Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Question for Children: Who is one person in your life who supports your faith and helps it to grow?
Question for Youth: The Gospel speaks of following God as coming toward the light. How can you move towards the light in your own life? What is the darkness that needs Jesus’ healing in your life?
Question for Adults: When is it difficult for you to believe? What particular line in this reading helps your faith?

The entrance antiphon is one of the proper's of the Mass, that is the text that changes each day in accord with the liturgical calendar, and in the hierarchy of the liturgy, one of the parts that should be sung each day.
The 4th Sunday of Lent, also known as Laetare Sunday gets its name from the first few words of the Entrance Antiphon for the day.
The full translated text reads: Rejoice, Jerusalem, and all who love her.
Be joyful, all who were in mourning; exult and be satisfied at her consoling breast.
The readings for the day take a more hopeful turn as we are now 21 days from the celebration of Easter. In Year A, the Gospel of Jesus curing the man born blind is proclaimed. In Year B, the famous John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. In Year C, the story of the prodigal son is heard.
Some differences from the rest of the Lenten season:
The clergy wear Rose-colored vestments, not unlike Gaudete Sunday, the day of rejoicing during the Advent season. The organ may be used as a solo instrument, a departure from its otherwise restricted use during the season of Lent. Flowers may be temporarily used in church decorations. The sense of being able to rejoice with the hope of the resurrection can be reassuring for some and the Church gives us this day for that reason. With the 5th Sunday of Lent, a more somber tone returns as we enter passiontide, Palm Sunday with the commemoration of the Lord’s entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper and the crucifixion, followed by Holy Week and the Sacred Paschal Triduum.
Our knowledge of Elizabeth and her husband, Zechariah, comes to us from the first chapter of St. Luke’s Gospel. Elizabeth and Zechariah, righteous people according to Luke, had prayed to God that they might be blessed with a child. Since Elizabeth was well past childbearing age, they might have given up hope that their prayers would ever be answered.
Zechariah was a priest in his community and at a time when he was serving in his priestly duties, the angel, Gabriel, appeared to him and told him that his prayer had been heard. The angel said, “Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall name him John. And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord.” [Lk 1:13-15]
When Elizabeth was in her sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary to announce – Read More HERE.
Zechariah said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced in years.” [Lk 1:18] Since he doubted Gabriel’s words, the angel told him he would be speechless until the baby was born.

“The makes it very clear that this variety of offices and roles is desirable and should be maintained. In fact it goes so far as to state: …’all, therefore, whether they are ordained ministers or Christian faithful, in fulfilling their offices or their duty, should carry out solely but completely that which pertains to them.’-There is a wide variety of services to be performed, and it is desirable that different individuals exercise those services so that the talents and gifts God has placed within the Christian community are fully utilized (USCCB).

“In the beginning I was trying to go it alone. I was reading the Bible by myself, and even though it s a very strong time and emotional time to sit and read the Bible, I learned that you can’t go it alone. You need community. To be part of the Catholic Church is that bigger part that was missing.” – Kyle
Being a Catholic means being part of a spiritual family. Often, it can be your flesh-and-blood family, or it can be a close friend who invites you to “come and see.” As you enter the Church, the parish community and the RCIA Program will walk with you on your journey of faith.
Please prayerfully support… Tanner Grigoli, Ryder Grigoli, Kimberly and Christopher Cascone as they prepare for the reception of Sacraments for full initiation into the Catholic Church. If you or someone else you know is interested in becoming Catholic or completing their Sacraments of initiation, please contact us at (732)780-2666.

“In peace, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. That God would draw us into His light, exposing wherever we, like His people of old, have thought, spoken and acted against Him; and that in repentance we might look to His Son lifted up on the cross and be saved from His righteous wrath, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy.
For the missionaries of our Church as they go to the ends of the earth with the Gospel, that many may hear of God’s love in Christ Jesus and be saved through faith in Him, let us pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. Hear us, heavenly Father, for the sake of Christ Jesus, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen”

The Catholic Church in the United States requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following: Thedaysoffast(onlyonefullmealperday)andabstinence(nomeat)areAsh Wednesday(February14)andGoodFriday(March29). AllotherFridaysofLent(February16 throughMarch22)aredaysofabstinence(nomeat).
Fast consume only one full meal. Water may be taken throughout the day
Abstinence– consume no meat; this obligation prohibits the eating of meat but not eggs, milk products or condiments of any kind, even though made from animal fat.
Baptized Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast and those from the age of 14 are also obliged to abstain
Those who are automatically dispensed from fast and abstinence regulations outside the age limits noted above include: the physically or mentally ill, especially individuals suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes. Also included in the dispensation are women who are pregnant or nursing. In all cases, common sense should prevail and ill persons should not further jeopardize their health by fasting.

Quo vadis for March 10. . .
My Dear Parishioners:
Today we celebrate The Fourth Sunday of Lent known as “Laetare Sunday”. The contradiction in the paschal mystery is that what we abhor the cross becomes the instrument of redemption. God saves Israelites from death but in the paschal mystery we must embrace death for the only way to eternal life is by dying to ourselves, by allowing ourselves to be lifted up like Christ. Our good works (reaching out to others, doing our daily tasks with love and care, acting justly and charitably, etc.), then, our wayof being“liftedup.” Thisishowweare crucified, so that we might live.
This weekend 9/10 March we will turn our clocks ahead one hour. Be mindful of this when choosing when to come to mass Sunday morning. It is always an adjustment in the morning but a welcome return to more daylight in the afternoon and early evening hours. Since Holy Week is so early this year we are able to schedule Holy Thursday and the Solemn Easter Vigil At 7:00pm for the convenience of all.
During the Season of Lent, Mass is celebrated daily in the Chapel. Come and receive Holy Communion more frequently so that the special grace of the sacrament will accompany you throughout each day. Next weekend is our Parish Lenten Confessions. We have a full complement of Priest Confessors to provide for your needs. Consult the bulletin for further details. Please plan to participate! We continue our preparation for Holy Week, The Triduum and
Easter Sunday. We ask for your kindness and cooperation in assisting us with preparing and celebrating these ancient rites in our church. Our Easter packet has been prepared and mailed to all of our registered parishioners. You should receive it within the coming week or so. If you have not received it by 18 March, please contact the parish office.
There will be workers on campus to replace various components of our safety alarms. This system monitors smoke/fire and pressure for the fire suppression system. The control panel is less than twenty years old; however, the regular power outages and surges we experience are not good for these systems. All part of life in 07722. Please be patient with us as we undertake this important work.
Many thanks to all those parishioner families who have made a pledge/gift to the 2024 Annual Catholic Appeal. I was encouraged by the number of parishioners who have spoken with me these past few weeks about participating. It is an important initiative for our diocese and in support of His Excellency, the Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton.
These final weeks of the Lenten Season continue to be a special time of grace for you and your family. Let us continue to welcome those who join us as our community gathers for these most sacred rites. Let us remember one another in prayer. Have a great week.
Happy Sunday. Peace.

The 2024 Annual Catholic Appeal launched February 24 and 25 throughout the Diocese of Trenton
Each year the Bishop seeks the support of all the members of the diocese to further the work of our ministries. Each of us has a vital part in all we do in Christ’s name, and each of us can share in all we do with a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal. Our single Act of Faith propels the works of love that build up our Church. You make that happen with a generous gift to the ACA. This year St. Mary Parish share of the goal remains at $75,000. As the people of the Diocese of Trenton, you have an opportunity to help others see Christ working in our midst. Please take a moment and truly reflect on any help you can give. We truly need everyone to participate. Pledge cards will be available at all masses next weekend. You can also make a gift online at https:// dioceseoftrenton.org/catholicappeal
Thank you for your support, and may God continue to bless you and your family.

The snow storm in January caused the cancellation of a very informative meeting, with special guest, Monmouth County Surrogate Judge, Maureen T. Raisch. To quote her: "My primary goal is to help you, especially when you are grieving the loss of a loved one."
We don't like to think about that part of our lives, butit is a reality and it's very important to know how to handle the practical aspects. The Surrogate's Court is a court of limited jurisdiction that handles matters dealing with Probate, Administration of Estates, Guardianship and Adoption, as well as overseeing assets of minors under its jurisdiction for Monmouth County residents. As a member of the Court, Ms. Raisch is well qualified to answer pertinent questions you may have. All women of the parish and our Cohorts are cordially invited to attend this meeting on March 13. Come to the former chapel in the Spiritual Center at 11:30AM for the praying of therosary, followed by BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch), with refreshments suppliedby the Guild. The program will begin around 12:30PM.
Get together with friends, family and fellow parishioners to help clean-up the fallen leaves, branches and debris deposited on the parish grounds from the winter months.

To celebrate the Eucharistic Revival, and to kick off year 3 of this very important movement that begins this summer '24, the Parish of Saint Mary will be gifting each family a copy of Bishop Robert Barron's book ‘This is My Body’ on Pentecost. Pentecost, this year on May 19, 2024, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. Pentecost is celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter which is also fifty days after Easter.
About the book: “In this brief but illuminating text, Bishop Barron offers a threefold analysis of the Eucharist as sacred meal, sacrifice, and Real Presence, helping readers to understand the sacrament of Jesus’ Body and Blood more thoroughly so that they might fall in love with him more completely”– Read the rest of the description HERE
This summer, May 17 - July 16 join the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage. Local communities are gathering tinder in response to God’s invitation for renewal, calling on the Holy Spirit to bring the flame.
In keeping with this vision, the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage will accompany Jesus from city to city, lighting hearts on fire along the way. Then, at the National Eucharistic Congress in July 2024, all these flames will blaze together.
Use this interactive map to explore each of the four unique routes of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage. Then register to attend the events happening near you! Read more HERE.
