Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Question for Adults: When you pray, what do you ask for most often? How do you know God gives you this request?

Music Ministry Members Are Needed
Why do most people who are involved with ministry get started? One reason is that they see a need and feel that they can contribute to fill that need in their parish. Another is that they have a desire to give back to the worship community and decide to serve in that way. Yet another is the feeling that sitting in the pew is not enough and again there is that desire to be more involved. Whatever the reason may be, our community has a need for volunteer ministry members. This week the focus is on the music ministry, specifically the choir and hand bell ensemble. With a parish the size of ours, we should expect to have a choir of about 20 persons, and a hand bell ensemble of about 10. As of Fall 2022, we have less than half that number, and many members are involved in both of those groups. Choirs all over the country are struggling to recover after COVID, but there is a solution new people need to join.
If you have sung in any choir in the past, or people have mentioned that you have a good singing voice, please join! The ability to read music is not required. We have an immediate need for the Christmas season, with minimal rehearsal commitment. If you are interested, please contact Andrew or Carly and we will get you started!
Mass of Remembrance
On October 30, 2022 preceding the 12pm Mass our Parish will remember in a special way those who had a funeral Mass at Saint Mary during the past year as well as any relative you may wish to remember. This Mass is an opportunity for us to assist those who grieve the death of a loved one. If you wish the name of a loved one who has died during this past year read out at this Mass, please complete the form below and submit it to the office or complete online HERE. You are then asked to come to the table in the Gathering Space before Mass to receive a candle to be brought to the altar when the name is called.
ofNovember
It is the Church’s custom to reserve the month of November for the remembrance of all the faithful departed. Please use your All Souls envelope to write the names of those loved ones you would like to remember and kindly drop it in the collection boxes anytime beginning in October. The envelopes will be wrapped and placed near the tabernacle, and an intention will be added to the prayer of the faithful in the Masses celebrated on All Souls Day and during the month of November. Online givers can also send in their All Souls remembrance thru our online giving system at GIVE ONLINE HERE
Thank you for preserving our Catholic traditions and honoring those who have gone before us.

Quo vadis
My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate the Twenty Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time. For many, setting aside any definite time for prayer during the day may seem all but impossible, especially if we are talking about ten or fifteen uninterrupted minutes. Persistence in praying always might need to take the form in our lives of developing the habit of being aware of God’s abiding presence and blessings even in our busyness. It might mean that we learn to catch little moments for prayer (like we sometimes are able to catch moments for catnaps) while driving to pick up the youngsters or waiting in a checkout line. The place and manner of prayer aren’t nearly so important as the fact that we pray always and without ceasing.
During the month of October the Universal Church prayerfully reflects on the call to build God’s Kingdom through Missionary activity and heightened awareness of the need for more expansive Evangelization Efforts. The work of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith enables our Roman Catholic Church to proclaim the saving message at every corner of the earth. This is a fundamental part of our identity to go and share the good news. Thank you for your generous prayerful support of this missionary effort. We are also called to struggle with the Church’s teaching on the sanctity of human life at every level from conception through natural death. It is not always easy to embrace this teaching, especially when we begin to put the face of someone who is suffering. As New Jerseyans we must struggle in a special way with this teaching and the on going pursuit of for profit scientific research that uses embryonic stem cells that are primarily procured through abortions. This is a complicated issue. However, there is so much that can be advanced with the use of stem cells that are procured through more ethical and non life threatening means. Please continue to pray for a greater respect for all human life from conception through natural death.
We are now in the full swing of fall. The activities abound. Allergies are flaring up. Heaters are being cleaned and readied for what some are predicting as a rather severe winter from a climate perspective…? Take some time to enjoy the fall colors and the chill in the air. This is also a time in our church year when we reflect on the call to be good and faithful stewards of the many gifts God has given us. If you have not already done so, please make time to prayerfully reflect on your Stewardship of Treasure to enable our parish community to meet its obligations and fulfill its mission.
This weekend we welcome families who are presenting their teens for the Sacrament of Confirmation and others who present children for their First Holy Communion. These sacraments of initiation are the cornerstone of our community life. They are not an end unto themselves but significant moments along the journey of faith. May our parish community continue to encourage others through our faithful celebration of the sacraments…especially the Eucharist.
Our Parish Mission is scheduled for later this month. Please plan to participate in this time of renewal. Each of us needs to replenish the glass of our spiritual lives. More details in the ebulletin. Preparations are underway for the Annual Halloween Halls event next weekend. Lots of preparation makes this a great experience for the children of our parish community. I would like to extend a special greetings to all of our homebound parishioners who are united with us in prayer. Let us remember these parishioners who sacrificed through the years so that our parish community and the facilities we enjoy could be established and sustained.
Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

Saint of the Week:
John of Capistrano, Priest, 1386 1456
John was the son of a German knight who was brought into the service of the King of Naples, Louis I. While his father died when John was quite young, he had the advantage of access to education. Having studied law, he was appointed governor of Perugia. At this time in history, much turmoil and disease afflicted the European landscape and the Church. Bubonic plague claimed the lives of as many as thirty percent of the population. There were three claimants to the throne of St. Peter. And the many city states in Italy were often at war with each other. Read more HERE
