Well practiced management methods have little currency in an unfamiliar world full of unprecedented challenge.

Initially, many business leaders find this strangely disorienting. But vulnerability is critical to the learning process. We remove leaders from their everyday environment. We confront them with extraordinary situations. And we encourage them to engage their innovative, problem-solving powers.

It’s intellectually stretching, intensely rewarding and hugely instructive.

People often refer to the experience as a ‘revelation’; and its relevance certainly isn’t lost on senior executives. The lessons learnt on the West End stage, in the aircraft cockpit and in the horse-whispering paddock can be applied in the boardroom, at the negotiating table, on the factory floor and in the dealing room… For possibly the first time, leaders can experiment with different management approaches and discover more about their own personal strengths and weaknesses. They can look into the mirror and reflect on their own management style and how it affects other people.

For many this is the start of a journey from an often ego-centric, controlling approach to management to a more inclusive, inventive, team-empowering mindset.
