Born into one of the richest and most powerful families in Italy in that era, this saint was christened Caterina in honor of St. Catherine of Siena. From an early age, the girl loved prayer and practiced penance. She also performed works of charity for the poor. She developed a love for the Blessed Sacrament while she was very young and liked being around anyone who had just received Eucharist or anyone who was talking about the sacrament.
Caterina received her First Communion at the age of ten, rare at that time, and experienced the first of many ecstasies that she would experience in her lifetime when she was twelve years old. Her mother watched as Caterina, watching a sunset, was able to focus her mind totally on God.

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Question for Children: Jesus tells us that we need to forgive to have peace. Name one way that you can forgive a friend or classmate.
Question for Youth: St. Paul tells us that we all have unique gifts for the good of others. What is special about you? How can you use those gifts to help others – friends, family, strangers?
Question for Adults: Even as working disciples of Christ, we are given the gift of peace. How do you experience this gift, and how do you share it with others?

The Solemnity of Pentecost occurs 50 days after Easter. Because Easter is a moveable feast without a fixed date, and Pentecost depends on the timing of Easter, Pentecost can fall anywhere between May 10 and June 13. The timing of these feasts is also where Catholics get the concept of the Novena - nine days of prayer - In Acts 1, Mary and the Apostles prayed together continuously for nine days after the Ascension (40 days after Easter) as they awaited the coming of the Spirit. Pentecost is the celebration of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles, Mary, and the first followers of Jesus, who were gathered together in the Upper Room.
A “strong, driving” wind filled the room where they were gathered, and tongues of fire came to rest on their heads, allowing them to speak in different languages so that they could understand each other, and also gave the apostles the other gifts and fruits necessary to fulfill the great commission - to go out and preach the Gospel to all nations. It fulfills the NewTestament promise from Christ (Luke 24:46-49) that the Apostles would be “clothed with power” before they would be sent out to spread the Gospel. This is also considered to be the brith of the Church, as after this, the Apostles were confident to travel far and wide, and make disciples of all the nations.
The Catholic Church requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following:
The obligation, the privilege really, of receiving the Eucharist at least once a year --- often called “Easter duty” for those in the state of grace should still be fulfilled during the period from the First Sunday of Lent, March 9, 2025 to Trinity Sunday, June 15, 2025. However, the Church’s law does permit this precept to be fulfilled at another time during the year when there is a just cause.
This is the practice of having children, ages 4-12, leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word (readings) and gather in the chapel to engage in the Liturgy of the Word at a level more appropriate to the children’s understanding.

Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Help welcome new families as we celebrate the gift of baptism at St. Mary’s! As a Baptism Minister of Welcome, you’ll be a warm, friendly presence for those bringing their children into the Catholic Church. Want to learn more? Come see us at Coffee & Donut Sunday!
As a parish community we recognize the need to support graduates in staying connected to the Catholic Church after they graduate.
With more than 80% of high school students leaving their faith in college, we need a way to connect graduates to the next step in their faith journey.
Our parish has partnered with Newman Connection. Newman Connection connects graduating high school students to the Catholic campus ministry of their chosen college (whether it is a Catholic college or not). Connect directly with Newman Ministries HERE
My Dear Parishioners:
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost. By this indwelling of the Holy Spirit we ourselves become advocates of God’s presence for others. This gift of the Spirit, then, makes its demands on us. We must monitor the way we live so that others truly see us as advocates of God’s presence bringing new life. This new life that we share with others might be so simple as a reassuring touch or helping hand. It might be so great as making a sacrifice of time to join the parish choir or volunteer for some task that needs to be done for the good of all. At any rate living the paschal mystery means that we bask in the good gift of God’s life that the Spirit brings. Living the paschal mystery means also that this good gift has its cost we still must die to ourselves in order to be the true presence of Christ for others.
Pentecost marks the 50th day and conclusion of the Easter Season. It is the fulfillment of God’s covenant with those born again through Sacramental Initiation of Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist to be with us always until the end of time. It is this Spirit that prompts us to continue to move forward and bring others to Christ. It is this Spirit that sustains us when we address the difficult circumstances in our lives. We begin the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time this coming Monday. However, the next two Sundays are Solemnities of the Lord: Trinity Sunday and Corpus Christi. We will return our liturgical environment to a more appropriate style for the Liturgical Season of Ordinary Time which concludes during the month of November with the Solemnity of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
The month of June this year is filled with activity. We are busy readying for the upcoming Summer Religious Education Programs; Preparing to conclude this fiscal year and prepare for the next; celebrating the rich liturgical life of the Church as I outlined last week and so many other aspects of parish life.
We continue to make slow and steady progress in our 2025 Annual Catholic Appeal. We are lagging behind last year at this point. As Catholics living in the Central NJ Diocese of Trenton it is our responsibility to assist His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop to oversee our diocese, provide for the needs that exist, disperse charitable and emergency funding as well as maintain proper standards of oversight. I ask that you do something to help our parish reach the goal set for us. Your act of faith enables our diocese to continue to meet the changing needs of our local church community. Thank you for your kindness and sharing.
To all those who wore some type of red garment this weekend, Thank You for helping us to decorate the church for this Solemnity of Pentecost. Let us continue to pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit on our parish community and upon our Catholic Church as we strive to build the Kingdom of God in our midst. Congratulations to all who have participated in the 2025 Easter Collection. We have included a report for your consideration. Please take a moment to review it and become better informed about our parish. We will observe a Eucharistic Day in two weeks as we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. More to come. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff

Several years ago, we announced a gift toward replacing the current baptismal font which has been unusable due to multiple leaks. The process has taken much longer than anticipated and after consultation with the parish Patrimony Committee and the Finance Council we are pleased to announce that the new baptismal font is scheduled to be installed during the month of August 2025. Since the existing baptismal font was installed without the proper footings we will need to cut the floor open to pour the footings to ensure the stability of the font. Additionally, we will need to cut the floor open to install new piping for the font. We appreciate your cooperation during this time of construction and repair. Please be advised that during this period of transition we will be able to celebrate Baptisms in the chapel, should requests be made for this time. Thanks for your patience as we continue to work in making our sacred worship space more beautiful and dignified.
Alternatively, just Text SUNDAY to (732)-889-7800 and follow the instructions to complete your offering. Should you require our assistance setting up your new account, please call the parish office at (732)-780-2666. You can also download the Connect Now Giving App for Android or iOS.Thank you for your continuous support!
