S P O RT S Titans drop overtime nail biter against Norwich Merchants Paris Titans Report with George Le Gresley
Winter weather played havoc last Friday on the PJHL schedule, cancelling the Titans visit to Wellesley, which can be a treacherous drive in stormy weather. That brings us to last Saturday’s first home game of 2024 against the Norwich Merchants. The first period was scoreless, with both teams looking a little rusty after the holidays. Netminder Ryan Burroughs was steady at his
position putting aside 13 of Norwich’s shots. Three minutes into the second period, Owen Switzer made a pass Seth Kirou, who makes passed the puck to Christian Campanelli who buried it into the net. Four minutes later the Titans score again on Tyler Crisostomo shot on goal and a 2-0 lead. The period ends with another Titan penalty and a Norwich power play goal with 29 seconds left in the period. With a Titan still in the sin bin due to a 5 minute major penalty for a head shot, the Merchants fly off the 3rd period opening faceoff to score another power play goal within 6 seconds to tie the score at 2. The rest of the period was scoreless and the
Titans were off to play their fifth overtime game. The first three minutes of the game featured scoring chances from both sides, until 3 minutes into the period, a Titan gets a tripping play and Norwich scoring a goal to end the game with a 3-2 win for the Merchants. The Titans next game is at home tonight, January 20 at 7:30, where they will welcome the New Hamburg Firebirds at the Brant Sports Complex.
