Please pray for our Military & First Responders

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Jesus teaches us to be humble – but what does that mean? How do you show you are humble?

Question for Youth:

God knows when we are doing things just for show, and when they come from the goodness of our heart. When have you caught yourself doing something just to be more popular or liked? How does it feel to do something that you know is good and just?

Question for Adults:

This Gospel reading suggests that we approach God and each other with humility. What does this mean, in practical terms? How do we "humble" ourselves? What does that mean?

Please pray for the following members of our parish community who are ill:

Lori Lettieri

Edward Habrack

Father William Bausch

To add or remove a family member from the sick list, please e-mail ONLY to: parishbulletin@stmaryscoltsneck.org. Names will be removed from the list after 3 months. Be sure to keep us updated on your loved one’s health. Thank you for keeping our Parish informed.

SAINTS OF THE WEEK

Michael, Gabriel & Raphael Archangels

The three archangels are honored together with a Feast on September 29. This date was formerly St. Michael's feast day and has been known for centuries as Michaelmas Day.

In Christian tradition, angels are sent by God to guide, guard, and heal us. They also inform people of a particular mission from God. There has been a renewed interest in angels in the past few years as more and more people seek out ways to better communicate with God. Read more

Saints Simon and Jude: Apostles of Hope and Perseverance

Saints Simon and Jude, whose feast day is celebrated on October 28, were among the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus Christ to spread the Gospel to the world. Though little is recorded about their lives in the New Testament, both men played important roles in the early Church. Simon, often called “the Zealot,” is believed to have been part of a Jewish group passionate for God’s law and the liberation of Israel, while Jude also known as Thaddeus is remembered for his steadfast faith and for authoring one of the New Testament letters urging Christians to remain firm in the truth.

Tradition holds that after Pentecost, Simon and Jude traveled as missionaries, preaching the message of Christ in places such as Persia, Mesopotamia, and possibly Syria. Despite facing persecution and hardship, they remained faithful to their mission of bringing light to those who had not yet heard the Gospel. Their unwavering dedication to Christ’s call eventually led to their martyrdom, which, according to ancient accounts, occurred on the same day while they were evangelizing together.

Over the centuries, devotion to Saints Simon and Jude has grown, with Saint Jude especially venerated as the patron saint of hopeless and desperate causes. Their lives serve as a reminder that perseverance in faith, even amid suffering and uncertainty, bears great spiritual fruit. Together, Saints Simon and Jude stand as enduring examples of courage, unity, and trust in God’s providence.

TRAVELING TORCH CELEBRATION

Coming to The Parish of Saint Mary!

Our parish will host the torch from November 22 through 29!

Torches will be lit and sent forth and they will travel to the many blessed parishes of the Diocese of Trenton throughout the whole month of November. The Guadalupe Torch light will shine in the parishes as a symbol of the impassioned prayer of those who add their petitions in the Diocesan wide mission. We turn to Her in the trust that she will bring them to her Son. The Guadalupe torch light reminds us that our Lady of Guadalupe is present in these moments of prayer and advocating our requests to her Son Jesus, who we know will never deny her anything. She is the original bearer of the light of Christ, as she carried Him in her womb.

As we walk through the seasons of life, the opportunity to gather with fellow women for spiritual encouragement is a precious gift. We warmly invite you to join our Spiritual Group - a community for women seeking connection, support and a deeper faith.

We read from Scripture and from interesting books, with thoughtful discussions. We pray together, remembering one another's special intentions. (We often go to lunch afterwards, too!)

My Dear Parishioners:

Quo vadis...

Today we celebrate the Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time. In practice, probably most of us are like neither the Pharisee nor the tax collector, so both can teach us something. The Pharisee can teach us that religious practices are important but not enough. They must always be performed in humility and with the goal of deepening our relationship with God. The tax collector can teach us that God doesn’t offer salvation only to the perfect but also to those who acknowledge their sinfulness and cry out for God’s mercy. At the same time, some of us are so busy beating our breasts about our sinfulness that even this can be a form of pride. Like the tax collector, we must let God be God and receive the mercy offered. Though sinners, God exalts those who are in right relationship. Rather than focus unduly on our own sinfulness, we needto turn to God and ask for mercy.

Many thanks to all those who have assisted with our Parish celebration of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. Our Faith Formation RE Staff and Julia Cullen collaborate with Worship and Music Staff, Andrew Macirowski and Carly York to provide the best possible preparation and liturgical celebrations for our parish community. Thanks as well to those who helped with the Mass of Remembrance welcoming those who grieve the death in the past year of a loved one. The coffee and donuts team provided refreshments to our guests andparishioners.

This coming weekend, our parish welcomes families to the annual Halloween Halls with the Intergenerational Presentation and the opportunity to process through the buildings

trick or treating. There is much preparation to provide a meaningful experience for our parish children. Thanks to all those who set up atable of treats.

The Annual Report of our Stewardship was made available to all of our registered parishioners this week. I encourage you to take the time and read through it. It is important to be informed about our parish… the successes and the challenges. I am grateful to Edwin Sevillano and all those who collaborated with him to present this information.

As we approach the month of November, let us remember the All Saints and All Souls in our prayer. It is a time for us to critically reflect on the fact that we are all saints and sinners in need of healing reconciliation. Please consult another section of this bulletin for the All Saints Holy Day mass schedule, Saturday, 1 November at 4:00 PM. We will celebrate Mass at 8 AM, 10 AM & 12 Noon in the Church on Sunday, 2 November for the Commemoration of All the Holy Souls.

November is also a time for us to exercise the privilege of voting. Please allow yourself to be inconvenienced enough to learn the issues and positions of the various candidates. Let’s be mature about this privilege and vote according to our beliefs and our conscience. It takes a great deal of effort to learn about the candidates and their positions. I have been disappointed by the more than usual bias in our media, especially the local printed media. Consult as many sources as possible to form your position and thenVOTE!

Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday Peace. FatherJeff
