today’s bedroom trends are simple and crisp

If you are looking to give your bedroom an upgrade this year, designers say less is more. The top bedroom trends will not only give you a good night’s sleep, but will help you wake up rested, refreshed, and ready to start the day with intention. This year, there is a greater focus on natural colors and calming elements, installing smart technologies and other appliances into your in-home oasis, as well as curated collections and stylish storage solutions to help you declutter and have the space you need to live and grow!

NATURE’S OWN

Biophilia is not only an interior design trend for 2022, but for many it is also a way of life. Officially defined as “the innate human instinct to connect with nature and other living things,” biophilia is a fancy term for bringing the outside in. Generally, this is done by maximizing natural light, including foliage and nature inspired artwork and using natural materials in rooms to promote wellness, rest and productivity.

“The biggest trend in bedroom color right now is echoing colors that are found in nature,” said Kelly Avila of Yourspace Design. “Grey is out, beige is back and shades of green, blue and brown are taking center stage along with earthy tones like rust, blush and terra cotta. Color is big in bedrooms right now. I’m not seeing a lot of white walls.”

Color is big, but it tends to be more neutral with little splashes here and there. However, when it comes to bedroom décor, Avila says texture is everything. Monochromatic bedrooms that feature the same color wall paint, bedding and finishes are utilizing texture in walls with paneling and other wood detailing, headboards, accent chairs and benches are covered in soft luxurious materials while the wall hangings are more organic and textile.

“The idea is that opening your bedroom door should envelope you in dramatic color that both relaxes, warms you and leaves you feeling cozy,” she said. “It’s a great time to do a bedroom remodel.”

TECH TIPS

Chris Doncaster with Doncaster Flooring and Design says today’s bedroom is natural, minimalist, clean and crisp. The simpler the better whether that is your color scheme or the technology you install. While there is an uptick in the number of kitchenettes, she is installing in master suites that feature a coffee maker and refrigerator, by and large homeowners are forgoing some of the must haves that were big only a few years ago. She sees homeowners opt out of carpets in favor of vinyl planking or hardwood floors and are using decorative baskets to help store items out of the way. Even furnishings such as dressers and chests are going by the wayside in favor of larger walk-in closets and wall-mounted/mirror-mounted TVs.

“This generation is very tech savvy, and they are including sound and lighting elements that can all be controlled via Alexa,” she said. “You don’t have to give up fashion for function, but the idea is to keep everything simple.” n
