Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Saint Benedict, Abbot

Saint Benedict (ca480-542) is considered the father of monasticism in the Catholic church. Monasticism had a long lineage in Christian life going back to its founding in Egypt in the 300’s, which we know of from the writings of the desert fathers. The life was one of heroic virtue, with some monks practicing long fasts and other ascetic practices to the admiration of their followers. St. Benedict was of a more practical mind. He wanted to create a model of monastic life that would make it possible for ordinary men to follow every day. He also wanted to create a community with the abbot as the father guiding the monks in the daily practice of work and prayer.
St. Benedict summed up his ideals in the Rule of St Benedict which became one of the foundation documents of Western Christianity. In its 73 chapters, it lays out how an individual monk may live each day with his mind on Christ as he works and prays. The Rule also covers the duties of the abbot running the monastery as a father, leading the community to live in harmony with God and one another. This would be the basis on which centuries of monastic life would flourish and give to Western Christianity a model of stability on which Western culture could grow. Saint Benedict is the patron saint of European civilization and of students. His feast day is July 11th.

Elizabeth of Portugal, Wife, Mother and Religious, 1271-1336
The daughter of Peter III, King of Aragon, Elizabeth was named for her great-aunt, Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. She was destined for a throne from birth, but her early upbringing taught her humility and a strong sense of charity. At the age of twelve, Elizabeth was married to Denis, King of Portugal. Denis was a good ruler, but a less-than-ideal husband. While he allowed Elizabeth complete freedom to carry out her charitable work and her devotion, he didn’t feel obliged to emulate her. Elizabeth rose early each morning to pray and had other regular devotions in the afternoon and evening. Like her namesake, Elizabeth felt called upon to take care of those less fortunate than herself. She built hospitals and founded orphanages, and- Read More HERE.

Why Now?
BECAUSE THE CHURCH NEEDS HEALING AND THE WORLD NEEDS THE CHURCH.
Scandal, division, disease, doubt. The Church has withstood each of these throughout our very human history. But today we confront all of them, all at once. Our response in this moment is pivotal.
In the midst of these roaring waves, Jesus is present, reminding us that he is more powerful than the storm. He desires to heal, renew, and unify the Church and the world.
We are forming a Eucharistic Revival team here at our parish. We have an exciting year ahead leading up the to the National Eucharistic Congress! Do you feel the calling toward it? Sign up today HERE.

My Dear Parishioners:
Today we celebrate the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. By inviting us to come to him and take up his yoke, we in turn become the revelation of God to the world. We usually think of the difficult yoke we carry with Jesus in terms of suffering and dying to self, and surely that is one part of it. But this gospel suggests another aspect of the yoke ourselves being a revelation of God to the world which is perhaps even more difficult. In order to take up faithfully this mission to reveal God, we must hand our lives over to Jesus such that the risen One can dwell within us. This means, too, that all our actions must conform to how Jesus himself might have lived. We must be constantly open to the revelation Jesus makes to us, be open to the many ways Jesus comes to us. Only in this way can we be a revelation of God to others. The “rest” Jesus offers, then, really carries great demand to share in Jesus’ mission to make known the Father.
It was great to have Father Victor with us for a few days. We try to coordinate visits so that he can continue his service to this community and enjoy the friends who have been part of his life and ministry these past years. May God continue to grant him good health. Thank you Father Victor.
Next weekend we will welcome at the 12:00 Noon Mass the children and their families who are participating in the July Virtual Module of our Summer Intensive Religious Education Program. There will be an orientation presentation following the mass. Please pray for these families and their catechists who teach them about our Roman Catholic Faith. other use in accord with the guidelines provided by the safe environment program. Thank you for your cooperation.
Work continues on end of the Catechetical and Fiscal Years. Reports are being prepared. Projects are being completed. RE and Faith Formation opportunities are being prepared. Evaluations of current programming have concluded. Adjustments based on feedback from stakeholders is being considered. The churchbuildinglightingreplacementprojectis underway. I anticipate the fixtures beginning to be replaced in August 2023. This project is being partially funded by our Faith To Move Mountains Rebate. It is expected that the top and middle rows of hanging fixtures will be replaced first, then the perimeter, then the sanctuary. Thank you for your support, patience and cooperation throughout this process. It is anticipated that the organ speakers will be installed throughout the nave of the church beginning late August. This will distribute the sound more efficiently throughout the space and organize the sounds by groupings. More to come on all of this and more in the months to come.
We continue to make slow, steady progress to meet our 2023 Annual Catholic Appeal goal. It is the responsibility of each parish family to participate appropriately in this annual appeal. Recently, several parishioners mentioned that they had made a gift to the 2023 ACA but would make a second gift to help us. I thanked them and asked them not to do this. They did their part and we are grateful. Others must also do their part in order for our parish to support our bishop and the ministries and works that come from the Diocese of Trenton. May each of us prayerfully reflect on how we might support this effort. Together we can make this happen. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday! Peace.

• Look for the box on the Narthex for these donations.
• Full sized bars of soap in their original pack aging only please.
• Instructions to crochet a sack are HERE
S.A.C.K. (Supporting A Community with Kindness) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization where people from all over the world knit/crochet sacks and then donate them (with a bar of soap in each one) to homeless shelters, food pantries, veteran clinics, social service agencies and relief efforts. Since S.A.C.K. was founded in 2017, over 140,000 soap sacks have been donated globally! The response to these soap sacks are overwhelmingly positive especially since people cannot purchase toiletry items such as soap with government subsidies such as food stamps. The mission of S.A.C.K. is to spread kindness, one sack at a time. Our soap sack donations help to send a message of dignity, hope, love, compassion and health…..emotions that can restore a person, both physically and emotionally. Small actions make a huge difference! For more information about S.A.C.K., please check out our Website: www.soapsacks.com

The Breath of the Mystics is an inspiring study of mystical prayer based on the teachings of Eastern Christian Mystics and major contemporary theologians. Fr. George Maloney SJ connects our current revival of contemplative prayer with our Christian roots that go back to the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the 3rd-5th centuries, once Christianity became the “state religion.” It feels good connecting with these Christian ancestors that inspired Thomas Merton, Thomas Keating, and their contemporaries. Led by Jerry Washko. Donation: $175
