Paris Minor Hockey Association hosted the Syl Apps Memorial Local League Tournament January 26-28th, where our very own U15 Wolfpack Team 1 came out as U15 Silver medalists.
After losing their first game, U15-Paris-1 regrouped and won their next two games. Goaltender Ethan Sickle earned 2 shutouts supported by a solid defense of David Milmine, Riley McComb, Gunnar Grant and Dylan Drinkle. Forward Blake Johnson scored 4 goals including (1) hat trick in game2 versus Newcastle Stars.
Next up was the quarter final game versus the Hagersville Hawks This game was one for the memories. U15-Paris-1 was down 2-1, with only 13 seconds left, when Dawson Atkinson tied the game and forced overtime.
The game continued to intensify in overtime (4 on 4 play), then in double overtime (3 on 3 play) then in triple overtime (2 on 2 play) ALL scoreless. Next came a five player shoot out which also ended in a tie The game would be determined in a sudden death shootout. Paris quickly chose Emmitt Hunter to take the shot. Emmitt, who plays for Paris U13 joined the team as an AP for the tournament weekend. Emmitt scored the winning goal, and Paris goalie, Ethan, made his final save, allowing Paris to advance to the semifinals, and providing a very entertaining game for the fans at the Paris arena.
Throughout the weekend the boys faced many challenges including a cold/flu that went through over half the team. The semi-final Sunday morning was played against Ayr with U15-Wolfack-1 winning 2-0. Another shutout on the books for Ethan, who was now playing with an acute leg injury. In Championship game Sunday, the U15 team met their match losing against Oro Thunder 6-2.
Special thanks to all parents, families, PMHA and spectators that supported the U15-Paris-1 team in their tournament weekend.
