Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Youth: Jesus saw Zaccheaus as he was mistakes and all. What masks, if any, do you hide behind so others won't see who you really are? Who do you trust to see your true self?

All Hallow’s Eve
The vigil of All Saints’ Day, All Hallow’s Eve, or Halloween, has its roots in the older Christian traditions of holding vigils on the evening prior to a Holy Day in the Church. After a vigil service, worshipers would visit a cemetery and light candles or lay flowers in anticipation of the coming days. In some cultures, there was a belief that on this evening, the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead was weak, and people would don masks and costumes so that a departed soul would not recognize them, hence the beginnings of trick
All Saints’ Day
The Solemnity of All Saints, a Holy Day of Obligation, is the day when the church celebrates all the Saints and Martyrs, including those unknown, and honors the Church Triumphant (saints and others who have entered the Kingdom of Heaven). It is a day that reminds us of our eternal reward, and of the Saints who have lived their lives in service of the Church.
The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed
Commonly known as All Souls’ Day, The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed is a Roman Catholic feast, in which the living faithful pray for the faithful departed who have not yet attained their heavenly reward, as their souls are purified in purgatory. Masses held on this day are in memory of those who have died in the past year, and it is customary to visit the graves of loved ones following Mass, and to pray for the happy repose of their souls. Some worship communities have prayer services at cemeteries as well, with graveside blessings.

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Thirty First Sunday in Ordinary Time. Most of us don’t have to be so creative or go to the extreme of climbing a tree to encounter Jesus. However, this gospel forewarns us that we ought not be complacent in our spiritual lives. We go to Mass every Sunday and encounter Jesus; we might think this is sufficient. Zacchaeus reminds us that we must also always be willing to change and grow, be vigilant about our relationships with others, for these are barometers of our relationship with God. Creativity in seeking Jesus might mean that we are innovative in our personal prayer life rather than continually reciting the prayers we might have learned long ago. What prayers might better meet our spiritual needs now so that we can grow in our relationships? It might mean that we keep certain days of the year (perhaps the days of the Triduum or some days during Advent or our Parish Mission) as a “mini retreat” in order to diligently seek Jesus and a better relationship with him. It might mean that we don’t wait for people to come to us and ask for help but that we notice others’ needs and offer to help before they ask. In these and countless other ways we encounter Jesus-and in this salvation comes to our house, too.
Thanks to those who helped to prepare the Halloween Halls event this weekend. It is wonderful to see the children all dressed up in their costumes and enjoy the energy they bring. This event is a reminder to us of our Church’s teaching regarding the place of the Communion of Saints in our Catholic Theology. It is a beautiful image to encourage all disciples of the Jesus to become someone “extraordinary” in making a difference. As Roman Catholics we pray for all of the “Holy Souls” as a reminder of the consistent teaching of the Church regarding purgation, not as a penalty, but rather as something that flows from Christian Maturity. Let us pray for all those who have gone before us and for those who await the fullness of the Kingdom of God promised us in the Sacraments. The mass
of commemoration is a special opportunity for us to minister to those who are grieving the death of a loved one. It is also an opportunity for us to prayerfully reflect on our Church’s teaching on the Communion of Saints. Thanks to all those who serve in the Lazarus and Bereavement Ministries. The Month of November is the Month of All Saints and All Souls. I encourage you to come and pray in a special way for all of our beloved deceased. May the saints present, past and future continue to inspire all people to choose the path of conversion so as to achieve the crown of victory over sin and death.
This weekend we begin our Parish Mission 2022. This is part of our 50th Anniversary Celebration. We have invited Mr. Jon Leonetti to facilitate this time of spiritual renewal for you our parishioners. Jon will speak at each of the four masses this weekend and offer a presentation Sunday Evening, Monday Morning & Evening and Tuesday Morning and Evening.
Next week we will have the awesome privilege and responsibility to VOTE. As Americans we sometimes take this for-granted. I encourage you to be informed about the issues and the candidates. Cast your votes based on these issues and the available information concerning the candidates’ record of voting. This is a real moral obligation for us. It is not enough to blindly cast your votes without any information, knowledge or responsibility. Review the sample ballot, learn about the candidates and their position on the issues. This is our opportunity to affirm and thank those who are working to make our society a better place. Our prayerful support is extended to those candidates for public office who may be part of our parish community. Next week we will pray in a special way for All Veterans, past and present, their families and all those who support them as part of our Veterans Day Observance. May God continue to bless you. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Peace. Father Jeff
