Cyril of Jerusalem, Bishop and Doctor, c. 315-386
Cyril is thought to have been the son of Christian parents and, if not born in Jerusalem, he certainly was raised there. He received an excellent education from his parents which helped to prepare him for his coming trials.
Ordained by St. Maximus, the bishop of Jerusalem, one of Cyril’s first duties was to instruct the catechumens as they prepared for the reception of the sacraments at the Easter vigil (what we call the period of Purification and Enlightenment) and during the Easter season after the sacraments have been received (Mystagogy). Much of what we know about the way the catechumens were prepared for baptism in the early Church has been gleaned from the writings of Cyril, and his work has been instrumental in developing the Rite of Christian Initiation as it is used today Read More HERE
Mass intentions for all occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, sickness, etc.) for the deceased or living can be requested online HERE Please scroll down to the preferred date and time, whether daily Mass or weekend Mass. Intentions are available from the next couple of weeks until December 2025. The stipend per mass intention is $10
Consider requesting a Sanctuary Lamp in memory of a deceased person or in honor of a living individual. Sanctuary lamps burn permanently in the Church and Chapel. Requests can be made for a week, starting Sunday and ending the following Saturday. The stipend per sanctuary lamp is $25. Requests can be made online HERE
Mass intentions and sanctuary lamps can also be requested in person at the Parish office during business hours.

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

The Commemoration of the Lord’s Triumphal Entry in Jerusalem, commonly known as Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday recounts Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, his trial and crucifixion. We carry palm branches as a remembrance of people doing the same when Jesus rode into Jerusalem. Palms in ancient times, specifically date palms in the Holy Land, are majestic trees, growing anywhere from 15 to 50 feet tall, their height and dense branches granting them a symbol that had become synonymous with royalty.
Palm fronds have been blessed and distributed on this day since about the 9th century. Some follow the custom of making a cross out of palms to be displayed in the home throughout Holy Week and the Easter Season. As the palms are blessed, they cannot be thrown away; they must be buried or burned. It is customary for churches to collect palms from the previous year and use them in the creation ofAshes forAsh Wednesday, or to be burned in the Easter Fire.
The Catholic Church requires of us as baptized Catholics to observe the following:
The obligation, the privilege really, of receiving the Eucharist at least once a year often called “Easter duty” --- for those in the state of grace should still be fulfilled during the period from the First Sunday of Lent, March 9, 2025 to Trinity Sunday, June 15, 2025. However, the Church’s law does permit this precept to be fulfilled at another time during the year when there is a just cause.
This is the practice of having children, ages 4-12, leave the Sunday assembly during the Liturgy of the Word (readings) and gather in the chapel to engage in the Liturgy of the Word at a level more appropriate to the children’s understanding.

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Strengthen Your Union Through the Church
Did you know that in the eyes of the Catholic Church, a marriage is a sacrament only when it's celebrated before God? If you are an engaged couple or have been married civilly but haven’t yet had your marriage validated in the Church, we invite you to sanctify your union before God in the Church.
It’s also important to remember that to serve as godparents for Baptism or Confirmation, the Church asks that you be married sacramentally. Many don’t realize this until the moment they are asked to be sponsors, but we’re here to help you take that next step.
Whether you’re planning to marry or seeking to deepen your current relationship with God, we’d love to walk with you on your journey. The Church is here for you, and we want to help you make your marriage all that God intended it to be.
Check our website for or information on weddings and convalidations or contact the parish office (732)780-2666

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults - is the process youth and adults go through to become fully initiated into the Catholic church. Every year, tens of thousands of people come into the Catholic Church through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults.
OCIA is a formation process for the Catechumenate (the unbaptized) and candidate (those with Christian baptism) alike. It requires discernment, prayer, and an encounter with the person of Jesus Christ.
The catechumenate is the responsibility of every member of the parish. The parish exists to make disciples. Formation is handed down to each of us by the faithful who have come before us. We are all members of the Body of Christ. We are called to accompany one another on the journey. The parish receives, inquirers accept, the Church welcomes.
“There’s the whole idea that it’s not just ‘me and Jesus’; it’s ‘we and Jesus,’” he said. “And I think that ‘we’ part is crucial to staying committed to the faith and to growing.” Kasey Devine, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Edina, Minnesota.

My Dear Parishioners: This weekend we celebrate Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion and Death. For most of us Holy Week unfolds like many other weeks; we still contend with work, school, preparing meals, doing laundry, cranky folks, the usual triumphs and set backs. These readings for Palm Sunday invite us to make this an extra-ordinary week a week that concentrates in a few days the ultimate meaning of our whole lives. We must slow ourselves down and make choices so that this week doesn’t go by without our taking the time to enter into its meaning. We celebrate in the liturgies what we live every day all the dying to self that characterizes truly faithful disciples of Jesus. We are invited to move beyond Simon Peter’s empty “Lord, I am prepared…to die with you” to making this dying the very heart of our living.
Out Lenten Penance and Reconciliation was very well attended. I am grateful to the priests who generously come to serve you in being reconciled. Thanks to our staff members for keeping it very organized, prayerful and efficient. It is a wonderful way for us to witness to one another and our children of how important God’s Mercy is for us and in turn how important it is for us to be ambassadors of reconciliation. This coming Saturday is the Annual Spring clean up of our campus grounds. Consider signing up to help us prepare the campus for the coming solemnities. Thank you for your stewardship of time.
As the Season of Lent 2025 draws to a close, let us keep the momentum by continuing our personal prayer, encountering Christ in the rich sacramental life of the Church, and by supporting one another in preparing our community to welcome new members in our gathering for communal prayer. There is room enough for everyone to get involved and share in the responsibility for providing opportunities for each of us to encounter the sacred. Make your participation in these Sacred Rites a priority this week. Plan your travel, baking, cooking, cleaning, shopping in advance so that you might join with us in prayer as we meditate on these central mysteries of our faith. The Chrism Mass will be celebrated at Saint Robert Bellarmine Parish, Monday, 14 April at 7:30pm. During this Mass the priests of the diocese renew their commitment of service and His Excellency, the Most Reverend Bishop Blesses the Oils of Catechumens and the Sick; Consecrates the Sacred Chrism. All are welcome to come and be part of this ancient tradition of our Church. Preparation for the upcoming services have required our staff and volunteers to prepare countless worship
aids to encourage our full, conscious and active participation in the liturgy. Please, please assist us in keeping our church buildings in order by tidying up after the masses: returning the kneelers to the upright position and whatever else might need to be done. Also, last person out please make sure that the interior and exterior doors are closed. I continue to notice the increased participation in our parish food collection for the poor and needy. You may bring these items at your convenience. The receptacle is located in the gathering area. Or, like myself, you may schedule your support of the poor and needy online as you wish… weekly, monthly, yearly. Our Holy Thursday Collection is completely directed for support of the poor and needy. This is the one-time collection each year from our parishioners for charitable appeals. The difference between what is collected and what is needed is taken monthly from our Sunday Stewardship Offering. Thank you for your generous care of the poor and needy in our midst.
A quad-fold mailer has been sent to each of our registered households for your convenience and reference. Please put it in a conspicuous location within your household and refer to it. You have received a special envelope for the Solemnity of Easter as online givers are sent a copy of the envelope amounts to guide them in discerning a gift to our parish for the Solemnity of Easter. Please use that envelope to make your gift to our parish for this Solemnity to go to your online giving account. I suspect we may have a few visitors next weekend for our celebrations of Eucharist. Please be welcoming and hospitable to all of our guests. Encourage them to participate by your example. Lead them by your own decorum about proper dress and restraining from excessive talking during the mass. Plan to arrive at mass EARLIER THAN USUAL in order to find a parking spot without unnecessary rushing around and interrupting those who have already gathered for prayer by arriving after the mass has begun. All of these things help us to put our best forward. You are the Church. You are the greatest asset of our community. Continue to distinguish yourself as a community of prayer and service by your own example.
His Excellency, The Most Reverend Bishop of Trenton will be the Principal Celebrant and Homilist at the 12 Noon Mass Easter Sunday. Additionally, Bishop O’Connell will observe his 70th Birthday on Monday, 21 April. Take a moment to greet him and wish him a “Happy Birthday”. Have a great week. Let us remember one another in prayer. Happy Palm Sunday. Peace! Father Jeff
