Giving the gift of wheels this Christmas. Steve from Steve’s Recycle Bicycles delivered 10 refurbished, like-new bicycles to the Paris Community Christmas Hamper Program on December 14, continuing his annual tradition of helping ensure local children wake up to a shiny bike under the tree on Christmas morning. Donations have been pouring into the Paris Fairgrounds over the last five days, where more than 100 volunteers are sorting, organizing and packing hampers ahead of distribution day on Dec. 19. A large residential development proposed for the north end of Paris has cleared a major hurdle after the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) issued a written decision approving the project, following a negotiated settlement between the County of Brant and the developer. The decision, released October 27 and circulated to council through a Friday File on December 5, confirms that the draft plan of subdivision and zoning bylaw amendment for the lands at 184 Pinehurst Road, known locally as Cordon Farm, meet provincial planning policy and fall within the County’s settlement boundary. The approval allows the project to move forward subject to a series of conditions related to infrastructure, servicing and phasing. The developer, MLB Holdings Ltd. (Cedar North Development), had appealed to the OLT in 2025 after council failed to make a decision within the statutory timelines under the Planning Act. The public first saw plans for the project in December 2022, when Cedar North Development proposed rezoning 121 acres of farmland at Pinehurst Road and Watts Pond Road to allow between 776 and 984 residential units across two phases.
