Question for Adults: How would you describe “the weeds” which have polluted your own faith, or the faith of people whom you know.
The Sanctuary Lamp this week is burning for:
Church: Grace Nathanson
Requested by Nathanson Family
Consider donating the sanctuary lamp that burns in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church or Chapel in honor of a living or deceased loved one. One intention is accepted per week (Sunday - Saturday) for the Lamp. The suggested donation is $25. RequestonlineHERE.

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

SAINTS JOACHIM AND ANNE
Memorial July 26
Andrew J. Macirowski - Pastoral Coordinator for Worship & Music / Principal OrganistWorship@stmaryscoltsneck.org
Music@stmaryscoltsneck.org
In the Scriptures, Matthew and Luke furnish a legal family history of Jesus, tracing ancestry to show that Jesus is the culmination of great promises, tracing his lineage through the throne of David, etc.. However, much of Mary’s history is glanced over except for her encounter with her cousin Elizabeth: we also know nothing factual about her parents them except that they existed. Even the names “Joachim” and “Anne” come from a legendary source written more than a century after Jesus died.
The heroism and holiness of these people however, is inferred from the whole family atmosphere around Mary in the Scriptures. Whether we rely on the legends about Mary’s childhood or make guesses from the information in the Bible, we see in her a fulfillment of many generations of prayerful persons, herself steeped in the religious traditions of her people.

The strong character of Mary in making decisions, her continuous practice of prayer, her devotion to the laws of her faith, her steadiness at moments of crisis, and her devotion to her relatives all indicate a close-knit, loving family that looked forward to the next generation even while retaining the best of the past.
Saints Joachim and Anne are the patrons of grandparents. As such, this Sunday (the fourth Sunday in July - closest to the memorial) has been designated as the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly by Pope Francis - a day to honor the aged among us as gifts to the Church and to our greater society.
Saint Anne is the patroness of women in labor and patroness of the nation of Canada.

Bridget (called Birgitta in Sweden) was born the fifth child of Birgir Persson, the governor of Upland, and Ingeborg, daughter of another provincial governor. From this high born position, she seemed destined to play some role in the temporal affairs of Sweden. While she did influence worldly matters, her mission was not limited to Sweden, but, rather, her voice was heard around the Christian world. The first of the many visions she was to have throughout her life came to Bridget at the age of seven, when she saw herself being crowned by Our Lady. At ten, she pictured Christ on the cross telling her that he was made to suffer by those who spurned his love for them. When she was thirteen years old- Read More HERE.

Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., is again inviting parishioners in the Diocese of Trenton to support the second annual collection for the Retired, Elderly and Infirm Priests Fund scheduled for Masses July 22 and 23. The collection is part of the diocesan observance of World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly established three years ago by Pope Francis to be held on or near the Feast of Jesus’ own grandparents, Saints Joachim and Anne. The collection, which will be taken in all Catholic churches across Burlington, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties, will be used to help fund the needs of the retired and elderly priests of the Diocese whose numbers have now reached 85.

We will have a collection box for this appeal at the masses on July 22 & 23. Please be generous.
If you want to make a donation online click HERE.
Quo vadis for July 23. . .
MyDearParishioners:
Today we celebrate the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. The impulse of the first parable is to pull the weeds. The impulse during our whole Christian living is be impatient with ourselves as we grow in our discipleship. Part of living the paschal mystery is to be patient with ourselves, especially when we have failed. The forgiveness and patience of God assure us that God permits repentance (see first reading) and extends forgiveness. Even our mistakes are ways that we have “ears…to hear” and learn better the ways of God. God’s final judgment comes at the “end of the age” when, hopefully, all of us have lived the ways of patience and faithfulness and have bornefruit.
Congratulations toourFaithFormationTeam and all those who have assisted her with the Virtual Summer Intensive Religious Education Module for grades 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Theprogramcontinuesthiscomingweekand will conclude Friday. It is very important that the Church strive to be at the center of people’s lives. None of this would be possible without your commitment of Stewardship. The Time, Talent and Treasure that many of you share enables us to continue to build upon the wonderful foundation in parish life that we have received. The parish needs to be a community where we can all come together and celebrate our diversity and uniqueness while together we are the Body of Christ at this time in this place. We have another module scheduled for August 2023. This module will be in person hosted on campus. During these hours when the children are present there will be restricted access in the buildings.Pleaseobserveallpostedplacards.
Our Parish Pastoral Council has been busy articulating some of the needs that exist and how we might address them. We will once again host the Advent Pancake Breakfast this December; conversations are underway to restore coffee and donuts periodically throughout the year; A Ministry for All Liturgical Ministries is important as we continue to provide the very best for our parishioners; Mass in the Grass opportunities to meet people where they are living; the formation/establishmentofanadvisorygroup for Faith Formation, Religious Education & Service. All of these are part of our vision to build on the foundation we have received, refine it for our needs today, and provide for thefuturevitalityofourparishcommunity.
We continue to make progress toward our 2023 Annual Catholic Appeal goal. As we continue to make slow steady progress it is important to note that we continue to expand the number of participating families. This is an important part of being a bona fide member of our parish and the church. THANKYOU.
I hope that the summer months offer each one of you an opportunity for some rest and re-creation. Take some time to be outdoors and enjoy the beauty of our Garden State. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace.
FatherJeff
