Three intentions are accepted for all scheduled Masses, except for Ash Wednesday, Christmas, Easter and the Sacred Triduum. It is appropriate for you or the family of the deceased to attend the Mass when celebrated.

The suggested stipend for a Mass intention is $10.00 & has been set by the N.J. Bishops in the Province of Newark.

Every effort will be made to satisfy all requests. However in some cases the intention availability for a date you are requesting may be filled before your appointment and you will be asked to choose another date.

After initial Mass Book opening, requests may be submitted using this multi-intention form or a Mass Request Envelope. Availability of dates is on a first-come first served basis.

The members of the Mass Book team do not have authority to make exceptions, so please do not ask them to do so.

Confirmation 2017 Candidates:

MANDATORY Events and Dates Confirmation Rehearsal/ Penance & Reconciliation Wednesday, 4 October 6 - 8:30 pm.

Arrive in time for 6:00 pm practice for candidates and parents (at least one parent) in the Church followed by a 7:00 pm Penance and Reconciliation service for CANDIDATES AND PARENTS. If sponsors are available, they are most welcome to come to the practice and celebrate Penance and Reconciliation with the candidates and parents. Service should be concluded by 8:30 pm.

The Rite of Confirmation Friday, 6 October - Ceremony Time: 4:00 pm - Plan to arrive no later than 2:45 pm!

Candidates, sponsors, and parents gather in Madonna Hall in order to check in, take group pictures with the Bishop, and line up in order to be in the church prior to 3:45 pm. All relatives and friends should plan on being seated in the church prior to 3:45 pm.

During the Rite of Confirmation the bishop and the priests who are administering the sacrament lay their hands upon those who are to be confirmed. It is here that the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit are received ...“ the effect of the sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost.”

5 - 7of the Seven Gifts Knowledge is awareness of God’s plan. It is not simply an accumulation of facts but rather an understanding of God’s purpose and how we ought to respond. Knowledge helps bring to light temptations and to discern whether to give in or live a life worthy of God’s approval.

Reverence is our obedience to God and our willingness to serve him. It is not just obedience through a sense of duty but rather obedience out of love and devotion. It facilitates a deeper respect for God and the Church.

Wonder and awe makes us aware of the glory and majesty of God. This gift is also synonymous with “Fear of the Lord”, in which we dread sin and fear offending God. We fear displeasing God and losing our connection with him. Wonder and awe increases our desire to draw closer to God and depart from sin.

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The second reading from the Letter to the Philippians gives us a hint as to how we can hear Jesus’ preaching and respond in faithful obedience: “by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing…regard others as more important than yourselves…”

This is the kingdom perspective—to change our focus from ourselves to others and, in turn, our concern for others helps us focus on God. Jesus himself is the model, for “he emptied himself…becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Nothing was too much for Jesus so that others might be saved. So it ought to be for us. The “changing of our minds” described in the gospel is a self-emptying for the sake of others, lived every day in the little things that come our way.

This coming week we will host His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton who will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation on our parish candidates. This is a special day in the life of a parish community. It is the culmination of years of formation and preparation. It is the completion of the Sacraments of Initiation…Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. We will offer the Sacrament of Penance & Reconciliation Wednesday Evening for the candidates, their sponsors and parents. Let us pray for these and all those who are involved in the catechetical ministry of our parish.

Several weeks ago I was informed that Lauren Walters was taking a part time religious education position in another parish. This

switch will enable her to be with her young children more regularly. Lauren has offered to assist in this time of transition. Andrew Macirowski, who oversees this area of parish liturgical life has posted the position and several applicants have sent in their paperwork.

Interviews will begin this coming week and 2nd interviews are scheduled for the first week of October. Take a moment to thank Lauren for her service among us and wish her well in her new position. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time of transition.

Thank you for your support of our Annual Parish Super 50/50. The proceeds from this are part of our annual operating budget and assist us with our charitable appeals as well as paying down some of our unpaid bills from past years. Additionally, there are so many groups that depend on our facilities to continue their good work to help others support one another. Thank you for your generous support of this initiative. As fall descends upon us, take time to enjoy the final remnants of longer and warmer days. Don’t forget that Halloween Halls are quickly coming upon us. I am returning this weekend from a holiday with my family. My mother has long wanted to visit the birthplace of her father in the Agrigento Region of Sicily. My brother, sister and their spouses decided that this was the year. I am grateful to all those who have covered the sacramental ministry in my absence and to our parish staff for overseeing the day to day activities of our parish. Take time to get involved. Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful witnessing against abortion and for greater respect for all human life. The Martha Mary Guild’s October Meeting The Martha Mary Guild’s October meeting is traditionally a “three-fold event”. New members are welcomed with a special ceremony, conducted by our Pastor, Rev. Jeffrey Lee or one of our Deacons. Then there will be a delicious Pot-Luck Lunch, as a gesture of welcome to the new members. After the feast is consumed, there is a fun Fashion Show, with members modeling what they purchased at the September Clothing Sale This year’s meeting will be on Wednesday, Oct. 11, with the rosary in the Christ Chapel at 11:00 a.m. (Please note the time change.) The Induction Ceremony and recommitment of the ‘old’ members will take place at 11:30 in the Madonna Hall for the luncheon and show. Kindly bring your “culinary creations” to the Madonna Hall kitchen before the rosary.

As one of our October speakers noted, “Holiday Express” has many requests for socks, so the Guild is asking our members to kindly donate socks in all sizes for this worthy cause. Remember, all ladies of the parish are invited to participate in this lovely day!

Oct-Dec RE assistant - Hall monitors and RE aids needed in classrooms Tuesdays 4:30-5:40pm and/or 5:50-7:00pm

Oct 11 Adult Social - 1-2 volunteers needed to help with setup and & clean-up from 5:30 to 8:30pm.

Oct 22 Agape - Two shifts /set-up, during event and clean-up Oct 28 Halloween Halls - Help needed handing out treats to children,sSet-up and clean-up of event, manning a decorated table at event, making dessert items for participants, and working at craft and activities stations.
