Three teachers take 118 years of teaching experience into retirement %\ .(,7+ .1(33 $VVRFLDWH (GLWRU Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation honored three of its longtime staff members during the school board meeting held Wednesday, Feb. 17. Each has announced her retirement following this school year. Between the three of them, they have 118 years of teaching experience, which amazingly were all spent at Tippecanoe Valley. Sixth-grade science teacher Jane Hunn is putting aside her beakers after 43 total years in education. Hunn began teaching seventh and eighth grade science at Akron Junior High School. When the middle school moved to its

current location, she changed to only eighth-grade science. In 2012 she had the opportunity to switch to sixth-grade science, which she has taught ever since. “I have had many supportive colleagues and administrators,” said Hunn. “The support staff make life more pleasant. The students I have had throughout my career have brought joy to my life. I will miss the daily interaction with students with the challenges
and rewards that brings.” On her future plans, Hunn said, “I have said in the past that I would not retire until I know what I was retiring to, but here I am with no premade plans. I will do service projects in the community. Travel to ride bikes with my husband is very likely.” Linda Studebaker also is retiring after 43 1/2 years of teaching. “I began my teaching career at Akron Elementary as
a third-grade teacher in January of 1978, yes, during the ‘Blizzard of ‘78,’” she recalled. “It was quite a snowy introduction to teaching. I was present for only nine school days and was paid three times. Teaching was great! After five years in third grade I was promoted to sixth grade. It was fun to teach in the old Akron High School building my parents had attended. At the end of my 17th year of teaching, Tippecanoe Valley Middle School opened. With hammers and screwdrivers, we moved to Tippecanoe Valley Middle School where I have spent the last 25 years teaching sixth grade math. “As I leave in May, I will miss the interactions with middle school students, these Continued on page 3
