of solar storms permeate the internet. These falsehoods include claims about the precise dates of the storms, the alleged harm to humans, seasonal exclusivity, and the misconception that every solar storm poses an extreme threat.

Solar Storms, while captivating, require a nuanced perspective. As we continue to explore the wonders of our solar system, let us embrace knowledge and dispel misconceptions to appreciate the true nature and impact of solar storms on our home planet – the Earth.

A promise woven within history’s art, Enriching thy future, igniting the heart.

Oh, an art that adorns each vibrant wall, History’s palette, entrancing, stands tall.

Painted narratives, vibrant and bold, Melding stories that shall never grow old.

Amidst the rhythms of our native land, Resonates echoes, a harmony grand.

A fusion of voices, united, and strong Building a legacy that forever belongs.

From ancestral homes, age-old reversed, Rise pillars of strength, visions that mered.

Guardians of customs, keepers of lore, Custodians of values and valour.

Amidst cultural treasures, tales unfold, Whispers of glory, history untold.

In the heart deeps chamber, a legacy reside, Echoes of valour, in times gentle tide.

I’ve witnessed the struggles of those African Americans, In “Roar of Thunder, Hear my Cry.” Puddleglum’s speech, a spell-breaking delight, With Aslan, I’ve adventured through day and night.

When I open a book No one can really find me.

I leave the reality in front of me to be in the world of perfect fantasy.

Champagne problems in Midnight Rain A Flash Fiction

Love came my way, but the timing was unfortunate.

To defend myself, I was a med student, set to become the first doctor of the family. Hence, when the man I love got down on one knee, without a second thought, I broke his heart and flee.

Our story began one rainy evening when we exchanged coffees. We were 17 and in our first year in UP – young and full of dreams; only his was about having a picture-perfect family. Unfortunately for me, I never planned to become anyone’s bride-to-be. Eventually, he asked me to settle down, but we were just kids – 23, and I was at the peak of earning that dream addition to my degree.

Back then, I knew the life he was offering was too expensive, especially for a young and ambitious lady like me. And so, when I saw his mother’s ring in his pocket, right before his older brother could have splashed the champagne to announce the New Year - I ran. In the distance, His family murmurs, “She could have been a lovely bride.”

A year after that incident, he moved on and found someone. He fell in love.

This time with a girl with simple plans. She had dreams, but unlike me, she was willing to pursue it with him by her side. Three years pass. It was raining when he asked her to be his bride. She said yes, and finally, there was a celebration after his brother splashed the wine.

On the other side of the city - there I was, drinking away my champagne problems. Drowning with the thought that I never think of him – except on midnights like this.

I became a doctor. In exchange...I lost him.

With each drop of artificial packs of powdered hot chocolate on shelves With each taste bud satisfied by the mass produced sweet liquid Leads back to the stained hands of natives who crushed cacao fruit for tablea Leads back to what once was; the hands that crafted, now making up the soil we call home.

Smearing and dirtying, the blots of ink on our aching, writing hands that hope to make history Unknowingly becoming a display of history repeating through the children of children before Smearing and dirtying, once a craftsman’s aching hands that sculpted from mud His eyes trained on the sludge of dirt dancing in his cupped hands; forming bangas that he will never know to sit as a relic of history in museums.

Breathe. Lay in grass, feel the warmth that was left by a child who lived decades before Her dress, made of patterns in white, red, and black by her mother who sits in front of her loom The scent of grass sticks on the threads of her abel pattern clothes, her eyes sparkled by the stars We’ve been here before. We breathe the same air from the same land. We bleed the same red blood of an Iloko.

I am an Iloko. My hands have not touched mud and made it dance into a banga with intricate details The grass rarely ever tickles my feet when I practice dances to appease Gods my people once have All I am left of my identity is my tan skin, and my limited familiarity of our dialect Ngem agbiyag ti sao ti Iloko iti dilak.

Grief’s Eternal Elegance

A long time ago, in a place called Babylonia, There was a tragic tale of two lovers, Whose passion burned so deepIt ended killing the two characters.

Oh foolish paramours, Why did you have to love so dearly?

If not for such an illicit affair, You could have saved yourselves from misery.

But maybe - just maybe, It was that tragic end that perfected your story.

If you ended up getting married, Where is the thrill to begin with?

Nevertheless, my curiosity wishes to ask, Is love enough reason to experience such catastrophe?

Is the yearning for a significant other Really that necessary?

For twenty three years, I have never experienced a romantic relationship.

I am not cold nor impassive, I just don’t see the need to seek happiness from others.

You see, there is fleetingness in all things, Success, defeat, love, and loyalty, Name it; as death is inevitable, So is parting ways and misery.

If love is everlasting as they say; Why can’t my mom save our dad from dying?

If the desire to meet demise as a couple leads to eternity, Why is suicide not pleasant nor a call for nobility?

“Grief, a bittersweet muse that sculpts the soul with tears, unveils the exquisite artistry of one’s heart.”

In the quiet corners of solitude, a profound and paradoxical beauty resides, one that emerges not in the moment of its arrival, but in the transformative years that follow. It is the beauty of despair, a force both tempestuous and tender, a silent witness to the ebb and flow of one’s humanity. Thus, when it first knocks on our door, it seems like a relentless storm, tearing through the landscape of our emotions with unyielding force. Yet, as time dances forward, it takes on a new form, a subtle and poignant metamorphosis that weaves itself into the very tapestry of our existence.

Grief, at its inception, is a tempestuous storm, tearing through the landscape of our emotions with a fierce and unrelenting force. It arrives uninvited, an unwelcome guest to the banquet of our lives. In those early days, it blinds us with its intensity, obscuring the world in a shroud of sorrow. But as time passes, grief undergoes a transformation. It becomes a quiet companion, a shadow that walks beside us, a part of the landscape we navigate. It is in this slow and subtle metamorphosis that the beauty of grief begins to emerge.

Like a skilled artisan, grief carves its mark upon our souls. It etches lines of empathy and compassion into the very core of our being. It teaches us the fragile nature of existence and the preciousness of each moment. It is through grief that we learn to cherish the memories of those we have lost, to hold them close in our hearts, and to keep their spirit alive in our thoughts. In the years that follow, grief becomes a source of strength. It is the quiet courage that allows us to face the world with a deeper understanding of its complexities. It is the wellspring of resilience that enables us to endure life’s hardships with grace and dignity.

Grief is a mirror that reflects the full spectrum of human emotion. It teaches us that joy and sorrow are not separate entities, but rather two sides of the same coin. In our darkest moments, we come to appreciate the radiance of the light. In our deepest sorrow, we find the capacity for the greatest love.

Can you not see the irony?

It was his great love for Thisbe that killed Pyramus.

But it was love foolishness That ended the maidens’ life.

As the years pass, grief does not fade away; instead, it becomes a cherished part of ourselves. It is a silent guardian of our memories, a gentle reminder of the fragility of life, and a testament to the enduring power of love. In the beauty of grief, we find the essence of our humanity, and through it, we discover the capacity to embrace life’s complexities with open hearts and open arms.

Oh, young heart!

Do not be deceived by the promise of true love.

In critical situations; let the mind decide,

The essence of sorrow lies in its ability to transform and shape us into more compassionate, empathetic, and resilient individuals. It is not a wound to be healed but a scar to be worn with pride, for it is a testament to the love we have known and the losses we have endured in grief’s eternal elegance.

Like this myth, As old as time, Generations have witnessed how the heart yearns, For things, it can never have.
