FOUNDATION - TEAM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME The development of a team is not a quick fix, “a one shot event will sort it” type process. Once the team has embarked on the journey there will be many opportunities to veer away from the course or turn back into safer waters. This development programme draws upon a number of areas, including experience both as coach and leader of teams, as well as working and creating Breakthrough Team Performance (with thinking from Frank Tijou and others in the early 90s). This thinking is combined with extracts from the more recent work exploring team dsyfunctions from Patrick Lencioni. Applying theory and exercises from all these areas, the core themes in developing high performance teams focus around creating a productive, trusting environment which is rich with challenge and constructive conflict. Here, where commitment is absolute and accountability visible, overall activity leads to excellence in results. … However… developing a team first requires the team to decide they are, or want to be, a team, rather than a multidisciplinary group, that comes together from time to time.
