Grade 2 First Penance & Reconciliation will take place at the parish Advent Penance & Reconciliation Service, December 3, 2017 please be in a seat by 2:30pm for a brief practice, the service will begin promptly at 3 pm.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe CHRIST, KING OF ALL On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation.

At the end of time as we know it, Christ's work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to participate in Christ's saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls "the least ones" (Matthew 25:45).

Quo vadis…

My Dear Parishioners: Today we celebrate The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. One of the best ways we can begin to see the Christ in the other is not by judging the negative aspects of their persons first but instead looking for the good in the other. This can be carried out in such a simple Christian practice as seeking always to compliment rather than to criticize another. Care that we don’t spread gossip is another way. By this we build up the body of Christ and bring honor to Christ our King who dwells in ourselves and the other.

The call to build our community of the Church is especially important these days as some of our members continue to question whether or not there is a future here in our parish or if they feel a part of our parish. We must be supportive of them as they ask these important questions. It is also imperative for us to consciously become a more and more welcoming community. There are so many Catholics out there who simply do not feel as if they fit into a church…at least the church where they might be registered or the territory where they might live but do not attend. As evangelizers we need to support these members of the church as they too ask the difficult questions of faith and life. If you notice a new face in our midst, don’t be shy.

Introduce yourself and welcome this person if they are visiting or are new to our community.

If you notice a parent with a fussing child, don’t look at them with a frown on your face; rather, encourage them in their attempt to satisfy their child. If you recognize a person with special needs, offer to assist them as they

find a seat or struggle to enter the communion procession. All of these simple and random acts of kindness help to distinguish our community as an authentic community of Christian Stewards. Together we can make the difference!

Today we welcome Family Members and Friends of Deacon Fred Sorrentino. We are most grateful to God for his presence among us and his steadfast witness to our Christian Community. Many thanks Deacon Fred! Next weekend as we begin the Season of Advent, we will once again collect items for the poor and needy in our midst. Please consult the Parish Bulletin for different options available.

We will be taking up the Missa Emmanuele music setting for the sung Mass parts during the Advent & Christmas Liturgical Seasons. It was introduced several years ago and the congregation received it favorably. Let me take this opportunity to thank all of our parish liturgical ministers, especially the music ministers, for their steadfast commitment and loyalty in serving our parish community.

Our Parish Advent Penance & Reconciliation Service is being held next Sunday, 3 December 2017 at 3:00pm. Also, preparations are being made for the Light up a Memory Celebration and the Advent Pancake Breakfast. Please consult the bulletin for more information. I hope that everyone enjoyed some family time for Thanksgiving. I was able to join with my family at my brother’s home in southern Maryland. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. “Light Up a Memory” “Light Up a Memory” has become a beautiful Christmas tradition at St. Mary and is now in its 10th year, thanks to the support of an enthusiastic community. It is heartwarming to see the hundreds of lights sparkle during the Christmas season. For a contribution of $10.00 per light, people are invited to sponsor a light in memory of someone deceased or in honor of a living person. All of the names will be inscribed in the Light Up a Memory book, which will be displayed in St. Mary’s Gathering Space.

There will be a tree Lighting Ceremony on Sat., Dec. 16, after the 4:00 Mass, with music provided by St. Mary’s Choir.

Refreshments will be served in the Gathering Space after the ceremony.
