Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

FOR DEEPER REFLECTION:

Question for Children: Jesus teaches us that our faith is is powerful and with it, we can do great things. We can forgive, love, and share with others. Which of these do you do most often?

Question for Youth: The Gospel tells us even a little bit of faith is enough to make amazing things happen. How are you keeping your faith alive and growing? What good things happen in your life because of your faith?

for Adults: Being “in Christ” means living as Christ teaches. What signs do you see in your life of generosity, forgiveness, hospitality, or any other of Jesus’ teachings?

Consider donating the sanctuary lamp that burns in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church or Chapel in honor of a living or deceased loved one.

One intention is accepted per week (Sunday - Saturday) for the Lamp. The suggested donation is $25.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary

The earliest known precursor to the Rosary were knotted prayer ropes, used by early Christians, but the practice also has pre Christianic roots. The concept of the Rosary as we know it today is thought to have to come to Saint Dominic in the 13th century, through an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The praying of the Rosary by laity is a parallel to the praying of the liturgy of the hours by clergy. The structure of the prayers developed into its modern form during the next 3 centuries, which included the placement of the Invitatory prayer, Lord’s prayer, Apostles Creed, Hail Mary, Salve Regina, Doxology, et cetera, and remained relatively unchanged until the last century. Another development during this time period was the recitation and mediation on the Mysteries of the Rosary: Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious, by St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort, a French

Mass of Remembrance

priest living in the 17th century. There are 5 mysteries per category, each prayed for one decade of the Rosary

In the early mid 20th century, it became common, especially in group devotional prayer, to add one of the Fatima prayers along with the Doxology. In 2002, Pope Saint John Paul II added another group of mysteries, the Luminous Mysteries.

There are several ways to pray the Rosary, with many prescriptions including the time of year, time of day, or how many decades, or which mysteries should be meditated upon, with the simplest being a single decade using a rosary ring or rosary bracelet, often suggested for children first learning about the Rosary, (thus completing one full Rosary over the course of a week), to four full recitations including each mystery, more common on devotional days such as Divine Mercy Sunday (2nd Sunday of Easter), Our Lady of Fatima (May 13), our Lady of the Rosary (October 7) and other Marian feasts.

Saint of the Week:

Francis of Assisi, Layman, c. 1181 1226

On October 30, 2022 preceding the 12pm Mass our Parish will remember in a special way those who had a funeral Mass at Saint Mary during the past year as well as any relative you may wish to remember. This Mass is an opportunity for us to assist those who grieve the death of a loved one.

If you wish the name of a loved one who has died during this past year read out at this Mass, please complete the form below and submit it to the office or complete online HERE. You are then asked to come to the table in the Gathering Space before Mass to receive a candle to be brought to the altar when the name is called.

Born the son of a wealthy merchant, Francis spent his youth in extravagant living and pleasure seeking. Although he was wont to lavishly spend his money, he was also generous. Francis never refused a beggar who asked for alms for the love of God. When a war broke out between the cities of Assisi and Perugia about the year 1200, Francis was taken prisoner and held for a year. Upon his release, he was stricken by a long and serious illness which he bore with great patience. Francis recovered and for a while returned to his former way of life, but he found that he no longer had the heart for it.

Walking With Purpose Fall 2022-2023 Program

Opening Your Heart: The Starting Point

Opening Your Heart: The Starting Point is our foundation Bible study, and we recommend all participants new to Walking with Purpose begin here, regardless of previous experience with Bible study. We encourage everyone to experience Opening Your Heart because we believe this Bible study is an incredibly effective guide to deep, lasting transformation of the heart. Join us as we take a deeper dive into the core questions that we need to wrestle with if we want to experience all that God has for us.

Program Dates:

OCTOBER 6, 2022 April 27, 2023

Touching the Divine draws us into a deeper relationship with Jesus as we reflect on Christ’s personality. Knowing Him more intimately will increase our love for Him. St. John referred to himself as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” As we study, John will teach us how much Christ loves us and how His love is the true satisfaction of our souls.

Quo vadis .

My Dear Parishioners:

Today we celebrate the Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time. When we think of people of great faith, we often mention people like Ghandi or Mother Teresa. These were great religious leaders who obviously had great faith and accomplished great things. We make a mistake, however, if we identify faith only with great things. Jesus reminds us in this gospel that our everyday actions, performed in loving service, are expressions of our faith. The faith-filled person puts in an honest day’s work. That person is gracious to those with whom he or she comes in contact. That person is ready to reach out and help another, even beyond one’s own work load. The faith-filled person sees Jesus in the other and responds to the situation with Jesus’ love and care. Faith is faithfulness in action.

During the Month of October the Church celebrates the life and ministry of “il poverello” the poor one of Assisi, Saint Francis. We offer the opportunity for families to bring their pets to our Campus and have them blessed. October is also a time when the universal Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Rosary. What a great time to rediscover the praying of the rosary in your prayer life. I will place some rosary beads that are from Jerusalem for use in the church or chapel prior to mass. This month is also a time when the Church reflects on the sanctity of every human life from the womb to the tomb. We set our eyes on the image of the Virgin at Tepeyac, Our Lady of Guadalupe who is the patroness of America, North, Central and South. It is

one of the very few images that we have of Mary pregnant with child.

Let us remember in our prayer those families who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Reverend Msgr. Thomas N. Gervasio, Vicar General of our Diocese of Trenton will be with us. We pray for those families who are presenting children for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion during this month. May we continue to support these families in teaching our Catholic Faith to their children. We are receiving a higher than usual number of requests to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony here in our parish community. It is important to note that several of these couples are planning “destination weddings”. However, they are choosing to prepare for and celebrate the sacrament prior to the destination event. Any interested couples should contact the parish for details. The Common Policy for Marriage Preparation throughout the Catholic Dioceses in NJ recommend one year preparation. Please contact the church before contracting with the reception venue.

Our Parish Mission is scheduled for later this month. Please make time in your schedule to participate. It is an opportunity to replenish our spiritual lives.

Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace.
