Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Saint Cecilia

The feast day of Saint Cecilia, virgin and martyr, is celebrated on November 22. She was married to a nobleman, Valerian. Having already made the decision to devote her life to God, she sang praise to the Lord during her nuptials. Before consummating their marriage, she informed her new husband that she had taken a vow of chastity and felt she was protected by an angel. She then instructed her new husband to go and be baptized, after which he returned to find Cecilia in the midst of an angel, adorning her with roses and lilies. She often preached, converting many to Christianity, and consistently sang songs of praise to God.

She was martyred under the reign of Roman prefectAlmachius in the 2nd centuryAD. The common story is that an executioner struck her neck three times, and she lived for three days afterward, continuing to preach, and praise the Lord. As one who often sang praise to God, she is the patroness of musicians.

Frances Xavier Cabrini, Teacher & Religious,1850-1917

Frances Xavier Cabrini was the first citizen of the United States to be canonized as a saint. Born Maria Francesca Cabrini at San Angelo, Italy, she was naturalized as a citizen of the United States at Seattle in 1909.

Frances was sent to a convent school at an early age, and dreamed of becoming a missionary in China. At the age of twenty-four, she went to a small orphanage in Codogno called the House of Providence, to help in the management of this institution. During this time, she attracted several other women to help in her work, and in 1877 seven of them took first vows. Shortly after, the House of Providence was closed down, and the bishop encouraged Frances to found her own order of missionary sisters.

Honoring Our Service Men & Women

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, the Martha Mary Guild paid tribute to our Service people, as is customary every November. This year, Marine Sgt. Garcia told us about the ever popular, "Toys for Tots". It goes all the way back to 1947! Major Bill Hendricks and his wife set out to bring joy to children that were lacking gifts at Christmas and started a wonderful tradition. 51, 596 families have been helped over the years! Walt Disney designed the first poster and the tradition continues all over the country. Our Guild members contributed many wonderful toys for the Children. We were also happy to induct new member, Debbie Nagel, who wasn't able to attend the October ceremony.

My Dear Parishioners:

Quo vadis...

Today we celebrate the Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. On this second-to-last Sunday of the liturgical year we begin to play out the last climactic rhythm of the paschal mystery. This Sunday we consider the end of this world as we know it—dying. Next Sunday we consider the triumph of Christ and what comes to all of us who live in conformity with the Word—everlasting life. Dying and rising. This is what the whole liturgical year is about. This is what the whole Christian mystery is about. There’s lot at stake in this gospel—it’s not a future for our progeny but for ourselves. We have been faced with a choice throughout our journey during this past liturgical year: to be rooted in this world or in the words of Jesus. Our choices domake a difference.

This Saturday, 16 November is the Fall Clean up of our parish campus. We need lots of participation. It is a great time for all ages to come together and care for our spiritual home. More info in the e bulletin. The Thanksgiving food collection ends this Friday, 15 November. We are a bit behind. Consider dropping off food items. They will be sorted for distribution in Saturday in the Church Narthex. Many thanks to all who participated by bringing food, gift cards, online gifts and corporate gifts.

Our American citizens have voted and we have results. Democracy is alive and well. Now we must set aside partisanship and ego driven opinions to help our country move forward as we prepare for the 250th anniversary of independence in 2026. There is much work to be accomplished. Some may be in line with our thinking…some might not. May God continue

to inspire us in building forth a nation of justice, peace and truth.

Next weekend the Universal Church celebrates the Solemnity of Jesus Christ the King, the final weekend of our liturgical year. Monsignor Troiano will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving to Almighty God for 45 Years of Priestly Ministry at 12 noon. All are encouraged to come and pray with Monsignor Troiano in appreciation for his service to our parish community

The Colts Neck Reformed Church will be hosting this year’s Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service on Tuesday Evening, 26 November at 7:30pm. Please join us for Mass on Thanksgiving Day at 9am in the chapel. It is important for us to take time to give thanks and praise to God for all the blessings in our life. Please consult the bulletin for details. We will observe an abbreviated Mass schedule Thanksgiving Weekend, Saturday 30 November/ Sunday 1 December. Please mark your calendars.

Please mark your calendars for Sunday, 15 December 2024. This is the date for the Advent Penance & Reconciliation (confessions). It is a time when we will welcome a new group of children to this sacrament. It is also a time for us to come together in preparation for the great Solemnity of Christmas. I am grateful to all of the priests who serve as confessors for this sacrament. During these days please allow some extra time when driving around town, especially the weekends, as some businesses experience high traffic and a swell of patrons. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer.

Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

This week will be the appeal for Human Development collection. Please be Generous

Consider this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each must do as already determined, without sadness or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
