Aloysius was the oldest son and heir of the Marquis Ferrante of Castiglione who was in the service of Philip II of Spain. His father wished to see Aloysius become a military officer, but Aloysius had another idea in mind.

At about the age of seven, Aloysius had a spiritual awakening and began his day with regular prayers, including the Office of Mary and the Psalms. At nine, he was sent to Florence to be educated. By the time he was eleven, Aloysius was teaching the catechism to poor children and fasting three days a week as well as practicing other austerities.

A Message to Our Families

This week, we look forward to our August Summer Intensive on our campus! As we welcome the children for fun, faith and learning over the next two weeks, it’s a good time to recap our virtual program in July. Please enjoy some photos!

We were blessed to have over 60 attendees join us last Sunday for mass and a reception as we celebrated World Day for Grandparents & the Elderly! Many thanks to our speakers, parishioners Mrs. Marta Gutierrez and Mr. Roger Zurro, for sharing what it means to pass on the Catholic faith to their grandchildren. It was a beautiful day of community and faith! Stay tuned for event photos in next week’s bulletin!

Liturgy of the Word Dismissal

This is the practice of having children, ages 4-12, leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word (readings) and gather in the chapel to engage in the Liturgy of the Word at a level more appropriate to the children’s understanding.

Photos for our Parish Photo Directory will be taken this Fall, and we are in need volunteers to help facilitate scheduling appointments after Mass! Sign up for any Saturday evening or Sunday mass from August 30 through September 28. Also, remember to save the date! Photos will be taken by appointment as follows: 10/1-3: 2PM-8:30PM 10/4: 10AM-4PM 10/6-7: 2PM-8:30PM

Children in the July RE Summer Intensive were blessed to have Father Mike join the virtual session to talk about Holy Orders, as they learned about a new Sacrament each day!

Why Become a Hospice Volunteer?

Thinking of Becoming Catholic?

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the Church's process of welcoming newcomers into full communion with the Catholic Church. As you enter the Church, the parish community and the OCIA Program will walk with you on your journey of faith.

Click here for more information or email PastoralCare-OCIA@stmaryscoltsneck.org

The simplest gifts are often the most profound. If you’ve got time, empathy, and compassion, you have the ability to support those nearing end of life. If you have been searching for meaningful ways to spend your time, we invite you to explore the role of hospice volunteer with VNA Health Group.

Companionship visits in patient’s homes or facilities in Monmouth or Middlesex Counties, administrative projects, or comforting phone calls from our Neptune office, are just some of the ways in which our volunteers support patients and their families. A Specialized 16-hour Training will be provided by members of the VNA Hospice Team, over the course of 3 weeks.

My Dear Parishioners:

Quo vadis...

Today we celebrate the Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. If most of us take some time to think about things, we would have to admit that the pressures of our everyday living tend to be our main focus. We are all concerned about calendars and schedules, bills and getting ahead, sickness and health. Our lives tend to be so busy that our immediate goal is to get through another day. What would happen if we would truly take some time to think about what possesses us? It takes conscious effort to reverse the question and ask, To whom do our possessions belong? To whom do webelong? In some sense these are questions about priorities and putting God truly at the center of our lives. The answers must be more than an intellectual commitment to grow in our relationship with God and have God as our center. We must stop building larger storage barns and begin changing the way we live so that our priorities are evident. Practically speaking, this probably means settling for fewer possessions. But with God at the center, we really gain everything-eternal life.

Many thanks to all those who participated in the Grandparents Day Intergenerational session. Thanks to Julia Cullen and those volunteers who assisted in offering the hospitality. This weekend we welcome representatives of the Jersey Shore Conference of Alumni from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend for Mass and a convivial for incoming freshman (class of 2026!) and their parents. Parishioners Mike and Maureen Staub coordinate this important opportunity for these young people and their families.

As we continue our journey through the

summer months, make sure to take time for the Lord. Going to mass, whether here or while on vacation, is a big part of recreation during the summer months. It is also good to experience how other Roman Catholic Christians celebrate the Sacred Liturgy. Some of our parishioners have recently commented to me how much they appreciate how our parishioners pray together when we gather for the celebration of the mass. It is true. Our congregation prays in unison and with a nice cadence that encourages others to join together. There is an ancient maxim from Prosper of Aquitaine: Lex Orand Legem Credendi Constituit; that is, The Law of Prayer Constitutes the Law of Belief…or… The Way in Which We Pray shows forth what we Believe. Thank you for being such good witnesses to the presence of Christ in our midst during our celebration of Eucharist.

Congratulations to all of our parishioners who have participated in the 2025 Annual Catholic Appeal. We have reached our minimum goal. Whatever paid gifts and pledges that are now made will be 100% returned to the parish in support of our on going multi project to upgrade all lighting to LED fixtures. This saves and conserves energy and decreases regular maintenances. THANK YOU!

We expect work to begin in the church this week or next. It will be a bit messy, but we will try to minimize the inconvenience as we prepare the building for a new baptismal font, equipment and flooring. Thank you for your cooperation.

Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace. Father Jeff
