Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, 1030-1079
Stanislaus was the only child of noble family from a town near Cracow, Poland. Childless for many years of marriage, his parents’ prayers were answered with his birth. In thanksgiving, they dedicated his life to God.
Stanislaus was educated in Gnesen and in Paris and was ordained by Bishop Lambert Zula of Cracow who gave him a canonry and later appointed him his archdeacon and preacher. The young priest soon became known for his preaching and he was able to bring about a reformation of the morals of the people of Cracow including many clergy.

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Question for Children: Jesus appeared to the disciples even though they were afraid and locked in the closed room. How can you show Jesus to another person this week by how you act?
Question for Youth: Thomas didn’t believe because he hadn’t seen Jesus with his own eyes. How hard is it for you to believe in God without being able to see God? How do you see God in the words and actions of others?
Question for Adults: Jesus said: "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Give one example of how you will show your belief in Jesus this week - how you are being sent forth.

Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday after Easter, the Octave Day of Easter. It is originally based on the Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy of Jesus that Saint Faustina Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament reported as part of her encounter with Christ, and is associated with special promises from Jesus and indulgences issued by the Church.
The devotion was actively promoted by Pope Saint John Paul II. On April 30, 2000, Sister Faustina was canonized and the Sunday after Easter was declared as Divine Mercy Sunday.
In the years since, the devotion has grown, with many Catholics reciting the Divine Mercy Chaplet as part of their prayers, especially during adoration or in preparation for or after the sacrament of penance and reconciliation.
A growing number of churches hold special services on this day. Votive Masses, penance and reconciliation services, Eucharistic adoration, concerts, liturgy of the hours with the people, etc.
A Plenary Indulgence may also be obtained by:
Going to confession, attending Mass and partaking in Holy Communion, to pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, while:
• In any church or chapel take part in the prayers and devotions in honor of the Divine Mercy.
• In the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, say an Our
• Father and Creed.
...in both cases, adding a devout prayer to the Merciful Lord.
As we continue onward though our Easter experience, let us remember the Mercy of Jesus. May the peace of Christ be with all.
The Catholic Church requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following:
The obligation, the privilege really, of receiving the Eucharist at least once a year --- often called “Easter duty” for those in the state of grace should still be fulfilled during the period from the First Sunday of Lent, March 9, 2025 to Trinity Sunday, June 15, 2025. However, the Church’s law does permit this precept to be fulfilled at another time during the year when there is a just cause.
We are in need of more facilitators and invite all interested in learning more about joining this wonderful ministry.
Please join us on 18 May 2025 beginning at the 10am mass and following in the Spiritual Center. Please RSVP HERE to this casual question and answer session. Learn firsthand from facilitators what this ministry is all about and how to minister to children, ages 4-12, during the Liturgy of the Word. Where children engage at a level more appropriate to their understanding.

When a pope dies or resigns, the governance of the Catholic Church passes to the College of Cardinals. Cardinals are bishops and Vatican officials from all over the world, personally chosen by the pope, recognizable by their distinctive red vestments. Following a vacancy in the papacy, the cardinals hold a series of meetings at the Vatican called general congregations. They discuss the needs and the challenges facing the Catholic Church globally. They will also prepare for the upcoming papal election, called a conclave. Decisions that only the pope can make, such as appointing a bishop or convening the Synod of Bishops, must wait till after the election. In the past, they made arrangements for the funeral and burial of the deceased pope. Four rounds of balloting are taken every day until a candidate receives two-thirds of the vote. In the past, 15 to 20 days after a papal vacancy, the cardinals gathered in St. Peter's Basilica for a Mass invoking the guidance of the Holy Spirit in electing a new pope. Only cardinals under the age of 80 are eligible to vote in a conclave. They are known as the cardinal electors.
For the conclave itself, the cardinal electors process to the Sistine Chapel and take an oath of absolute secrecy before sealing the doors. The cardinals vote by secret ballot, processing one by one up to Michelangelo's fresco of the Last Judgment, saying a prayer and dropping the twice-folded ballot in a large chalice. Four rounds of balloting are taken every day until a candidate receives two-thirds of the vote. The result of each ballot are counted aloud and recorded by three cardinals designated as recorders. If no one receives the necessary two-thirds of the vote, the ballots are burned in a stove near the chapel with a mixture of chemicals to produce black smoke. When a cardinal receives the necessary two-thirds vote, the dean of the College of Cardinals asks him if he accepts his election. If he accepts, he chooses a papal name and is dressed in papal vestments before processing out to the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica. The ballots of the final round are burned with chemicals producing white smoke to signal to the world the election of a new pope The senior cardinal deacon, currently French Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, announces from the balcony of St. Peter's "Habemus Papam" ("We have a pope") before the new pope processes out and imparts his blessing on the city of Rome and the entire world. My Dear Parishioners:
Today we celebrate the Second Sunday of Easter. Traditionally this Sunday was known as “Low Sunday” thus ending the Easter Octave (8 Days). More recently under the pontificate of the late Pope John Paul II this Sunday has become known as “Divine Mercy Sunday” honoring the polish nun Maria Faustina who was recently honored with formal canonization and the title of “Saint” in the universal church. Most of us won’t cure anyone when our shadow falls upon them. But this doesn’t mean that we don’t continue the works of Jesus that lead others to believing. Any good we do for others is overshadowing them with the goodness of Jesus. Any good we do brings this same new, resurrected life to others. We are empowered to do so through the Holy Spirit. All we need do is surrender to God’s action within us. We have these fifty days of Easter to come to greater belief. We have our whole lifetime to manifest the good works of our belief.
We continue to focus our prayer on the repose of the soul of His Holiness Pope Francis. This is a time of prayerful reflection on the life and ministry of Jorge Bergoglio and the Apostolic Service of Pope Francis. Equally important is a time of prayerful reflection on the Petrine Ministry exercised by the Bishop of Rome who is the Pope. As Roman Catholics we believe fervently that the Holy Spirit is hovering over us during this period of prayerful deliberation. Let’s try to remain above the noise that will be generated these coming days.
We continue to enjoy the radiant splendor of the Easter Celebration. What an awesome experience it has been for us. The Triduum continues to grow in attendance and the participation of so many added to the prayer and worship. Some have given freely of their time and talent so that we could not merely observe the triduum, but truly celebrate these rites in all their fullness. It is important that we increase those who help to prepare and celebrate these sacred rites. Remembering the liturgy is our response to God’s presence, we continue to learn and improve how and what we do during these most holy days. The Easter Season is a time when the Church celebrates the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist. We will celebrate First Communion and Confirmation in the fall. Continue to pray for our community
that God will guide us and strengthen us as we welcome new families and help them in forming their children in the faith of Jesus Christ. A special word of thanks to our parish staff and those volunteers who work regularly with them for providing us with a wonderfully enriching Lenten Season, Holy Week, Triduum and Easter Sunday. Many thanks for the home made goodies that were shared with us at the parish house for Easter. I appreciate the positive comments about how we are celebrating Easter. Welcome to all of those families participating in our Annual Easter Egg Hunt this weekend. Thanks to all those who work to promote and provide this opportunity for our parish families.
A recent article in the Monitor, our diocesan publication, highlighted mass attendance trends since the pandemic. Our parish numbers suggested a 22% increase in attendance since before the pandemic. While our weekly attendance varies greatly week to week, I think the following are considerations to support this increase: the COVID lockdown was a wake up call…we often take our access to receiving the Eucharist fore granted; the number of homes sold in 07722 and new families moving into our community; and the strong focus on the Eucharist as the center of Catholic Life, especially for our RE students and those who are required to write homily summaries twice per month. I am greatful to all of you for all that you do and your prayerfulness.
Many thanks to all who have participated in the Holy Thursday Annual Collection for the Poor & Needy. These funds provide resources for our parish community to respond to many requests for assistance. Additional funds come from the weekly Sunday Stewardship Offerings something that the parish financial council has worked very hard to include in our annual budget. Also, the 2025 Easter Collection results will be published for your review in a few weeks. Thank you to all those parish families who have participated. Those who have not yet participated should do so in the coming weeks. Thank you for your continued sacrificial sharing. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Sunday. Peace.
